@@lankypanky9716 i agree, personally i liked Maestro and how they were portrayed it was very reminiscent of the classic doctor who Master and his Campy nature, it was a good bit of fresh air, and since Maestro is only Banished who knows, Maybe they will make a return at some point, fleshing the character out more, showing more of their power, giving the doctor something to be scared at, i understand why he would have been scared, especially after his literal first battle [of this new life] was with the toymaker, once he hears it you can tell he is terrified, something we havent really seen the doctor being in classic or modern who,
I honestly didn't mind the Toymaker being a magical mysterious entity, but I admittedly hadn't seen the original introduction of him. Neil Patrick Harris sold the role well. If I were working on this season, the Toymaker's return and vanishing would have been a hint that the same problem 10 faced in Shakespear's theater was once again rearing its head. The Toymaker is a being of the same Order as the Witches, and his return heralds the fact that the vanishing of Gallifrey has made their victory over the witches fragile. And the Toymaker would either return, or the witches would be reappearing by mid-season. And it again sounds like they needed a Missy, and got a self-absorbed actor who couldn't play a character, instead, for the Maestro.
The music number at the end was like RTD wants the show to be Austin powers. in fact play the Austin Powers theme over it and it fits perfectly. What the hell is this show supposed to be now?
Its a man with full male dangly bits in a dress. He is a drag performer, ergo not trans, if he is trans, he cant be a drag performer as that is an art form that has a man dressing as and playing a female character. Both cant be true. These silly buzz word like Transphobia are meaningless and overused, and simply an attempt to silence critique of weird behavior.
The character pronouns and the actor pronouns are entirely different and yet you all expect me to guess what they are correctly. Pronoun ideology is unfair because its designed so that the users can always play the victim no matter what. I should be allowed to call it like I see it when I see a fat, ugly man playing a sexist caricature of a woman.
@@thegasmaskpodcast Even RTD got "JinX" pronouns wrong multiple times in a single interview. Because its all LARP and makes no sense. @@thegasmaskpodcast Don't feel bad, even RTD couldn't get Jinx Monsoons pronouns right, he screwed them up multiple times in a single interview. Aint NOBODY knows what that is.
@@thegasmaskpodcast jinkx’s pronouns are she/they in drag and she/her out of drag, and maestro’s are explicitly they/them. a quick google search would’ve told you her pronouns and the fact that she has publicly identified as trans since 2017. as for the so called “pronoun ideology” understanding pronouns should be something anyone who has passed second grade should be capable of and it’s literally not that hard to ask for and use multiple pronouns if you have at least half a brain. you can dislike a person or acting performance without personally attacking them, there is literally no need to fat shame and misgender jinkx other than for whatever hatred dwells in your heart.
Absolutely loved this episode. Jinkx absolutely delivered too. You do not know Doctor Who if you think that wasn't Doctor Who. Go Watch Pyramids of Mars or Kinda. Or the 3rd Doctor story where he got a penis shaped scanner in an episode about Tom Tit. He puts UNIT on Alert because he sees the master in a dream. Sargent Benton gets turned into a Baby at the end.
Pyramid of Mars has real emotional depth and is therefore not even remotely comparable. Kinda is only goofy because of the low budget. That's what most people don't understand about Doctor Who, cheap special effects doesn't mean the show is trying to be stupid. Underneath the lack of budget are well written stories that stand the test of time in spite of production value. Kinda is interesting and well executed; undeserving of being compared to an episode where the Doctor does absolutely nothing to save the day until the Beatles accidentally play the last note correctly.
I'm sorry, I must have forgotten the musical Austin Powers song and dance number in Pyramids of Mars, and the parts where Sutekh the Destroyer had a Devil went to Georgia play off with the Doctor while wearing a f*cking ball gown. Can you give me the episodes and time indexes for the corporeal musical notes floating around in the air scenes too? I will just take your word for it that the roundel lights in the TARDIS control room also randomly turned to the Trans pride flag colours, I mean that was a constant thing in Classic Who. Behave.
They really should have played Maestro as creepy. The character looks legitimately frightening and behaves extremely erratically. The toymaker was super high energy and had an air of bravado, so they should have made a contrast of having this horrifying thing be scary. By making the tone act as if Maestro makes any sense instead of being a lunatic, the mood mismatched the episode. It was very weird. I do want to challenge what you said about the toymaker. He was always this powerful. He created a whole reality for playing games to beat out others and the Doctor stated that even if that whole reality ceases to exist the toymaker will forever live on. At one point he doesn’t like the Doctor talking to help out the others so he makes every part of him except his hands. He was definitely more overstated with his bravado now, but he was originally still acting at his core the same, just more elegant. He talks about being a massively sore loser very clearly, stating that he’s bored of the current world that he’ll only destroy if he loses, but refuses to lose anyways. He was just much more big and dramatic to mess with the Doctor as much as possible because of that loss, and even drops that loud and bombastic show the moment the Doctor challenges him to a game, completely going serious and talking with the same kind of voice as he originally had. He’s been pretty consistent between the two episodes.
Maestro is the idea of music given form. Chaotic, neither good or evil, without ideas of normality or cause. They are the music if it could talk and act. Music has always been the purest form of creativity. It does not conform, it changes, it is by its very nature not a binary idea.
