The most in-touch with reality golf channel on youtube. I was reading MGS's "beginner" club recommendations article the other day out of curiosity and they were leading with $400+ drivers, some Stealth HD irons (or GBB 2023 irons for $1500) and other absurd suggestions. Absolute madness in an era where the GBB Epic is performing head-to-head with the Paradym.
I'm a 6 hcp playing a cobbled together set of Titleist 755s, some Vokey SM5s, an Odyssey 2-ball Pro in excellent condition that was $45 on CPO, a 2022 Adams Tight Lies 5w that was $30 shipped new and an Epic Max I got for like $100 on Facebook. All in this was like $325 and is a more than respectable bag.
Anyway, the point is, you're seemingly the only one covering the used value market and talking specifically about resale which is the true cost of these purchases. Golf isn't expensive if you can offload things for the same price as you bought them. Thanks for keeping it real.

This is possibly the best beginner “build my bag” video I’ve seen. The current crop of popular UK golf tubers tend to follow a rather formulaic approach to the topics they create. Build my bag being one such example. Of course this is a mutually beneficial relationship with used golf club companies so it’s all good as a consumer. However, I must stress I find the SAS Golf channel to be more bespoke.
Anyway, as a mid to low handicapper, I still found this video fascinating (I am a learning and development specialist with nearly 30 year’s experience) and extremely well constructed. From a personal perspective I’m hoping you do more Simon notably for those looking to get into single figures 😉. Keep up the great work 👍🏻

The reason I love this channel is right here in this video, you don’t say ‘buy this’ you say ‘improve this’ ‘look at your technique’, ‘spend more time hitting balls’, here’s a few clubs that are good and cheap, and you actually play them….. can’t name another channel that does that, congrats on the channel getting big, but it’s your integrity that keeps you there.

My buddy who swings at 105 mph hit my extra 0211 (not my current gamer), 282 yards. Not bad for the $155 cdn that I paid new for that club, lol. It shamed his 915 teitlest until I got that club properly adjusted and regripped for him.

Sure did help as a beginner hacker.
Now, I rarely use it, but it will never leave my bag.

I play with a set of Ping G15, a Taylormade R15 Driver, Cobra Baffler 3+5 woods and an old 2ball putter. I'm not by any stretch a beginner, but I began with this set and I now shoot sub 90 pretty much all the time. You could piece this set for about £300 and I guarantee any beginner would love it.

Brother, I just picked up what appeared to be a never used Ping G25 driver.
I can't say enough just how big of bomber this club is.
PLayed a round the other day and I was crushing over 300 yard drives.
I picked up the G25 and paired it with an old ping Zing 2 putter.
      Just tremendous clubs.
      I can't say enough.

Just got into golf at 51. Found a Ben Hogan H40 cavity back iron set 3 thru pw with senior flex graphite shafts and golf pride grips. Guess they are an ok set. Also got an old Ping putter and an old Wilson titanium drive, old Mizuno 3 wood and an old Warrior 5 wood. All in a decent Izzo stand bag for 75 bucks. This was at a pawn shop

Good stuff. Might have just solved my next driver quest? Living about 1500km and another country away from the nearest golf shop, an updated all metal driver appeals as a replacement for my 9 or 10 yo Cobra. I don't need the potential stress of a "fragile" glued head.

I’ll say when I got my 3 wood a couple months ago i absolutely stunk hitting it. Every time I hit it low to the right. Now I’m fairly sure it’s further than my driver if I tee it right and off the deck I’m getting better and better contact. I have a cheap 7 wood too that I just love hitting too idk what it is just enjoy it.

How about some Adam's V4 irons set (and 4-6hybrids that are usually part of the set)? if you can find them, it's a real cheap set to fill out most of your bag until you improve and want to upgrade. Awesome GI forgiving clubs that's as good as anything in the same category today. That's the set I started out with and I keep them in a backup bag for buddies who want to occasionally golf but are not "in the game" atm.
I upgraded to the Adam's CB3 irons last season and regularly get 1.45 smash factor on them which is incredible...why spend thousands on new forged clubs that won't get me better efficiency? I liked them so much I bought a 2nd set of heads-only and I will be fitted an optimal shaft in those later this year when my swing is grooved in. I put a Mitsubishi 80 MMT graphite shaft in it and my buddy above hit this old club (7 iron) 196 yards and he was floored...about 25 yards farther than his 7 iron (182 carry if ur curios).

  • @JJ-ic6pn

    Nice selection.
For driver, I'd spend £80 on adjustable 10.5 (Cobra, TM R11) and £40 on a lesson to hit it straight.
225 in fairway is better than 250 in the cabbage.

wedges and putter are the most important clubs in the bag. beginners miss a lot of greens, and will have to chip, or hit shots from 50 yards in. and you putt on every hole

  • @kevinvassago

I have a Titleist TSR2 Driver, TS2 3FW, a combo set of T-350's and AP3's, & a 910 hybrid. I enjoy the new clubs, but can attest that just cuz something is new doesnt make it better. My TS2 3 FW is the best fairway wood I've ever built, period. The 910 models, imo, is one the best series Titleist has ever put out. How i see it is there are jumps in technology once a decade or so, and every model afterwards is just a variation of the same technology, which doesnt make it better, just different. You can get a TS2 FW wood and 910 Hybrid for $130 or less online, and theyre literally some of the best clubs ever made

    • @SASGolf
