  • After spending a week in Yosemite, we ventured to Bishop, CA in search for the world’s oldest tree, the Methuselah tree, located high in the White Mountains of INYO National Forest. This tree was named after the biblical patriarch Methuselah, who is said to have the longest lifespan of all in the Bible at a ripe 969 years old.
The Methuselah tree is over 5,000 years old, and its exact location is kept a secret to help preserve the tree and avoid and knuckleheads damaging the area. After a bit of research, we found enough clues to piece together the approximate whereabouts and set off on a mission to find this ancient tree. But do we find it??? You’ll have to watch and see!!
    Have a great day everyone.

Amazing, thank you! Going to find him this weekend. But wondering, didn't they find an older one, more than 5,000 years old??

Hi Alexa! Thanks so much for watching and hope you have an amazing time finding Methuselah this weekend!!! The Prometheus tree was supposedly the oldest tree, but was cut down in the 60's by an unknowing research student for study. Boy, imagine being the person who cut down the oldest living tree by accident. Oy!! So technically, Methuselah remains the oldest LIVING organism on the planet. If you find otherwise, please let us know. Wishing you the very best!! ;-) - Jillian

Yooooooooo! Learned something new today. And you said it was in the Bible. It looked cold, so you know I'm out. Trails to get to the tree are VERY sketchy. Oh, don't think I didn't peep that Raven hat. Lol

The tree is Methuselah, can confirm. A cropped photo of that exact tree appears on the visitor center wall and is named Methuselah

Before the inevitable comment storm from disturbed naturalists begins...
Yes, the tree is Methuselah, the same tree as at 11:25 appears on the visitor center wall and is identified as such. Yes, the location was kept secret and is now widely available on the internet. Yes, I am happy the location was revealed and I genuinely hope you enjoyed finding it.
No, this will not endanger the tree. Trees even older than Methuselah have had their locations known for decades-centuries and no harm came to them. Examples include the 4000-5000 year old Llangernyw Yew, the 3000-9000 year old Fortingall yew, the 9000+ year old Old Tjikko pine, and the 13000+ year old Jurupa Oak, the locations of which are readily obtainable on the internet. In the UK, what we do to protect trees is install a fence around them. Same as in Sweden.
The call to hide tree locations comes from a diehard band of turbo-naturalists spreading unscientific and paranoid nonsense. For instance, a chap called Mario Vaden has been hiding redwood locations (whilst spreading nonsense and asking people to take his word for it) and his followers started a massive witch hunt and defamation war against a university student who leaked the locations. The same turbo-naturalists want to see all foraging banned in the UK and, if they get their way, will ban photography of some bird species next. Similar turbo-naturalists have been threatening to take photos of and ridicule people on social media who photograph rare orchids.
    This must stop.
At the same time, people who want to see locations of superlative trees witheld have completely lost my support. My advice to anyone who comes in contact with these people is to immediately block, mute, and ignore.
