Im so happy heppell is in this team. My greatest wish would be for him to star in a premiership with bombers, you couldnt think of someone who deserves it more
Heppell sorting out his foot issues with surgery a few years back has made a huge difference to his fitness & impact. Really impressed we have Dyson 2.0 with this young team.
Laverde is a B for me, been better than Perkins honestly and taking on every challenge as a mid sized defender and gives it everything every single week
@morkusmorkus6040 I am not a fan of Lavarde but he has been good lately. Wonder if he would be in the side if Reid and Baldwin were fit. Shiel is long way off his best. Not really sure whether he has lost his mojo. Even when he came as a sub he was below par and looked like he was shying away from contest.
@@everythingessendon548 Laverde is so brutal at the ball, i love his aggression and intent. I hope he stays in the side for WHEN WE WIN THAT FINAL!!!
Agree. He has his moments where he'll drop an easy uncontested mark in the goal square & oppo kicksca goal. But he's got a bit of fire & for the most part reliable. Perkins should be playing forward only. He ain't a runner with his low Cake Hooker like small knee lifts vs his great vertical leap & goal kicking accuracy.
A lot of people knocking Tsatas...he is still only 19 and his first year at club was lost to injury. He is kicking isnt always great but its not terrible. I watched him absolutely dominate a few vfl games as a inside mid, i think he just needs time to get bigger and stronger and work on his disposal.
He looks to me as though he is very low on confidence. I am 100% certain he is good enough to play at the AFL level, but he hasn't had a decent run in the team to really give him a chance. I noticed him at one point the other night declining to pass to someone leading to the boundary and his face had this anguished look on it, as though he were worried he'd be lambasted for it. I reckon he just needs someone to say, "You've got five weeks straight in the first team, and not as the sub, no matter how you play. We believe in you, so show us what you can do."
You know what makes me happy? The fact that I don't look at any of the players on that vid and think, 'God i wish that person was not on our list'. It feels like the first year in 5 that i can say that.
Pretty spot on for me. Wright a big let down, particularly with marking - gets plenty of opportunity and hardly takes any grabs. Martin is good, although disposal is either brilliant or terrible with not a lot in between (but will likely only get better and knows how to find the ball). More of the team need to be as dedicated and hungry as Merrett, and hold the ball like he does until a viable disposal presents or can be created!
Nic Martin is a legitimate A+ player on the wing and up fwd but he’s probably a C- at half back. Brad Scott is wasting him. He’s a bad field kick, turns the ball over too much to be back there.
i reckon he's trying to do what the coaches are asking him to: take on really piercing kicks that open up play when they come off. i just hope they decide to start using him better, like you and everyone else can see...
Couldnt agree more. They have to find someone who can replace him, maybe cox, back there permanently. He can't seem to find an option for kick out when facing a static zone. Compare that when he is running on the outside of the field in transition and the zone from both teams is in motion he seems to be able to place the ball like a laser beam on anyone
Great summation F. Interesting to note that our centre clearance stats were so much better earlier in the season when we were playing both Goldy and Drapes. And also D. Parish there. Drapes adds an intangible to the team that actually makes them better. Its called enthusiasm! I rate him higher.
They were also playing worse teams with bounce. There's been some incredible inside mids they have lost to, though to be fair, they have overhwlemed some really good ones too.
I think with the younger player’s you need to leave them in for consistency and to build confidence, if they are high end they obviously have a solid skill set (Tsatas, Hobbs, Cox,)
McKay is an A, he has really solidified the backline. Even though he doesnt get a lot of the ball hes always spoiling the opposition entries. Ridley would be a B, IMHO you cant get an A from 3 matches. Id have Laverde as a B, hes just a consistent presence and being a durable player is worth its weight in gold. Elijah Tsatas is a tough one, how do you rate a young player off about 60 minutes of total footy? He had as many disposals against Carlton in 10 mins as Harry Jones had in a whole match. And Stringer I would say is a C based on his abilities, he had a few bright moments but hasnt put them together for an extended spell of good form which youd expect from a player of his calibre
