- Nebraska took a big step back on Saturday, losing 56-7 at Indiana. Connor and Mitch get together in the wake of the debacle to assess the damage as coach Matt Rhule and the Huskers limp back to Lincoln, with Ohio State up next.
How does that kind of a game even happen? Rhule was surprised. The Huskers clearly weren’t ready after their bye week. The Hoosiers overwhelmed Nebraska in every phase and on nearly every possession. This is the dumbest commentary I’ve ever heard. The better players on the field? IU has better 3rd string RB than Nebraska’s starter. IU’s backup QB is better than Raiola. Indiana absolutely shit on Nebraska and everyone that watches Nebraska is in denial about how bad the team is. It’s not coaching its players and IU has more talent on the bench in many positions than Nebraska’s starters. And before anyone argues… 56-7 backup QB all second half. 4 different RBs scored touchdowns against that great rush defense. Nebraska sucks! Accept it.

That is a compliment to your coaching staff, but apparently you aren't able to comprehend that. Your coaches took some FCS transfers and lower rated recruiting classes, and developed your players into a good football team. Where as our coaches have taken higher rated players, and haven't developed them.

I love Coach Matt Rhule But for him to say, he didn’t see this coming is a bit alarming. That said a lot could be learned from a loss like this. We should come out, fired up against Ohio State. But so will Ohio State after losing to Oregon quite a sticky situation. Just try and play well keep the game close anything can happen in the fourth quarter. We should know where we stand as a football team after this game and what’s it gonna take to beat a team like Ohio State? Raiola was a beast upon arrival, then he met a troll that lived under a bridge in whom he took tutelage. Instead of PROgressing, this awesome QB started REgressing because of said troll. It’s not like the defense showed up yesterday and in all honesty except for the Colorado game the defense only looks good against bad teams. It’s the whole team that needs to held accountable not just the coaches and the offense.
Last year Rhule defended Satt by blaming it on injuries. This year: no injuries, 5 star legacy QB, an O- line with tons of starts between them and our offense still stinks. Rhule needs to fire Satt but he won't.

I don’t even know how you can say Indiana doesn’t have better players than us. Did we even watch the same game? They are a clearly more talented team and a way better coached team. Which positions specifically are we “more talented at”? QB? Not today DR had multiple turnovers, RB? Not even close, fumbles and can’t run north and south. WR/TE? Outside of Fidone catching the ball, can’t block or get separation or run routes. OLine? Yeah right, DLine? Where was the pass rush or gap integrity? Back 7? Can’t tackle, make pursuit angles, make plays on the ball. Which position are we better at?

The name on the jersey doesn’t mean the team doesn’t have talent. Hell there’s been FCS teams for years that have more talented rosters than some power conference schools but the media and a lot of fans of schools who were once good but aren’t anymore don’t like accepting that this is true. Plus talent alone doesn’t win games ask USC ask ND ask Miami etc… teams with great recruiting classes every year yet lose games to group of 5 teams almost yearly.

It bothers me how much of this game was put onto Dylan’s shoulders. From everything we’ve heard and based on our success with the run game last year, Dylan’s job was to come in and make the passing game a THREAT, not the end all be all of this offense. 44 throws by a freshman qb on the road vs a top 20 team is a recipe for disaster. I want to say that it was from being down and trying to play catch up, but like you guys said we didn’t even attempt to get a run game established. This is one of many times the last 2 seasons where we hear that we want to run the ball, but then we sling it around all day. It drives me nuts when we go 3 and out on three pass plays. I am super disappointed with the run game this year. Figured it would at least be as efficient as last season…. Considering we brought every lineman back along with Emmett, Gabe, and adding dowdell.
Rhule and Satterfield don't know how to develop a run game. Almost all of neb rushing last season was from the qbs. The whole staff is in over their heads. This team is screwed.
Totally agree about Dylan. Way too much was put on his shoulders, we did NOT do him any favors, he should have been taken out of the game midway through the 3rd quarter. All we did was hurt his confidence and possibly his body yesterday.
We should have tried something different at qb. It's absolute bs that this staff kept Dylan on the field so long. It wasn't helping Dylan as far as I'm concerned it was only hurting him. He was already shaken up and we just kept putting him back out there side.
This is a lot of shade to throw at a team that just throttled the Huskers. One minute saying you don’t want to take anything away from Indiana, then very next saying that Indiana doesn’t have the talent to match up with Nebraska? Wonder if these guys hear themselves.
And it’s not like this is a surprise. It’s not like Indiana barely beat Bowling Green. Indiana so far clobbered every team they played. Maybe Indiana is just very good, and Nebraska got beaten. Maybe?

Our team and coaches need to understand the mistakes they made, both individually and as a unit and as a team. There's room for improvement on offense, defense and special teams - all three.
Easier to identify the things they did right and then work on everything else cause they didn't do much right

Sometimes you are just beaten. It isn’t just you lost the game, the other team won the game. In this case both teams played to the final result. Indiana is flat out better than Nebraska. You can discount their players all you want. I will take the guys with the winning effort and attitude. Nebraska didn’t play well. But the credit for that belongs to Indiana.
It always amazes me how Husker fans deny the obvious after every loss. The Huskers are not as good as their fanbase thinks they are. Indiana is well coached and loaded with talent. I think some Huskers would have a hard time making Indiana's roster. Indiana will win 9-10 games this year. Will Nebraska?
Nebraska fans always believe they have super talented players, it's delusional. You do not have a team with a ton of talent. Mediocre talent overall. 3 or 4 above average to very good defensive players. No WR big play threats on offense, a bunch of average RBs, below average O-line. Average to good TE talent. Horrible special teams. A freshmen QB with tons of potential but at this point not good under pressure at all. Please tell me how you have more talent than Indiana in any area. You live in a bubble and can't see the truth. You have about 3 players that could start for Indiana.

