- Why India will See More Heatwave Days in 2024 | Vantage with Palki Sharma
India is bracing for a long and grueling summer. The India Meteorological Department has issued a stark warning: several regions across the country can expect extended periods of scorching heatwaves this year. The IMD had said the country is set to experience extreme heat during the April to June period, with the central and western peninsular parts expected to face the worst impact. This coincides with the election season where over 900 million people will step out of their homes to vote. What will that look like? Is India unprepared for heatwaves? What can New Delhi do about them? Palki Sharma tells you.

Welcome to India😂

Covid: Population wave
Cold waves are like a small air Breeze in india.
High rise buildings and number of borewells, cutting down trees and lakes also being encroached have made our beautiful bangalore spoil. Feel very sad. Once it was a paradise.
Mainly deforestation. And heavy constructions
yes unfortunately namma bengaluru is no more beautiful and green
Garden city and orginal Bangalore made for each other. The best city 70's and 80's and even early 90's
Then larer gradually blore expanded like no one could have imagined.
Yet there is no change in spite of warning from nature. Still trees are cut for development(railway projects inside the city). New apartment projects at budigere roads are so overwhelming. How do these get approvals. Before a road is laid these builders come up with land n start construction 🤷
The main reason is heavy population.
When it is summer - no water to drink.
When it monsoon - floods everywhere.
When it is rainy season - water logs in the roads and power supply interrupts...
Well done, well designed country.
All seasons - potholes, trash and garbage, noise pollution, air pollution, water pollution, corruption, goodaism, pawn-chewing polluted politicians, and lazy entitled citizens.
Open defecation matters floating on waters!!😅😅😅😅😅
All design can fail infront of nature.
This year is especially hot due to El Nino

In India not the heat its humidity that kill u 😥
Well said.

India is in an endless consumer frenzy. Cars, high rise buildings, unbridled urbanisation. When will we think about the basic things of life, without which all the other assets are valueless? Vote for ecology and sustainable development, also known as simple living.

Well said but who listens , those who in power who are corrupt or those in business who are equally corrupt. Who really cares or talks about all this everyone is comfortably numb untill they are hit by the weather and suddenly everyone awakes but what do we now when people in power do not listen to their farmers who have been killing themselves.
These heat waves did not happen over night and it's time we do not look else where and blame others , some are genuinely doing something about it in all sincerity others not.
Now everyone has to deal with this the situation will turn bad over time how we have constructed our cities and how we conduct ourselves ,

I am like a climate scientist and I take the word of scientist 20 plus years ago, global over population has caused global over exploitation of natural resources that is causing massive deforestation. Your country is 1/3 of the area of the united states yet, your country has 1.2 billion humans that is fcking instane! if anything china and india could be the first countries to experiance mass famine due to over consumption of food and water thirst from massive droughts and heat waves.
Even in Tamil Nadu I noticed the unusually high temperature and humidity, usually this sets in at end of the April or in May, but this time its started very early, this going to be one hell of summer.
Actually dere is a solution which is doable all state govts shud select massive barren lands in their state and plant trees in quantities that they most cancel out heat wave

And the governments across every state as well as centre are least bothered to do anything to address the impending water shortage!
People themselves should be responsible before blaming the system.
They are doing many things, you just don’t read or visit
Government is not even taking single step in water conservation
Rainwater harvesting is one of the best methods. Leave some space for water to percolate in the ground which helps the wells and borewells to recharge.
Need not wait for the govt to do everything. We can take baby steps to conserve water and environment.
Yes. Our people due to British education and culture invasion, lost touch with nature. Nature is part of vedic culture. People knew its importance and gave first place. British education undermined it and there were no attempts to change it after independence. In my childhood my paternal uncle used to take me around the plants in village yo water them. There were many trees in our courtyard which grown with drained utensiles water etc. they got vitamins feom that water. Nowadays only concrete jungle, there is no space for rain water pits and harvesting. So it has to start again from villages taking into confidence all the sarpanches
British planted millions of trees in great hedge . Why blame someone ? What did the current govt do ? How trees did it plant in 10 yrs ? How many lakes has it revived ?

It doesn't mean they developed our nation. Whatever Western countries do, it is to their advantage. engili chetto kakini kooda kottaru. Regarding British planting trees, I am not saying they did not plant, they spoilt our education so much that we forgotten nature. Reg 10 years rule, if your could not see the development I cannot convince you. It is not my job or not in my scope
This is the problem of us we just blame others for our deeds and how come education system is responsible for the heat wave. Its just that blame everything on the others and you are clean. It is our problem that we are not cycles or public transportation for small distances instead of cars and bike. We are not planting enough trees. In schools we are taught everything about environment and the steps to save it but hardly any people follow it. -Watermanagement by water storage for mainly cities and agriculture,
-Protection of (large) trees as trees *create* water (really!),
-diversification of water usage per hour per sector,
-Siesta´s during the day,
-please don´t use mechanical fans as they just move air and don´t cool the air and therefore only consumes electricity / the same effect can be created by use of a normal paper fan (cooling of air is almost not possible unless using a ton of energy),
-Create more waterways that penatrate deeper into land,
-DON'T POLLUTE THE RIVERS!,
-plant shading trees beside small streams of water as it evaporates less when it covers the body of water,
-Cover soil with grass and other dried plant material against draught (that don't burn easily)
-Paint the roofs of building white (albedo effect),
-build buildings according to aerodynamics to use the air stream through and beside buildings to push the warmer air out of the building (is already being done in Arabic and Sahel countries),
-reduce livestock as livestock consumes SO MUCH WATER / or change the water usage of these animals (see link with diversification).
-follow a vegeterian/ vegan diet.

How can we balme this on Nehru?
This needs to be blamed on all central governments from 1960s till 1990s , these 4 decades mandatory two child policy was required.
Sanjay Gandhi was visionary but had zero implementation knowledge.
He should have first created psychological change and then fertility change, but he started with fertility and it failed.
And that is why today it is anywhere between 1.4 to 1.6 billion.
Nehru should have created policies to limit population. He lacked vision
@@mlg1279 not possible at Nehru s time, do you even know psychology of people?
There are people who say from first period till last period, female should be engaged in child birth, imagine how many kids it may mean or how women health would be.
Change in thinking process takes times, from 1960s such programs should have started. And by 1970s or 1980s two child policy should have become mandatory for 20 to 30 year period.
