I tried my best to get it as close to Eddie Van Halen's iconic sound as possible, but let me tell you, it's no easy task. Matching his flanger sound and the echo effect is a real challenge, but I hope you enjoy the result nonetheless. Speaking of Eddie Van Halen, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible influence he has had on us as guitar players. Hard as hell to replicate that classic original brown sound! Jason did a great job indeed. Eddie is indeed missed. This will probably be a lesser shared opinion, but, growing up as a kid in the 80s, I really appreciate hearing songs from 5150, OU812, and Carnal Knowledge. I know most people prefer the brown sound of early albums, but give me that slippery, wet sound of Cabo Wabo or Black and Blue. And of course, anything from 5150 is a joy to flashback to. Y'all keep rockin'! This is such a wonderful channel, thank you so much for everything!

I've been picking a "Riff of the Week" to learn on guitar each week (using a lot of your videos for help), and last Friday, I asked a friend to pick a song for me and he picked this one. Monday I sit down to learn it and low and behold you post a video for it. Crazy coincidence!
For stuff like VH, Incubus, etc that have a interesting signal chains you should add that to the videos. Delay settings, phaser/flange, echo, etc... would just be another cool addition to your vidz. Love these vidz

Please make a Slither (Velvet Revolver) tab please, I’ve been trying to learn for solo for the past 7 months but all the tabs for it sound completely wrong, and you’re literally the only guy on RUclips who makes completely accurate tabs, I just hope you see this comment lol.

Fantastic job guys! I'm sure this was a true team effort to get the tone down. Being in a cover band that plays this, Panama, and Jump it's been a true gift to pick up a few nuances I've missed forever to make the end product that much better! (devil in the details) "I'm the One" would definitely be a guilty pleasure as it contains so many licks that are reused by EVH all over their catalog and in his habitual fills during open spaces when performing live. However, if pressed for quickly making content I'm sure Runnin with the Devil would take only a couple 1-2 takes from Shepp!
He didn't have the flanger on all the time only on the last 3 notes on the opening riff and a couple other times occasionally later on. It's mostly just palm mutes without the flanger and echo with some reverb. He used a phaser on the solo.They sound similar but different. He used the phaser on a lot of solos in the early days. Also the beginning is the correct way it's played but after the first time through he doesn't play 1 on the high E string then 2 G and then 33 BD. It's just 11 BD and 33 BD two notes together after palm muting picking the A minor

Still amazing to me that this song is so good and never feels repetitive despite basically being one riff the entire time.
