HOW MUCH ALUM??? One heaping teaspoon of alum per cup of hot water works perfect for me. Make sure the water is hot so that it dissolves properly. (Alum can be found in the spice section of most grocery stores).😉
Oh. My. Holy. Wow. This is SO AWESOME. I couldn't stop saying wow especially as you unwrapped batch 3. I've been eco dyeing for a while but have never heard of this method. Going to get out my dye sprays now and gather some leaves. Thank you THANK YOU for your generosity and for linking to the other 2 artists. You made my day. With appreciation, Kay
You mention this to me a few weeks ago and they were worth the wait. Every single one is more beautiful than the next. Thank you for sharing your talents. Hugs!
Kory, I've just watched Susan T Brown's demo, and you have really amped this up about 3 notches with your colors and results. I'm following Jibid Neary now! Thank you for referring other artists. I love what you've done, I live in a forest with constant inspiration.
Thank you for sharing and linking previous artists! I'm going to try with natural dyes with steam or rust water as well as leaving in the sun! looking forward to experimenting! :)
I stack mine too Kory. Lack of space to lay them out individually is the main reason. The kitty litter tray is a good idea. I have been using a foil baking tray but the base is corrugated whereas the litter tray is flat. It would be better. I love these results and am eager to do another batch. Thanks for sharing. xoxo I love Susan's and Jibid's methods too and I have done it those ways as well.
Wow! These came out beautifully, Kory! I’m definitely going to try your method. Thank you! I also love Susan and follow Jibid as well. Susan is the one who told me how much I would love you and your work. She’s right! 😊
@Kory's Art Cafe Thanks, Kory. I have to say that after having gone to watch the two RUclipsrs who inspired you, I think you have taken their work to a new and stunning level. Tying those grids together over the papers was inspired, and and clearly provides a fabulous result! Well done!
Susans papers are amazing. I just sprayed papers using watered-down Tempra paints. Maybe that will work with these. I probably should add the allum to spray my papers I love the dark ones too !!
On the first batch the next to last one you showed looks like an eye. I have not done the technique this way. I have only done a boiled book using leaves, pine branches, rusty items and flowers but the background itself always comes out gray or brown. I love doing this. You never know what you are gonna get. But I have found that the green leaves make the water turn gray and the metals also from pot, maybe racks you used. I love them all
I was wondering if the type of metal used could effect the outcome, as well. For some reason I think using those disposable, aluminum baking pans sold at dollar stores might have a negative reaction. I don't mean bad for your health, I mean the prints may not turn out as nice.
Absolutely stunning! Really I have to tray this...I watched Jibid and Susan lond time ago and I wanted to try and I forgot, and now you reminded me. TFS. You are amazing like always.

Trying this and drying them in a low heat oven - I'm REALLY impatient! Thank you for the video. I 'tea/coffee/stain/ink etc.' dye all my papers using the 'stack method' because the imperfections and surprises are perfect for my girlie grunge style. Ordering alum today! I'm also subbing your channel. Thanks again.
Thank you. Welcome to my channel! Yes, drying them in a low heat oven will work well. My only concern is when I use plastic stencils. Then I force myself to wait the old fashioned way. It’s REALLY HARD! Haha The most important key to this is making sure your elements are suctioned to your papers. Any air pockets will disrupt the printing. Enjoy! ☺️
This is sooo gorgeous ! Thank you so much for sharing and being so generous 🙏🏼 ! It was like Xmas time for me when you open presents 😁 (in fact it was much better !!). I wondered how it would work on fabric...
sabine thank you. I would do it with RIT dye on fabric. All the sprays are water activated. If you did it that way, you just couldn’t wash the fabric ever. Not sure if it would work.
@@KorysArtCafe Thank you for this useful advice with Rit dye which I didn't know ! Most of the time I don't wash my fabric because I embroider it after dying 😉 ! Thank you again, I love your experiments 🙏🏼 !
These are so absolutely stunning!!! OMD they’re gorgeous 😱 Those blues & greens, the browns, pinks & all of them are treasures indeed. I was eco-dying tonight after watching Luise Heinzl’s genius idea of die cutting real leaves & using them in the process. And I was wondering if I could use sprays in the process too. I did try some Brushos on a few pages & also tried die cutting some coloured cardstock. I actually boiled that batch & they’re waiting for me to unwrap in the morning (night here in Australia). And can’t wait to see how they turn out. But looks like I have some sprays & more eco-dying in the morning (if I can stop watching videos & go to sleep lol). Thank you so much for sharing
lol. Sounds like you caught the bug of eco dying and paper spraying. Yep, just keep experimenting. These art forms are all about trying different stuff. That leaf die cutting sounds fabulous! Can you link that video here for me? I’d love to watch it.
