- In these times of confinement, we are happy to reshare some of our best Salomon TV episodes with our beloved subscribers.
The term “fell” is an often used Northern England expression for hill or mountain. It is presumed that Shepherds were probably the first ever fell runners with the earliest documented accounts of running in the fells dating back to the 11th Century. By the 19th century organised fell runs began taking place in Cumbria in the United Kingdom. Locals raced each other up and down hills and a sport was born.
In “Of Fells and Hills” we travel with American Writer, Photographer and Trail Runner, Rickey Gates, to the UK to explore and discover the history, culture and legends of the ancient practise of Fell Running.

Love that 90% of this is Glencoe
I am sitting here on a beautiful winter's day drinking coffee in Canmore, Alberta. I am watching the clouds pass over the mountains and I am grateful to be alive :)
Adrien Paul if you live in canmore you should be greatful! Beautiful!!! Btw.. it's spring now 😉✌🏼
Great days.....
What a film! You couldn't cram many more legends in if you tried. Simply excellent.
🔥
Miss salamon in releasing this kind of trail running videos..
I too found it distracting that the narration is talking about the Lake District but I'm looking at Glencoe.
Remember this series. One of the best of its kind. Used to stop whatever I was doing to watch an episode the moment it aired. Same today. Keep it up, Salomon. 👊🏻👣
💯% Agree
Lost count how many times ive watched this, love it..
The legendary fell runners of the English lake district..
and yet nearly all of the footage is in Scotland...
You can't show footage of Scotland in a fell running video about the lake district!
It's 11pm now and lockdown for many people, is not a good idea to watch this good video
😭😭😭 now I want to go running😭😭😭
Wilfredo Vazquez same 😂
there is so much history to this. Let it not be forgotten ✌
Amazing beauty of nature! Phenomenal! :)
Thank you very much for sharing! Perspective...
One of the most beautiful places I have been lucky enough to visit. Really nice short film. Thank you!
Such a special place! 😍
More fell (trail) running material please! This was golden
My favorite video Salomon has ever created.
🙏🏻
I'm tempted to agree, but I also love the Trail Dog film
Wish there were more from this series! Lovely film
I never heard of fell running before. It looks amazing!

Thank you ❤️✌️
Powerful.
Magnifique !
My favourite place, thank you again for the film
I love Salomon 💪
NZ crew checking in
how about making film about non sponsored average hill runners , people who buy your gear!
this is a cool idea. We could send you clips Solomon?
What is the song he is whistling at the start?!
😮😍
The name fell originally comes from medieval times ,running in hills the last person who “fell”was the winner
Big Flat sounds like the original “last man standing”! 😅
I messed paint all over my speed cross 4 :(
Great film but why talk about the lakes and show what's clearly Scotland? 😆
Fells in England, Fjell in Norse lands.
I wish you'd checked the spelling of Snowdon before you published this...
