    Doesn't his advice boil down to generally spend less money than you bring in, i.e. savings, and aggressively pay down debt ASAP if you are in debt? Simple, solid advice, but people suck at doing this (it's kind of like how to not be obese, simply eat less and move more to be in an energy deficit to lose bodyfat, but people suck at doing this in the details of everyday life even if they understand the overarching concept)

    • @kchuvala
      @kchuvala 11 месяцев назад +5

      Yep, and that's where Dave's plan excels; helping people build an approach that reinforces overcoming the inertia of everyday life to actually DO the right thing(s) when it comes to personal money management. He's very open about saying there's nothing new about his advice. But as he says, personal finance is 20% knowledge, and 80% execution (or whatever his favorite word is that day.) So he focuses on teaching the 20% for those who have never learned, but what he's really great at is helping folks make progress on the 80% with a plan that's been proven to work over and over, for decades now.

    • @Stevarooni
      @Stevarooni 11 месяцев назад +1

      His plan works with cruddy economic mindsets. He has them attack their _smallest_ debt first for the thrill of achievement rather than the highest interest rates, because the money-ignorant need to "see" something go away rather than a fast-growing debt accruing more slowly.

    • @kchuvala
      @kchuvala 11 месяцев назад +2

      @Stevarooni "Cruddy" is probably right in some cases, but the point is that lots of people need help to develop a personal finance plan that works. DR has excelled at that unlike anyone else I know of.
      When we took FPU, it wasn't because we were low-income of dumb, but rather because an unexpected rush of uncovered and partially-covered medical bills slammed us in a short amount of time, wiping out our savings and putting my back against the wall. We could have filed bankruptcy, but because we took FPU, we dug out of that very deep hole and ended up fine.

    • @MichaelJM

      @@StevarooniHe says this a lot but his plan tries to solve a behavior problem not a math problem. The debt snowball method might not make sense mathematically but if it helps folks to change their behavior when it comes to debt, that's going to pay dividends long term.

    • @peterhansen2781
      @peterhansen2781 11 месяцев назад +1

      It isn't. Dave Ramsey assumes you will be disciplined enough to pay off debt, but not disciplined enough to responsibly use credit after. I've put every expense I can on credit cards since graduating college. I have not paid interest, ever, but have reaped the benefits of travel and cashback rewards.
      When it comes to things like low interest mortgages vs investing, Dave's advice/beliefs are straight up factually wrong. He is incredibly dogmatic on debt, perhaps because he was irresponsible with it in the past and projects his own mistakes on to others.

    Love Ramsey but he’s completely wrong about credit cards. His model is based around people who aren’t credit card people. Many people can’t use credit cards without racking up a ton of debt. For for those who can use them and regularly pay them off every month, USE THAT SUCKER! Caleb Hammer makes the distinction of credit card people vs non credit card people. Dave Ramsey is rich and doesn’t need to ever consider using one. The reason he continues to say never use a credit card is bc his university and its reputation is contingent on him forever saying to never use one.

    • @kchuvala
      @kchuvala 11 месяцев назад

      I don't think he's wrong; he's realistic. Most people *aren't* "credit card people" in the sense that they are able to manage them correctly to come out ahead, mathematically. And way too many people rely on their credit card(s) to be their emergency fund, an easy path to big trouble. You nailed it with the "pay them off every month" thing, but the truth is the vast majority of people don't. They might get the concept, but because they don't have a sound financial plan as a basis, they put themselves into a position to not execute on the concept.
      Full disclosure: My wife and I took Financial Peace University in 2001, and I was an FPU coordinator/leader for many years. I've had folks in class that range from those truly in financial trouble to professionals who just thought there had to be a better way, and even a couple of CPAs! No one ever told me the class (then a 13-week affair) wasn't worth their time. Even the financial pros picked up on things they could use to help their clients.

Dave was asked his favorite book in the Bible, and he hesitated, mentioned 20 yrs ago, and then pointed out a different book. Huh? Makes you 🤔. He should have answered that question immediately if he's in his Bible. Where is his advice coming from that he's giving others. Is it coming from God or Dave. I can't decide if your comprehension is crap, or if you're intentionally trying to deceive people who didn't watch the whole thing.
      Dave was asked what book he'd add to the Bible and he said that was heresy; so they asked what book was his favorite and then he responded with a good book he read lately and said it was just as relevent as it was years ago.
      When asked about accepting Jesus he referenced that timeframe in his life in relation to his financial journey, which is the part of his past the audience would be most familiar with. Had he said the year the audience wouldn't have had the same connection to the timeframe of his life.

      @@arthrodea that is not what i said and a false attribution. The Bible doesnt specifically mention a financial investment strategy. What about the plumber that fixes your pipes? Do you pay him before he does the job? No, you accrue a debt and pay it. The Bible only concerns itself with taxes and the ultimate debt that Christ paid for us. Where I think it becomes immoral is when you don't pay your monetary debts.
