    Nice setup

When we first got access to 6m here in France, all i had was a dipole and a power limit of 5w (it depended in which department you lived to the power you were allowed) and i worked all over Europe with this simple setup, same story on 10m, a simple dipole and 5w up to whatever you have available is more than enough to work anyone when the bands are open. As you know as long as your antenna is at least a wavelength above ground your good to go !
Certainly with where we are in the sunspot cycle a rotary dipole is an excellent choice as the bands are in such good shape, anyone anywhere can call you and your not going to miss them.
    Cheers for the video matey.

Cheers Anthony, interesting background information. Yes, I worked Madeira on 10m within 2 minutes of finishing the antenna and firing up the rig! 6m is mostly dead though except when there's a lift.

@@OxfordShortwaveLog Really 10m is my favourite band, which harks back to my CB days as a 14 year when my Dad installed a 'rig' in his Austin Ambassador and i caught the radio bug !
6m is as you know a spectacular band when its open, although its never really closed, Meteor Scatter offers some great contacts on a 'quite band' as does EME, although i enjoy 'six' i now rarely go there as all i see/hear is FT8-FT4. Not my cup of tea !
      Cheers for the video Clint.

Thanks Anthony. Yes, 10m is a great band - I've worked so many South American stations on SSB previously. 6m can be amazing too, but it's so quiet nearly all the time. 73

    Nice Clint!
Simple and works with the added advantage of easy take down and storage plus transportable for field use.
The higher bands offer some spectacular propagation when conditions are good.

Well done Clint 👏👏Very impressive indeed. You should have some good fun during the winter months working transatlantic stations and beyond when the band really opens up 👍🏼

Cheers, Alan. Yes, I've had lots of success on 10m, particularly North and South America - looking forward to it! 73

Congrats on the 10M antenna setup. I only do FT8 on 10M, maybe we do a contact one day with the E Skip season underway. I have been received plenty of times by UK HAMs via FT8 in the southern half of the UK on 10M so should be possible. 73.

Definitely - 10m has been a really good band for me over the years working stations on ssb down into South America many times. FT8 also so hopefully we can work each other one day! 73

Nice 10m build, do you get any common mode down the coax as it doesn't look to have a balum or choke at the feed point?

    • @OxfordShortwaveLog
      @OxfordShortwaveLog  3 месяца назад

No, none at all. I did fit a choke but it wasn't required. The noise-loor on 10m is about S1, so all good.

I can echo you observations on 6m. Plenty of FT8 but no SSB. Disappointing.
