    I am so glad you included long hair and some gorgeous long hair looks and tips. I am over 60 and still have longer hair. I have always preferred long hair to short especially here in Florida. I am glad I clicked on this video (I almost didn’t) because so many stylists suggest short dated cuts that require lots of products, bold hair colors that look unnatural and require lots of maintenance rather than a softer more modern look. I am going not for a youthful look, but a modern, natural look. Thank you for sharing these tips

      No, you are not the only one. I have had many haircuts that were short. Looks good in the shop but on Day 2, forget it! I am not clever with styling my hair. I finally stopped coloring it and let it grow. It is SO easy. I like a high ponytail, or an over the shoulder pony, or put it in a bun. I like it and now that its grown out from yet another short mistake, I'm keeping it slightly above my shoulders. That is the easiest ever.

Went short, white, and spikey and love it! Nothing worse than a woman in her 50’s trying to look like she did in her 20’s. Nobody’s fooled. Here's a saddish lesson...in our western (American and UK) life, the idea that being older is a something to be ashamed of from our very first birthday. Yhe words, "HOW OLD ARE YOU NOW?" is where the subliminal msg start...compare this with the Spanish "how many years do you have?" This subliminally says you HAVE something, and the more one HAS, the more lucky or honoured one is. The Chinese and Japanese also ask, "what is your age?" Again no mention of OLD implied. I could go on and on, but the bottomline is, American culture is one that seeks to shame persons for a whole range of things, and age is one such thing.

      Yes I remember that time and I HATE THAT. I have BEAUTIFUL clients who are in their 60s with GORGEOUS long hair. Did you see Shelly's hair in the video? She is a goddess. Her hair is absolutely gorgeous and we have so much fun customizing it and making changes in the winter, summer and fall. Just because you're older does not mean you have to have short hair. That is ridiculous. All you need to do is add some width so that your face doesn't look dragged down and tired. Add some layers, add some bangs, add some richness in the color (if you choose to color your hair), wear an awesome outfit and you are good to go!

    • @kandacehead9544
      @kandacehead9544 2 года назад +1

      @@GlamGirlGabi I understand why adding width and layers to long hair is necessary. My hair is currently almost classic length (covering the entire bum) and all one length. I plan to donate it in a few months and my goal is to donate as much length as possible and still have hair that falls just below the shoulders. Since my hair is very thick, it takes on a triangle shape when cut shorter and all one length. My stylist wants to cut it that way with no layers simply because layers are maintenance (in that I would have to take the time to style them if I want them to look nice) and I want an easy style that takes no longer than 5 minutes per day. My natural texture is straight with a little bit of a body wave, which becomes more pronounced the shorter I cut my hair. I want something easy, but don’t want triangle hair. My stylist and I also want me to wear my hair down more often (as opposed to constantly in a ponytail or braid), but having a shorter one-length cut makes me want to tie it back since it’s the only way to hide the triangle shape. Having layers would motivate me to take the extra time to style my hair and wear it down, but since I’m not used to doing so, learning proper styling techniques would come with a learning curve. Even after getting it down to a science, I would eventually get tired of the styling, especially if it takes longer than 5 minutes. I totally understand my stylist’s point of view, but feel like I’m between a rock and a hard place (in that I don’t want one-length triangle hair but don’t want to be bothered with styling layers). What should I do?

    • @GlamGirlGabi
      @GlamGirlGabi  2 года назад +2

      @@kandacehead9544 If you have long layers, you don't necessarily have to style them if you have only a slight body wave in your hair. Short layers would be a disaster if you don't spend any time on your hair but long layers should be okay. Another great option for you is to get the baseline of the hair point cut so that you free up A LOT of that weight at the bottom. Then you could get a bit of the front done with some face framing layers. That will free up the weight at the bottom and also add an area of interest at the front that should not be too high maintenance.

    • @kandacehead9544

    Great video and just what I needed as a woman of sixty. I love the bob cut and longer lob cuts. A few months ago my hair was 1 length to my shoulders. I went to a place to get a lob with subtle long layers and came with plenty of photos of the style I hoped to achieve.
    What I ended up with was a shaggy, short layers on top and back of hair, longer layers towards my face hideous mess.....When I tried to style it I looked like a throwback to the 80's!!! Which of course aged me terribly and I've been hiding ever since.
    I just need to find the right stylist that knows how to do bob or lob. The last one I went to clearly had no idea and when she asked me what a Lob was, I should've realized this hair cut was gonna end badly!

    Great idea for adding lift to the top of the head on down for those of us with curly longer hair that just wants to do what it wants. I use hot rollers and can roll it front to back rather than from the sides down. My hair is dry, and I've lost some of it, but it's thick and not noticeable except near my forehead. I have to spend more time on my hair than I used to.

It's all about finding someone who will customize your pixie, make it work with your gray pattern if you are going with your natural color and, of course, how you style it. I’m 63 and did the very same thing… I had below shoulder length and got pixie two years ago & I loved it but my husband hated it. He would ask me - why do women cut there hair short - do they want to look like a man? I decided to grow it out again… had a bob for a while - it’s now below the shoulder again & I find myself pulling it up or away from my face constantly. Now the gray is really coming in & I think I need to go short so it won’t look so bad growing out… Plus I’m also not wanting to keep up the $130 it cost to get a trim & color every 6-7 weeks. I’m just perplexed as to what to do.

    I really like you and enjoy your videos. By "like you" I also mean I get your thoughts and oppions about getting older, so this is not a criticism of you per se. I just really wish everybody would stop with the "how to look younger" on SoMe... it is frickin RENTLESS and inherently tells women that getting older is not okay and that we are losing value as we age (I'm 57). Seriously, what does society want us to do about it?! Commit suicide? Go sit on an ice flake and drift off to sea? Hide in shame until we die? Also, the constant focus on female beauty for any age group is damaging. Couldn't we just have a language with focus on looking "presentable", "cute", "your best" or something not directly related to being f***able (since that's what being young, slim and 'perfect' really means)? I've never been more competent in my life than now, yet all I get shoved in my face is "look younger". Sorry for the rant, it just really p**ses me off. Happy Easter everybody ✌️😊🐣

Over the years she did move away from it from time to time, and I've tried to give her lessons on round brush blow drying to soften her look but she always goes back to the hot rollers. Long hair is a sign of youth! The typical short "old woman haircut" ages a woman!! An older woman with long hair looks so much more feminine and youthful than her sisters with the typical granny haircuts.
    Older women with long hair look beautiful. And if a woman has had long beautiful hair all her life there is no reason to cut it off just because she turns 40, 50 or 60.

A few years ago now, I stopped colouring my hair (much to my mother’s horror as she coloured her hair until the day she died!) and I’ve been growing it long ever since the beginning of Covid because I couldn’t get a ‘both sides even’ cut while wearing a mask so I gave up having it cut. Now I can hardly wait to get about 4-5 more inches length and I can get long layers and be a platinum grey goddess with long flowing locks. 😂😊
