at 0:38 >>> This car was nearly unbeatable on the track. It won the GT class of 12
Hours of Sebring in 1964, and that was just the beginning of this car’s
success. As its final act of racing, this Cobra set 25 records at the
Bonneville Salt Flats. So what happened to it after its racing days?
Slot car racing legend Jim Russell purchased the car in 1966 from Shelby
after finding it listed for sale in the paper. The purchase price was
in the $4,000-$5,000 range at that time. For one reason or another,
Russell listed the car for sale and well-known music producer Phil
Spector purchased the Cobra from him. Somewhere along the way between
these two owners, rear-exit exhaust and interior carpet were added to
make the Shelby feel less like a racing vehicle and more like a street
    vehicle.
It is after Phil Spector’s ownership that the trail goes cold. In the
1970s, the Cobra Daytona vanished without a trace. It was presumed
destroyed until it was found in a private storage unit in 2001 after the
owner, Donna O’Hara, committed suicide by lighting herself on fire.
That’s the dark part of this car’s history! After a legal battle between
O’Hara’s mother and a friend who was willed the storage unit, O’Hara’s
mother sold the car to Dr. Frederick A. Simeone, the owner responsible
for its current display in the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum.

There were 7 Daytonas, there's 5 here plus the Willmott one built by AC. The 6th Daytona by Shelby and from what I believe the only one built in the US is the one in the Simeone museum, which belonged to Phil Spector and was the one that achieved land speed records on the slat flats.

+david morris There were only 6 completed by Shelby. All 6 are in this footage with the original and only one built in Venice, CA being CSX2287, and is the one without a number. You can tell by the more rounded roofline where the others (built by an Italian coachbuilder in Modena, right down the road from Enzo) have a flatter roofline when viewed from the front.
The 7th Cobra coupe was a big block version begun by Peter Brock but never completed by Shelby and later sold as incomplete. It has since been finished and is being shown.

Sorry to disagree by CSX2287 is the unrestored one in the Simeone museum and it is the original first daytona.to quote Wikepedia
Chassis #CSX2287 was the very first prototype Cobra Daytona Coupe, and is the only coupe that was built entirely at the Shelby American race shop in Venice, California. It has an extensive race history, competing at Daytona, Sebring, Reims, Spa Francorchamps, Oulton Park TT, Le Mans and Tour de France. It was driven by Chris Amon, Dave MacDonald, Bob Holbert, Jo Schlesser, Phil Hill, Jochen Neerpasch, Innes Ireland, André Simon, Maurice Dupeyron, Bob Johnson and Tom Payne.
Chassis CSX2287 won the GT race at the 12 Hours of Sebring in March 1964 with MacDonald and Holbert behind the wheel. The race at Sebring was the first time that a Cobra Daytona Coupe won the GT III category in an FIA race. At Le Mans in June 1964, the car was finished in Viking Blue metallic very distinctive white painted front fenders. The drivers were Amon and Neerpasch. They led the GT class until the car was disqualified in the 10th hour for an illegal jump start due to battery and alternator failure.
This coupe ended its racing career by setting 25 USAC/FIA world records at the Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah, in November 1965, while driven by Craig Breedlove, Bobby Tatroe and Tom Greatorex during a Goodyear tire testing session.
All trace of CSX2287 was lost by the mid-1970s, with car historians and collectors fearing the car had been destroyed. In 2001 the car was rediscovered in a rental storage unit in California.[5] The owner Donna O'Hara had committed suicide by burning herself alive.[6] The car had remained undiscovered for almost 30 years. Due to its estimated worth of over $4,000,000 the car was part of an extensive legal battle between her mother who sold the car to a collector in Pennsylvania, and a friend of Ms. O'Hara who was the recipient in her will of the contents of the storage unit. An earlier owner of the car appears to have been music producer Phil Spector who had been known to drive it on the streets of Los Angeles.[7] Built for high-speed sprints, the cab became uncomfortably warm as the car engine heated up, among other problems. "It wasn't a street car; it was a race car", Shelby said. Still, Spector drove it on the streets, and legend is that Spector racked up so many speeding tickets, his lawyer advised him to get rid of the car before he lost his license. This car was featured in "The Monkees" episode, "The Monkees Race Again" (aka "Leave the Driving to Us"), originally aired on February 12, 1968.
CSX2287 is the only Daytona Coupe which has not been restored. It has been preserved and mechanically reconditioned. It is part of the permanent collection at the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum in Philadelphia, PA, USA.[8]
In January 2014, CSX2287 became the first vehicle added to the Historic Vehicle Association's National Historic Vehicle Registry. Concurrently it became the first automobile to be recorded under the United States Secretary of the Interior Standards for Heritage Documentation, kept on file in the Library of Congress.[9] In November 2014, CSX2287 won the International Historic Motoring Awards "Car of the Year", which is voted on by the public. In addition to being the first American car to win the award, the Cobra Daytona Coupe is also the first American car nominated for this award.[10]

@@john1703- Not so sir, they were all powered by a 289 c.i. V8 with 4 Weber downdraft carburetors. There was some talk about making an all aluminum 390 engine for one, but that was never done as Shelby was ordered by Ford to work solely on the GT40.

Great video if the Brit announcers did not yammer on through the whole thing! Shut up! This is an historic event. WHY RUIN IT? The the Daytonas do the talking! That is what I want to hear.
I was at the Shelby convention 3 weeks ago in the Poconos Pa surrounded by truly 100s of real Shelbys. It was awesome. But no real Daytonas were there. I would love to see all 6 Daytonas run. I am jealous I can't be at this show. It is on the wrong side of the pond for me.

at 0:38 >>> This car was nearly unbeatable on the track.