Absolutely stunning papers I love every color combination… After hearing you say you used a kitty litter box I thought this is definitely my type of channel ;) I subscribed with full notifications… Again just gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous paper
Good video! (from another Colorado gal!) Funny but even before I heard you say it, I was going to thank you for sharing the names of the other artists who did this technique before you! Great practice! Looking forward to getting to know the first and already in awe of Jibid! Your prints are awesome! I just bought a bunch of oxide sprays and so this is very timely for me to find you now! Lucky me! Good luck to you too!💕
Absolutely wonderful. Thank you so much for this video. I just love your site, you are incredibly talented. I am going to try this and I have a feeling I will have more dye on me than the paper.👍🏼❤️
Haha. I hear you. The problem is lindy’s sprays are forever water reactive. And they rub off too. Not great for longevity. I’m thinking of trying this with ink or dyes, hoping to eliminate the drawbacks.
Amazing video. Really wow. Actually, I really enjoyed listening to you. I can tell beyond the utube world that you are an amazing person. Hoping that if I ever get past my technical difficulties of technology and do videos that I can support the people I learned from along the way like you. I also so appreciate people who share . Why not!. I’m the type of person that will share everything I know. The second batch when you pulled out that first one with the strong blue it was deja vu of pottery class in high school with blue marble glaze. Glazes had just started coming out with these crystals that exploded into bursts of color when fired. Remember how in the video u said something about going on too much, that’s me right now. I’ve only done boiled eco prints and somebody did something with my pot so when I saw this …. I stumbled across this video looking for Jibid’s which I wanted to view as a refresher. Thanks for your experimenting with keeping this process contained to a small space. One request though: please do not take leaves from plants in public places unless it is autumn and the leaves are on the ground! If everyone did that, the trees would die! Instead, carefully choose leaves from your own plants in the manner of pruning. In other words, removing what will help the plant to grow better. Or use the “weeds” you pull from the garden. That’s a win-win. “Eco” isn’t Eco if we aren’t thinking about the health of the ecosystem. Thank you 😊
You might want to consider using Rit dye, tie dye,or permanent inks in place of sprays. The sprays just don’t have enough binders to last. Your results will be beautiful, but unfortunately, most of it will wipe right off. Just a heads up for you.
These papers are stunning, Kory. I want to play with this technique, once I find the Dollar Tree drying racks! Will you share the dilution of alum to water? Thanks so much for doing this video.
Thx Cheryl! Sure thing. I use 1 teaspoon per cup of water. Mix with hot water to dissolve properly. If you mix a little more or less, it won’t hurt anything. I like to wear gloves due to the drying properties of alum.
WOW!!! Totally GORGEOUS! They came out perfect. I need to try this method of paper dyeing. Can you do fabric the same way??? I've done leaf printing before, which was beautiful. I rubbed distress ink pads straight onto leaves. And pressed between 2 pieces of paper. Maybe a little spray of water on copy paper first. But no boiling it. I'd like to try it your way next time. TFS Austin TX USA
Your leaf way sound awesome! I’ll have to try that. These were left to dry after I sprayed. (No boiling). I used water activated Lindys Stamp Gang sprays on these. You can do this on fabric which dye, but not the sprays. They sprays are beautiful, but wear off with time. It’s a bummer thing about them.
The tutorial was astounding. Thank you for sharing. I have only just seen this and am mad keen to do more interesting paper dying. I love the colours and am looking forward to giving this technique a try. I usually do similar but finish them off in the oven. I'm terribly impatient and could not possibly wait for three weeks for them to be dry enough to use. I suppose if there was a quicker way of drying them you would've told us on your video. Anyway, thank you so much.
Thank you so much. I’m just not sure it’s safe to dry these in the oven. If you live in a dry climate, they can dry faster, (depending on the size of your kit). I find it fun to make it, and busy myself with other projects knowing I have an amazing “present opening session” if I’m patient, lol. You do run the risk of it not working if you open it wet...I know it’s so hard. 😊🌿🌸
Getting ready to do some leaf prints today but have to do a different technique, as I don't have alum. I habe various inks and sprays, as well as some acrylic paint. Not sure yet what I will use. I might test a few different things to see what gets the best results.
It appears the thicker, older leaves work best. Maybe the younger, softer, smaller leaves adhere too well? Has anyone else tried this and found the same? Has anyone else tried this and added tweaks and twists to share? Thanks! These are GORGEOUS!!! I want to try this with all different shades of green. I find I have too much brown in my forest journal already. I'm sticking to mostly green and occasional sunlight.
I find that leaves with deeper veins work best. In the description of this video there are links to Jibid’s video and Susan Taylor Brown‘s video. Those are the only ones I know of using this technique.
Just stick a sewing pin in the spray hole to clear the clog! Or pull the spray tube out and vigorously jerk the spray top in a couple of inches of water in the sink or rinse it under the faucet.
Just awesome! I have done similar with flower petals and leaves but I ironed them dry or baked them in the oven. Do you think either of those ways would work with sprays? And I agree, alum really makes a difference. Thanks
For safety reasons, I would iron them, but not bake. The sprays have a lot of metallics in them and I would be afraid to have that around food. I think ironing the papers dry would produce fabulous results! ☺️
Thank you Gill. No, I made these with lindys sprays, so the process is to make your stack, secure it tightly, and let it dry completely. No simmering for this technique. The key is to walk away for a couple weeks.
Oh my goodness these are incredible! Ive only just discovered eco dyeing and these have really inspired me. What kind of paints did you use? Is it special dyeing paints?