Ben McKay is doing more perhaps what’s perceived he’s exactly what we were in desperate need of I think he’s been as good as any play bar Zach Merrett And I don’t know if it’s a little early to say but I feel Nic Martin has been a bit lack luster in defence
Agree with most of this. Perkins has to be lower though. He shows up one game in 6. Would rather Hobbs. Cox and Lav maybe rated a little low. Thanks for the year so far!
Reckon both Hepp and Mckay are B+, they've been incredibly consistent and Caldwell has to be at least an A-. Hind I'd say is some recency bias and I'd downgrade to a B-, Gresham upgrade to a B. Otherwise pretty much agree. I'd bump Laverde up too but his constant brain fades just undo too much of his good work so C+ is sadly accurate.
Jye's an A for me, just so much heart this guy, Tsatas a D, can barely kick, and lacks confidence, how he gets a game instead of jnr is anyone's guess. Laverde tries hard so agree with you. 2MP is cooked, trait bait? Nick Martin... too many turnovers so its a B+
I personally like Perkins in the high half forward role, he is a dangerous goal kicker. With Pete, when draper is back we will see a big up tick in performance. Looks exhausted when he has to ruck.
My frustration with Kelly is when we play him in defence he's been A he had 6 weeks when he played the opposite small forward and was fantastic but not in defence D
Another great vid. I strongly believe Wright needs to go back to the vfl to find form, he's running under the ball or getting bodied off it, I'd rather caddy be given a chance, his attack on the ball is genuine, Wright is questionable
I'm happy to say i disagree with pretty much every mark. For a team sitting 3rd on the ladder, i reckon pretty much ever player needs to be bumped up a full grade. Including Merrett and Durham. They shoud get 'S's. (except for Tstatas: tsorry mate, keep working at it...)
When you said Cox and Hobbs were high draft picks I said "were they?" I think including the draft position of the players in this like you do with the vfl would be a good idea.
I still reckon we should’ve pick’d Phillipou he’s not doing well at the moment, but if he was on our team he would be playing VFL with caddy and all the other yonder boys building chemistry Tsatas is a terrible kick and can’t take contact at all he’s soft ASF you don’t train yourself out of that I’d be going after Harley and making Tastas a part of that deal.
Peter wiright can not take an overhead mark we need Sam Weiss man in the line up mb guys didn’t know he was suspended anyway when he is back or even harry jones plays full forward wright we need MORE !
The coaches need to pull their heads in. Wright needs a spell in the 2's and told to lift his game or else. Nothing positive is coming out of Tsatas being sub all the time and not developing. Kelly is a defender or delisted. Draper really needs to come on, or we look elsewhere, too inconsistent and too injury prone, plus he's off with the fairies a lot of the time. Martin wing/forward. It's honestly like self sabotage with our coaches sometimes. Get Caddy in and leave him in, again it seems like self sabotage. How can we see sooooo many young players being developed in the AFL and most of our young recruites are being passed up for players that will not be in our next flag, or are horribly out of form, yet they still languish in the 2's, also Essendon's high end picks, after 4 years MUST start stamping themselves on the league and not be average players, or the flack that Dodoro cops will continue to circle. 20 years of high end picks, and no flag, final win, or contesting.
So you rate Cox the same as Tsatas??? And Alwyn Davey better than Cox??? Cannot agree with your ratings for Cox (should be higher) and especially Alwyn Davey (should be lower). But a great summary overall :)
Based on expectations, Tsatas is only in his 2nd year so it is hard to be too critical, once he has played a couple of more seasons I will judge him more harshly.
@everythingessendon548 mate we can't develope top picks for shit. McGrath had only just come good in my opinion and tsatas has become a worse kick since joining us.
I give your channel an A+ mate
Hind is an absolute work horse
he's an improvement on McKenna: the Lions can keep him i reckon...
Im so happy heppell is in this team. My greatest wish would be for him to star in a premiership with bombers, you couldnt think of someone who deserves it more
He is only getting better with age.

Was considering bumping his grade up a bit, especially after some impressive performances recently.
Totally agree. I've never been his biggest fan but he has been giving his all and consistently doing his job quite well.

Jones as a C+ is VERY generous

Mason Red(and black)man hasn't been the same since he cut his hair.
