Say you wanted to do the same in a country like the US for example, the proposal would probably have to go through multiple rounds of approval before it even makes its way to the city hall office. I wouldn't say the whole world, problem is most of the people who live in these climates live in low-income countries. The north and south tend not to have these problems. Right? This entire video is a joke. There is absolutely no regard for environmental effects, the only reason for reducing dependence on A/C is because they want to keep more money in their pockets. World's largest underground cooling system? Toronto: Hold my beer.
"Pumping cold water into the surrounding office towers in the summer" is not possible in Singapore. In Singapore, everyday is summer and there are just too many office towers and buildings around and Water is super precious. Hence, Singapore is looking for a more sustainable way of cooling its environment especially since it is summer everyday for them and pumping water is not possible because Singapore treats water as a very precious resource to only be used for survival as much as possible. Interesting to see that the pumping of cold water works well in Toronto but it may not be feasible in Singapore.
'urban.. heat.. mitigation.. strategy..' by the time we have memorized this term, Singapore has already come up with a solution. :) Kudos to your culture, Singaporeans.
I really miss Hong Kong. I wanted to move back two years after I left, but...things changed. Singapore seems to capture most of what I loved about living there (I mean, it's not identical, but most)...I'd love to move to Singapore one day.
i always admire Singapore , they advance more than countries with abundance natural resources like Indonesia, while a lot green areas in Indonesia are built for commercial buildings and factories
As a physicist, imho what they need is something like SkyCool systems solution, or more of that district cooling. All those AC units need to dump the heat either radiatively into the sky, or into water through district cooling, but not in the air right outside the buildings where it'll quickly find its way back in. Also, try to eliminate surfaces that are black in the visible spectrum. Ideally, surfaces should be as dark as possible in the far IR spectrum (so they radiate heat back to the sky as infrared) and as white as possible in the visible spectrum (so that they absorb as little sunlight as possible). Any dark building surfaces should be painted.
Liquid cooling or centralized cooling system is really common in every larger building such as shopping mall worldwide. They just did it in much larger scale.
City paradise. just wow... i been in Singapore in 2008 that surprises me how clean the country and the rooftop mall garden amazed me. this model of the urban plan should be a standard mostly in south Asia to follow. kudos Singapore.
Encouraging to see methods such as DUCT modeling being used to address the issue. I hope it proves successful and that other countries can use it/develop their own for their urban planning.
Although it looks practical for Singapore, the infrastructure might not work out as well for other countries that is not constrained by land. Since it is more economical avoid building underground.
Every time Singapore does something for the country, it just feels wonderful. Even though in summer Singapore did felt bit hot, it's way better than other countries. and I loved the transportation there! India is very far behind of taking care of the country in terms of nature. And it's only getting worse and worse! I wish to see India getting somewhere like this by 2050, or at least in my lifetime.
Amazing city! well done Singapore!💪 Where I live, in Barcelona, Spain, we also try to increase the green areas, specially vertical gardens and using rooftops to build communal areas. Also what we call superblocks, blocks of apartments, where the speed of the road is reduced and there's also more greenery around, we have a project for that in 5 years time. We hope the governments invest more in making our cities and villages more comfortable👍
Those buildings with the plants all over look incredible. I'm not sure it would work where I live due to the weather but Id love to see much more of that.
INSECT BITE *-* what air pollution are you talking about, and what concrete beaches are you referring to? I worked there for years and I never experienced any air pollution. Their beaches may not be world class, but what would you expect from a country with such a tiny land area? Have you ever been to a landlocked country with zero beaches?
tigerion tigerion it’s no longer a colony. And singapore was a backwater town with terrible infrastructure when the British left. Hong Kong on the other hand, had significantly superior infrastructure when compared to Singapore from the 50s to 70s. Singapore’s colonial history has very little to what the country has become today.
Lived in singapore for 6 years and graduated from high school there. By far my favorite place in the world. It has its own problems-especially with racism and other social issues-but city planning is beautiful. I can tell that LKY really was gunning for the "city in a garden" aesthetic with the architecture. Especially around the CBD areas like harbourfront. Despite not being true blue Singaporean, I'm so happy to be be even mildly associated to such an amazing country.

I would guess shes riding around a modelled city block or something. If you were to design an area with bikes in mind it would be cool and pretty easy to bike in it virtually first.
Last I recall from the news, that VR bike ride was more for a cultural thing while also doubling as an exercise thing. That was at least a year back, so you _might_ be able to search it up.
I live in a forest in a thick canopy. It is cool usually even in summer! It does get hot but its nothing compared to NYC or Chicago or Tampa or New Orleans in the summer, all places I've lived and all these places cut down too many trees, and the concrete just cooks you. Trees are the way to go!
Very cool city!! Trees in a city are really important not only for environment, but also for mental health of the residents. The idea to make a whole-city model is amazing. I guess it can be possible probably because of the small size of the country. I hope it help other cities in the world be more sustainable and comfortable.🌱😀
Singapore is doing a great job. I think one more point to note is what kind of trees contribute more to cooling. As some trees can produce 24hrs oxygen while others can't. Maybe it is also a point worth noting.
Singapore should be the benchmark of other countries. I really hope its advocacy of “cooling” can be an eye opener to the climate changes affecting the world as a whole.

@@artx000 yea because we are proud to see our country get mentioned.

Love to see these types of surroundings everywhere in the world 🌎❤️
Way to go Singapore! Singaporeans are truly living in the future.
Wow, liquid cooling being applied to cities not just PCs amazing!

Singapore, a govt which actually cares about the well being of their people. Really rare in this age.
Amazing city! well done Singapore!💪
Where I live, in Barcelona, Spain, we also try to increase the green areas, specially vertical gardens and using rooftops to build communal areas.
Also what we call superblocks, blocks of apartments, where the speed of the road is reduced and there's also more greenery around, we have a project for that in 5 years time. We hope the governments invest more in making our cities and villages more comfortable👍
Love what Spain is doing. The greened areas look beautiful.

Singapore is the most advanced city in the world. Loved that place! Hope to be able to come back one day.
Except their air pollution and concrete beaches are just outdated. We are better than this.
Well, the most advanced colony city.
tigerion tigerion it’s no longer a colony.

Investment is the key to sustaining our financial longevity, and not just any investment but an investment
with guaranteed return.
To earn more you are required to have a multiple diversified stream of income, which is why investment is an avenue of making more money once it's profitable.
Crypto currency is one strong means people are raising their financialstatus now, so when you think investment I recommend you make it an option
It's more wise and save that those intending to start crypto journey learn the trade withprofessionals who understand the market quite well, with that maximum profit is assured.
It's professionally recommended to trade your coins with experience brokers, who can help grow your coins while assisting you learning the trade
l also can be a profitable in trading all it will take is determation and mentoring even though you lose money you keep on trying

Lol. I kept waiting for the woman taking a virtual bike ride to mean something, but alas gave up.

As a Singaporean, i feel thankful to live in Singapore :>
Very cool city!! Trees in a city are really important not only for environment, but also for mental health of the residents. The idea to make a whole-city model is amazing. I guess it can be possible probably because of the small size of the country. I hope it help other cities in the world be more sustainable and comfortable.🌱😀
So plant trees to create cool shade? Fascinating. Who would have thought of this. Pure genius.
Singapore is doing a great job. I think one more point to note is what kind of trees contribute more to cooling. As some trees can produce 24hrs oxygen while others can't. Maybe it is also a point worth noting.
Sky gardens i love that idea.. truly a sight to behold... props to Singapore..