I’m glad you’re excited about eco-dying. This is a different technique but similar. I used sprays for these papers. I go over all the materials in the beginning. It’s pretty involved, but very fun. I hope you give it a try.
Thanks, K. I love this technique!! So after you bundle them, you just leave them in or outdoors to dry for 3 or so weeks? I am thinking about them molding---I live in VA. Thanks.
Thank you Robin. That’s a great question. I live in Colorado and it’s very dry here. If I were in your situation, I would give it a shot, wear gloves, and keep all kids and pets away when I open it up. The worst that can happen is you’ll have to throw them out. I think it’s worth a try. It really does have to be completely dry for the leaves to print.
Those are so awesomely beautiful. WOW! What kind if water did you say sprayed on your paper (Alum water)?? This is the first time I have watched you and WOW am I glad I did, Thanks and God Bless.
Thank you so much Laurie! Alum binds dye to your papers. You can find it in the spice section at the grocery store. I mix 1 teaspoon per cup of hot water. (It must be hot to dissolve the alum).
Thank you. Yes, and it’s really important to have the leaves pressed hard into the paper. If there any gaps, they don’t print well. So it’s absolutely both. Happy printing ☺️
Thank you Mar! The THT stands for Treasure Hunting Tuesday’s. My channel used to be named Art archaeologist, and it used to be a thing. It’s not anymore though. 😊
I really like eco dying the best. These papers in this video are all done with water activated sprays. So I can’t rinse them and have to be much more careful. They’re beautiful, but more fragile than I like.
HOW MUCH ALUM???
One heaping teaspoon of alum per cup of hot water works perfect for me. Make sure the water is hot so that it dissolves properly.
(Alum can be found in the spice section of most grocery stores).😉

I'm terribly impatient and could not possibly wait for three weeks for them to be dry enough to use. I suppose if there was a quicker way of drying them you would've told us on your video. Anyway, thank you so much.
Thank you so much. I’m just not sure it’s safe to dry these in the oven.
If you live in a dry climate, they can dry faster, (depending on the size of your kit).
I find it fun to make it, and busy myself with other projects knowing I have an amazing “present opening session” if I’m patient, lol.
You do run the risk of it not working if you open it wet...I know it’s so hard. 😊🌿🌸
Inspiering! Thank you!☺
Wowwwzers!!!!
Thank you Yvonne. ☺️
Getting ready to do some leaf prints today but have to do a different technique, as I don't have alum. I habe various inks and sprays, as well as some acrylic paint. Not sure yet what I will use. I might test a few different things to see what gets the best results.
Sounds great! Let me know what works for you. Happy printing! 🍂🍁
Thank you! 😬
At 22:15 and 23:52 are my favourites. 💕
Thank you for letting me know. ☺️
These are really fun.
You can get a lot done all at once.
AMAZING, LOVE THE DAR "grunge", ? Is the alum mix in the spray bottle u wet paper with initially??? Beautiful creations
Thank you!
Yes 😊
It just helps adhere the sprays to the paper.
Wow mouth watering beautiful. You are so inspiring. Thanks. Are these just simmered in plain water for the usual 1-2 hours. Thankyou for sharing
Thank you Gill.
No, I made these with lindys sprays, so the process is to make your stack, secure it tightly, and let it dry completely. No simmering for this technique. The key is to walk away for a couple weeks.
@@KorysArtCafe oh thank you so much. Beautiful work.
@@gillyb44 sure. If you have any more questions along the way, let me know. 😉
Waouhhhhhhhhh bravo superbe 🦋🦋
I love the unown paterns of colours do you re use the leaves or is it one time use for the leaves .
For this technique, they can be used twice. You can also press them after use too for collage embellishments.
Brilliant video can the stacks be dried in a low temp oven?
Yes, I think you’d be fine to do that.
How much alumn do you put in your spray bottle? These are beautiful. Hope to try this. Thanks for sharing
Hi Ruth. I do about 1 teaspoon per cup of water. Make sure you use hot water to get the alum to dissolve.
Have you had trouble with leaves molding in the bundle?
Nope. Never. But I live in Colorado. It’s very dry here.
These are stunning! Do you think that part of the reason for getting such clear prints is you kept the stack in - tact for 2 - 3 weeks?
Thank you.
Yes, and it’s really important to have the leaves pressed hard into the paper.
If there any gaps, they don’t print well.
So it’s absolutely both.
Happy printing ☺️
Fascinating! You got some beautiful results!
Question: what does THT in your title after their names mean?
Thank you Mar!
The THT stands for Treasure Hunting Tuesday’s.
My channel used to be named Art archaeologist, and it used to be a thing. It’s not anymore though. 😊
Which papers did you like after trying the different ones?
I really like eco dying the best.
These papers in this video are all done with water activated sprays.
So I can’t rinse them and have to be much more careful.
They’re beautiful, but more fragile than I like.
Please tell me what you are spraying the paper with is that ink acrylic I didn’t understand spray thank you
Hi there! Sure.
I used lindy’s stamp gang sprays, distress sprays, and dylusions sprays.
There’s lots of fun water based sprays on the market. ☺️