Indiana proved that They are Better in every faze of the Game. We used a Backup Quarterback and still scored 28 in the Second half. It's simply Nebraska got the Brakes beat off them.
From a business perspective, one could make an argument that none of the decision makers actually put success (on the field) of the program at the forefront.
It seems like a defunct consumer product and the business model is to continuously re-brand and suck every last dime out of every remaining customer until they have to declare bankruptcy.
As husker fans, we are the consumers and we continuously buy-in to any changes being made, and they appease us for a few years until they can’t, then we “re-brand.”
I watched until midway of second quarter. That was enough for me. I checked in after the game was over, wasn’t surprised. Wasn’t surprised. Literally zero emotional reaction whatsoever. I’ve been a fan for 35 years.
If others are feeling the same way as I am, we could be in serious trouble. Hopefully I’m more apathetic than most. From reading the comments, I probably am not.

I could not agree with your sentiments more. Rhule and staff seem to struggle having this team consistently ready to play both physically and mentally. In addition, what I saw in the second half when the game started to get out of reach, the defense especially gave a half assed effort. With NIL now, players do not need to be "hungry" anymore....many drive more expensive cars than their coaches. I have struggled accepting Rhule since his hire. 90 percent of fans climbed all over me last year when I was making arguments that Rhule is not the man to recreate the Nebraska brand of the past. But, Dylan was signed, WR room was greatly improved, the defensive line I thought that I might be wrong about Rhule. I DESPERATELY want to be wrong about Rhule. However, after games like Illinois, Northern Iowa, and yesterday (what sense did it make to keep Dylan in that game for as long as he was) coupled with the fact that the special teams coach still has a job is convincing me that Rhule is not a good fit at Nebraska.
After Indiana’s QB hurt his thumb, he was essentially a non-threat for down field passing. At least for the time being. How did everyone at home know they were going primary to the run and our inept coaching staff made no adjustments?

Imagine where Nebraska would be without Raiola. He still threw for over 200 yards, 70% completion, his INTs I’ll chalk up to him just trying to do something, anything. The more I look back on that game I start thinking if we don’t bring Raiola in… we’re 1-6 right now. I mean, we can’t even kick field goals. Like it’s so bad we don’t even try. What is going on?

I agree with your sentiments. I argued hard last season that Rhule was not a good fit. I got blasted by many that I had to be patient and it was only his first year. 90 percent were telling me that. Then, Dylan signs, pretty good WR transfers, Big SLOW Ty and Nash returning, I started to think that I was dead wrong on Rhule. I have coached my entire adult life....I am certainly not saying that my coaching high school baseball is on the same level as the head football coach at Nebraska....but, as a coach, I have felt and will always feel that the absolute number one responsibility of a coach is to have their team ready to play both mentally and physically. Rhule seems to struggle with getting the team ready to play.....since his first game, under Rhule's coaching, this team is wildly inconsistent. Rhule also seems to struggle with holding his coaching staff accountable. As poorly as the offense played, the defense was significantly worse. As a lifelong supporter of the program since I remember watching my first game in 1980 at 10 years old, I knew that the program would not be the same when Coach Osborne retired, but I never, ever thought that the program would be mired in mediocrity to poor for, what, 23 years since the Rose Bowl route by Miami.
i totally bought in this offseason and thought we had finally turned the corner and better things were on the horizon...this is brutal. i still have some belief in rhule, but to be this ill prepared after a bye week is shocking. with so many 6th year guys on the defense, how can you go into a game like this and come out with that performance...I'm more concerned about what year 3 and 4 for rhule will look like...what once seemed like the beginning of a modest return to the old huskers looks like it might be just more of the same. where do we go from here...i admit during the game yesterday i was feeling like this might be a repeat of last season's finish and we'll still be waiting for that sixth win after black friday...yikes indeed

That's true. The 2016 Ohio State game was worse than this game against Indiana and just 1 point short of the 04 Tech game for the worst in school history. The irony is that 2016 was Nebraska's most recent (reasonably) good season, as the Huskers went 9-4 and played in their most recent bowl game to date.
This game gave me a migraine from which im still recovering. Satterfield and White need to get in front of a mic and answer for this.

I am now of the mind that the Jeff Sims debacle was probably the rule vs the exception. I've lost a great deal of confidence on the decisions made by our head coach.
Especially decisions to keep the only coach that should have not been retained from Frost's staff. And adding a WR coach that should have probably been coaching high school football. Both are miserable coaches.
Think about how often our RBs are hit before they get out of the backfield. It happens all the time!

I've always viewed all-white uniforms (on any team) as the players wearing "surrender flag costumes". I definitely prefer the "red pants" road uniforms on Nebraska.
