03 Tahoe Crank but Stalls Part 1
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 5 сен 2024
- This was a last minute call to check out an 03 Chevy Tahoe 5.3ltr cranking but stalls condition. My friend had the truck fully loaded and was about to head out on a camping trip, only to come to find the truck would not stay running. I was asked to diagnose it if I could, but I sure knew I wasn't intending on fixing it, not if it wasn't something quick to do. I'm behind on work.
Part 1 consists of my diagnostic process and pinpointing the issue.
Part 2 consists of my returning and using the scope to collect before repair captures of the fuel pump current. Strictly to get acquainted with my new tool really, but I think it helps "see" the difference of bad versus good. I included the after repair current captures as well, as the pump was done only a of couple days later.

Banging on the fuel tank did the trick. It started right up. Thank you very much!
Now get that fuel pump done before you're stuck! Lol Glad the video helped 😉😁
@@CubasAutomotive That's just what I was thinking. Thanks again.
thank you ....walked out at 4 this morning and my 1999 chevy tahoe wouldnt start and following you she has now started THANK YOU
Awesome! Make sure you replace that fuel pump soon... you're on borrowed time. At least you can do it on your own schedule more so than the Tahoe's. 😉
@@CubasAutomotive yeah time to go out and get muddy gonna have to do it myself
@@D.JKennedy aww that sucks. Hopefully not a frozen tundra like where I'm at. Muddy? Hopefully a plywood board & cardboard sheets will help you stay out of the mud a bit, provide a little stability for a jack, etc. Good luck! 👍🏻
@@CubasAutomotive all of our snow and ice has finely melted ....so now we are a huge muddy pit but the good thing is it will be 50 degrees and not -15

GREATLY appreciate you sharing your process with us Cuba!
Mannnn! Do you know how behind I am? Lol. I did start playing quite a few... but most were just posted. I'm sure I've missed a ton of yours as well! I haven't been online much, which just seemed to change 3 days ago. Lol. 😅😅
Have a great rest of the wknd.... 😊🤗🤗🤗
Nicely done. That was awesome of you to stop on the way to your car show. That’s amazing service. I hope you saved the family trip.
Well, they had a 2nd vehicle to use... so they went. I have a bad habit of saying yes to work. Lol 😅😅 It's much rarer for me to make time to have fun, because when I do, I'm either late or something comes up. #WorkaholicLife 😂😂
Thanks for the comment!!
I ran through everything you did and the kick to my tank caused it to fire right up. Looks like I’m gonna need a new pump. Thanks for the upload!
Sorry I missed this comment... hahahaha, but I love that this helped you. Hopefully got you running if you were stranded. Thanks for the comment! :)
Now that isn't right bother the technician who is going to the car show. Over duty but willing to help a customer this is why Ms. Cuba is awesome.
Hahahaha! You're too kind! It happens! 😊😊😅😅
Awesome Diag Video Cuba. Not sure if you do or not. But carrying a can of brake cleaner or starter fluid with you to give a spray or 2 into the intake manifold or vacuum port of a crank no start will give you very quick direction..... in fact when i get tow in vehicles rather than push it in (yes i know its dangerous lmao) i get my co-worker to spray brake cleaner into the intake while i drive the vehicle in with the hood open and he or i under the hood supplying fuel with the can.. It's a hilarious sight to see. 🤣🤣🤣
Hahaha.. yeah, I didn't have much on me. I did have MAF cleaner, but didn't think it was flammable enough.
Hey! Whatever works to get it in the shop... I've definitely done that, but I tend to avoid the ether. I'm more carb cleaner, just because it's slightly less volatile. 😂😂😅😅 I like the input & suggestions! Thank you Hakim!!
The old whack the tank and it runs diag procedure! Certain vehicles that come in to my shop with a crank no start, it is the first port of call 👌
Great vid, Cuba 👍
I wanted to try that 1st... but then I would've lost the diag process on the vid. Lol... I have lack of vehicle work and too many appliances or PCs at the moment.

