Harold Bradley (yes, THAT Harold Bradley) on guitar, "Pig" Robbins on the piano, Bob Moore on the stand up bass, (and Buddy Spicher on fiddle)....playing with Chuck Mead of BR549...oh to be a fly on the wall of those sessions!
Maybe baritone, more likely Tic-Tac Bass; a Danelectro or Fender Bass XI played with a pick for an extra clicky sound. Used on 50's and 60's country (and some rock) records to get the bass to read better on little battery-powered solid state radios, the forerunners of the Sony Walkman.

So how does the guitarist get that sound at 0:51 ??? Is he detuned? Slapback? Reverb? It sounds so rowdy...just like the Johnny Horton version.
