Notes:
- First time I used blender for a 2D thing, it's quite flexible and I actually like it over Opentoonz, it didn't lag much when the file got big which is nice :)
- what do I usually put in these notes? its been so long
- this ain't the only version of the animatic, but the only finished one
- worked on this for 2.5 weeks this time, probably 80ish hours? anywho there was a lot of foundation already with the script written and most of it roughed out

all of his "redecorations" are his attempts to recreate spring which she leaves him for but he doesn't understand why it matters like the warmth of and days of spring but with heat and light
Orpheus: and Persephone is blinded...
Persephone: *eyes being burned out by Hades's lightshow*
Orpheus: ...by a river of wine
orph only had so much psychic ability it seems
Persephone's dissappointed faces are so goofy sometimes, I love them!
If she makes her sighs dramatic enough maybe Hades will take the hint

The frame of Persephone at 5:33 has me FERAL because of COURSE the goddess of spring is feeling the affects of her husbands work in the underworld below

I love the almost cyclopean depiction you have for the workers with the helmet light and the mouth being their only "facial features".
I love how box-shaped your Hades design is. He kind of looks like a wall in and of himself!
wow, there are some GORGEOUS visuals in this. winged hermes, persephone's overflow, hades' hall of screens. this is incredible work, i'm happy i caught it so early
How you use the smoke/clouds as something obstructing Orpheus’s view is so cool. Seeing the workers appear that way is great visual storytelling. Also that you so clearly see Persephone’s relationship with nature. She is not unaware of what’s going on, just choosing to ignore it during the summer.
So, in the musical Persephone holds her own coat but you made Hades hold it here, very cute detail
all of this animatic is so good but the bit that really stood out to me was the overlapping of Orpheus and the workers. I’ve never seen anyone address it: he’s indirectly trying to save them, hence them looking over his shoulders at what he’s working on, but he’s also at risk of becoming like them - literally never heard the quiet ‘keep your head low’ after Hermes tells him to look up until now!

I think my favorite thing about all your animatics is the clock, and I love to see it so prominent here! *has only watched the first 30 seconds at the moment due to happy flails*

The expressions between Hades and Persephone specifically are SO TELLING without any actual dialogue. Holy crap- WELL DONE! 😮😊
Your ability to so clearly convey expressions with the absolute minimum of lines is so damn impressive

- I love how proud/excited Hades looks at 0:57, while Persephone just throws her cup in the fire in frustration.
- The dark clouds at 3:28 are so creepy!
- HOLY MOLY! Hermes with wings at 4:08 is BAD@$$!
- Eurydice being really far away and small at 4:51 is so creepy, but so effective!
- THE TRANSITIONS AT 5:25!
- The shot at 5:32 is EPIC!
- The shot at 6:17 is so spooky!
- 6:24 is terrifying.

I absolutely ADORE the expressions in this, especially Persephone (SOO dramatic, but who can blame her?? I'd do the same tbh) and Hades (he is proud of his work but disappointed about his wife's reaction, also he is fucking terrifying in the end, pathetic little capitalist simp)
The movement in the Orphydice section is so dynamic that it's going to make me feral, ALSO YOUR FATES DESIGNS AAAA
The dying candle mimicking Eurydice made me sad and I did this exact face: D:

this whole animatic bamboozled me by how good it was! The best parts were Hades, Persephones expressions... and of course the minion+amogus combined workers, divine creations

the tender way Hades picks up Persephone's coat and folds it. gods. the love was there and it didn't save us. Maybe even doomed us. but the love was there!!! 😭😭😭
I dropped everything omg!! This was so cool! How Persephone is so explosive in her emotions while Hades is so stiff but clearly feeling a lot as well, it was really well shown.

@@unstableturtleduckI recently listened to the soundtrack alone and even that was incredible by itself. The story was easy to follow since it’s a sung through musical and it blew me away.

I love this animatic. I love the detail at the end that Hades was going to show Persephone a garden he made her but when she rejected his inventions one last time he changed his mind and took the key back. ;-; he was trying.

Really love Eurydice and Orpheus' face shapes! Also the way your Hades seems both lovestruck AND so invested into Hadestown it makes him deaf to what Persephone tries to tell him is brilliant! Also - the end!!! Him leaning down, looking at his wife on "...of you"? Is exactly how I imagine Hades-Persephone confrontation ends every time I listen to Chant!

I did happy tappy toes when the Fates showed up. This entire thing is wonderful and so incredibly inspiring, but your design for the Fates is absolutely _unrivalled!_ Ominous and graceful all at once, just amazing!

DUDE. by far this is one of the most incredible, creative, and well thought out animatics I've ever seen. There's so much going on but nearly everything is well balanced and fully realized. This is such a gift, I hope it gets more attention.

I love ur representation of the fates, I imagine them in a similar way. also the "moving" shots in this are so incredible, they give this so much life. you tie all the chaos of the song together well. I loved your ability to slowly build the narrative of the song, until it all finally falls together at the end. I adore the intro angles and jazz. This is weirdly one of my fave songs from the musical and this is such a fun imagining of it. Also Persephone’s faces at “I don’t know you anymore” and just the “it ain’t right” refrain were so choice. AND THE FATES AS MASKS AND SWIRLY SHADOWY FORMS IN THE WIND CORRALLING EURYDICE!!!! So good ❤️

Ever since you released this I haven't been able to stop watching/thinking about it (+ in addition, all of your other hadestown animatics) HAHA . I love your stuff sooooo much! Your work is so masterful and i love love love how you frame things and how expressive your art is! In this specifically, i love the bit with eurydice where she's drawn with less and less lines, like she's actually being blown away because of the wind.
There's sooo many things I could talk about (the unnatural blue light combined with the slight chromatic aberration, persephone in general, hades' strong silhouette especially near the end) but all in all THIS IS CRAZY GOOD!!!!!! Thank you for your hard work!!!!

Ah wow, I've watched this a few times now but if I had to pick a single thing that I love most about this, I'd say it's the focus you put on Hades and his positioning. I really like how you frame him in each shot, the angles and like. For example, at 2:32 and the rest of that scene, it just fits so nicely in visuals and for Hades himself.

Oh my gosh this was beautiful! This is one of my favorite songs of the musical and can I just say I LOVE YOUR INTERPRETATION. THE FACT THAT HADES LOCKED THE DOOR AND POCKETED THE KEY TO "CAGE" PERSEPHONE IS AMAZING. He does so to keep her from leaving, wanting her to stay in his gilded cage, and I am SO IMPRESSED. I also love that Persephone can feel his actions ruining nature and my theory after seeing this is that Hades is intentionally doing it to try to keep her from returning to the outside.
