It's interesting that while Hades is absolutely the villain of this story and is shown in a very menacing light in this, not unfairly, it's worth noting that, as he said, he's doing this for Persephone. He's fucking up royally, as only a King can, but he's not doing this out of cartoonish malice. His love for Persephone burns like Apollo's Sun. So, he built Hadestown, bright and hot like summer, to try to emulate what it's like on the surface, to make her want to be here longer, and so he feels like he isn't losing her. But, given it's not his Domain, the Lord Of Riches cannot bring about true Summer.
I’m obesessed with the portrayal that Orpheus is *also* suffering. Obviously, Eurydice’s pain is the focus of this song and the next few, but it serves as a nice reminder that he wasn’t being selfish in working on the song. He was sacrificing himself just as much as Eurydice was, just for a bigger cause than survival. Idk it’s hard to explain- I just really like it lol
I love this art. The “old greek pottery murals” of the balcony and Hades and Persephone was a nice touch and sysiss rolling the boulder up the hill. That ending though for the Songbird looked amazing. Cause I always imagined hades standing over a barely livin Eurydice
Ok but these are actually the best Hadestown animations I’ve seen! I’ve thought for a while that if they ever made a Hadestown film, it should be animated. And I think you’ve nailed exactly the sort of style it should be in! I love the way you play with Greek imagery and mythological symbols and such too, it does so much to elevate this!
I love how Persephone‘s dress becomes like the Addams family mothers one. As opposed to the less evil one she wears when she’s up top. Because even she is somewhat at fault for ignoring what her husband is doing to the people of Hadestown And I love how one of the workers at the beginning falls and disappears. Implying how many just die working
Dang... The idea of Orpheus literally turning blue without noticing during his composition is really unsettling and I approve of it. Also, something about the way you draw the workers and lines of overhead lights is really making me want to try and paint a leckthos despite having never painted pottery before. Probably the workers in a band on the bottom, nigh indistinguishable, the people of the surface either dancing or freezing on the top band, and a moment from the tale painted across the center.
The bright neon city, how Hades is stuck in the shadows shows how much he changed and hides in his city, the distance he created between him and his queen. Halls of gold, the gilded cage, a wealthy home. Gilded eyes that shown how he wishes to give love with the gold in his veins.
I love your work. I love how you are revealing Hades slowly, but are still able to make his devotion come across. The gilded cage framing was *chef's kiss* perfection. I can't wait to see more
MY GOD, I mean, seriously, this is at the level of a profesional series right in our hands for free for such a piece of art, all de angles the characters and the scenes gave me goseegums and , Can i just mention how much I love that Orpheus is freezing too? I mean, in other animatic there are only showing how Eurydice is freezing but forget that Orpheus is with her too, such a great detail to show the characters love and determination for Eurydice sake and Persefone looked so gorgeous MY GOD KEEP GOING PLIS This is such underrated that is almost illegal and, well, thank you for bringing us this, I’m from Mexico btw, so excuse my bad grammar
orpheus child of a muse counts as a demigod so he would freeze slightly slower as he sang as hes more powerful than humans like highkey this is an 11/10 like this was extremely well done with love and care and you can tell.
mURKY STOP BEING TALENTED CHALLENGE (IMPOSSIBLE!)(COPS CALLED!) ur art is fantastic and i love how you are able to do expressions and other visual changes to portray environments and states. Eurydice appears visible exhausted and drained while trying to have hope for Orpheus but you can see that it goes from a faithful tiredness to an exhausted doubt where her desire for warmth and food is too great. I also fuckin adore Persephone's new design and glowing eyes flaring when she talks about nature and the balance of it all. She feels like a proper god. Hades feels like a husband who truly feels like he is doing it for his wife that he misses dearly and reacts (the blush I presume it is) when she is affectionate towards him but she recoils from his attempts. It is also lovely when you interject with greek-pottery style images of the "real" characters from the myth.
Thanks 💕, I really wanted Euridice to really look tired even when she thinks Orpheus can pull it off. And also how upset Persephone was with the situation they were in.
THIS IS AMAZING Glad to be here not so late, your designs of Persephone and the workers are the best. I love 3:51 and Sisyphus in the background. You're talented as hell (or Hadestown, ain't no difference anymore)💖
Amazing as always. Not only I love the style, but there's so much thought, care and effort put in everything, the details, the reveals, the way the characters are expressed. I'd really like to see your talent recognized more
@@murkymusito5 Okay but can't he just get wife through that door and further more she has to take the train to get out of Hadestown? I mean I get it's for plot convenience so so he can go to Eurydice but still makes me laugh this concept.

Gotta love how we don't even get a clear view of Hades' full face for the whole song. Really lends him an almighty quality.

I like the detail that orpheus is also freezing but doing as much as he can the only way he knows.

Persephone's last verse sent chills. Amazing job

The most epic Hadestown animatic I've seen. I especially like the transition from the world to the underworld at the beginning. Well done.