Hey cuba I found a fuel gauge test set that has every possible connection, fitting and adapter you could want and think of . It only cost $60 . I use it at work nonstop and Had no issues with it. I think it came from amazon. The numbers are big on the gauge also . Love your videos . I’m also from philly and work off of Southampton rd. & the blvd . I think you bought your red blazer from my boss lol throwback
Wow!! Yeah, my Blazer! My baby! But I bought it from dude in Bensalem, however I did checkout a Blazer right by Southampton. .. some industrial park nearby.
Dang! Small world! I love it!
I'll check it out. If you happen to have the #s off the kit or something, that'd be awesome! The gauge that went that went "wonky" on me in the Altima vid, it's got almost every attachment I can think of... my buddy from Super Mario Diagnostics, has the same one and told me how to fix it. So I "should" be straight... but only time will tell. Lol.
Thanks for the comment!! Made my night! 😊😉
As "hangouts" goes "Bling". It's a pain of you can't trust your gauges but now we know you have a new one. Nice work.
LOL .... yeah, hangouts! I hear them watching Eric O's vids and it always makes me look at my phone, yet while recording, I don't even hear it and completely ignore it. I hope it isn't too distracting.
Yes!! I am glad to have that other gauge sent to me now. I now keep it in the truck!! lol Thanks Wyatt!!
@@CubasAutomotive Not distracting at all, just funny.
nice work. I love when a pump comes back to life with a few hits on the tank...DIAG DONE!! LOL
Lol! Yeah... still glad I didn't smack the tank 1st, otherwise I would've had nothing to record. Lol. I wish I had my scope before I smacked it though. 🙁😞
My 03 Tahoe is stalling out while I'm driving! Changed fuel pump and STILL DOING IT! My air filter is filthy. Vacuumed it out and grabbing a new one in the morning. Need GM tool to release fuel filter too. Will try swapping fuses and check codes too.
I would also check throttle body for cleanliness. If there's too much buildup on the butterfly blade the pcm has trouble keeping the correct idle or air flow. I hope that helps.
@@CubasAutomotive Thanks. I qill! Wh3n i get up around noon. Love my Saturdays
Nice diag Cuba...sometimes the best diagnostic method is tapping or beating on things 😂
This is very true!! Thanks Hayward!!
Like the new addition of a scope/scan tool , to the arsenal . Verus a solid tool still , you will find it useful for many test . Quick and mobile great for out in field . Good video .
Yes!! That was my MAIN reason for wanting to get one, the "all in one unit"... but even the used ones were out of my budget for the last couple years.
I LOVE my Pico though, but portability is key for mobile. My work truck is down at the moment, so working out of a pickup, everything needs to be space saving. Loving the Verus so far... still fumbling my way around the scope portion of it though. I'll get there.

I'll be rewatching Paul Danner's series on the Verus scope. I remember it also being quite good. I appreciate the link! You're awesome!
Cuba's Automotive just keep in mind , a fast screen time and zoom out . Like 10 to 20 ms it’s strange I’m sure , after using the pico which you are zooming in to get the detail . Snapon gives you it best detail with the shorter screen time , then zoom out . Not as good your pico , but useful in a pinch .
@@theautomotivedoctormr.wils9217 yes, I did notice that, which I started grasping towards the end of Part 2 of this Tahoe job. I have a Vantage, but it's already been so long since I've used it, just because Pico is more intuitive. I used to pull out the Vantage if specifically testing a component.
I hope you're able to get your Pico 1 day soon. But hold out for the 4425 if you can... lol. I know you're quite knowledgeable with scopes in general, you won't be as happy with the 4423. 😉😉

with my luck it would end up being pin fitman issue....the old "bang on the tank" always forces me to scope the fuel pump for a clean state of health/or fail.....the closer to 100% I get. the less crying I hear...
oh yea, that Volvo that got shot and died....I got about 1/2 the footage so far....
Yes! I really wished I hadn't banged on the tank until after I scoped it. .... but I'm confident in my call. I'm would've loved to has "seen" it though. I did go back the next day and took captures, but pump was still functioning then. 😑😒 The before & after captures are what I'm uploading now... and my thoughts.

Great video....normally of you pump your feet in the pedal she start no?
No, not in this case... I did try that for the heck of it, but that was before I started recording too. Pump would not build any pressure at 1st. Truck was starting due to the fumes, in my opinion, as it was over 100F that day. I also trying part throttle in case it was TPS issue or something.

The best thing to do is look at live data. Specifically MAF, coolant temp sensors, O2s, Fuel trims (long & short), & you must compare when it's running great to when it's dropping. The live data should point you in the right direction. I hope that helps.
@@CubasAutomotive any idea on how I would be able to look at the data do I need a specific tool?
@@BRED23 you need at least a shop level tool, not necessarily have bidirectional controls but good enough to see it on graph mode. Typically between $500 to 1k. Or have a friend lend you one? Painful to watch
Hey cutie
Hello sir! Thanks for the compliment!
Ok a Tahoe video with a Ford as the lead in. Come on now. Gotta make another lead in shot in front of a Chevy/GMC for when doing those. Lol 😂😅😂😅😂😅
Ahhhh... at 1st I thought you were talking about my Blue Chevy Pickup...but you're right, that Bronco as my intro pic. Lol. Oooops! Lol 😂😂😂 Do love my Chevys though!
@@CubasAutomotive Rocking a 04 I bought new Jan 15, 05 and still have. 128k miles. No fuel pressure. Not a fun pump to change especially in winter with the top fuel line rusted and fuel being shot out line.
They're not cheap pumps either plus labor to change it.
Your Verus won't allow you to do the "Pre-Scan and Post Scan"? I don't know if that's a Verus option but I know the ADS-625 and the Zeus.
Wish I could make super Saturday. Need plane ticket and/or rental car plus hotel... hmm my brains starting to tick now....
Maybe I should start a Go Fund Me for Super Saturday... Lol.... To much house stuff going on probably won't be able to get away if I want the oversize 3rd stall with car hoist built onto the house by winter.
@@dtnel I didn't see that option on the Verus... but it's still new to me. I've been using the Launch mostly and used to the "health report" or similar. Maybe it's only certain models. ... I'll continue to play with it.
3rd bay with oversized door! Jealous! Sorry I missed these comments. I wasn't notified, just happen to read through. 😕
