** A big thank you to all of you who sent me best wishes during my illness in March and April 👍 Just to say I am 100% better now 😃 Can I please ask a favour too - if you leave a comment, please don't mention where I'm going this year. I would like people to be surprised when they watch this video - thanks 🙂**
Such a terrible time you had with your chest infection, its what i fear... getting a chest infection. Had one years ago and felt as though i was dying! It was extremely scary ! Glad your stronger now, rest up and take care. Thankyou for all you do in making our favourite vlogs for us !
Many thanks Anna, I've never had a chest infection before, so along with the flu it was a pretty rough few weeks. Thankfully it's all behind me now, so looking forward to getting out there again. Thanks for all your kind words and for your support 👍😀
Very sorry to hear about your continuing health struggles Patrick, it sounds like you have really been through the ringer. If I may be so bold as to offer you some advice, be sure to take things VERY slowly during your recovery. I have had direct personal experience of serious lung inflammation, and it can leave your physical capabilities far below what you were used to, for quite a long period of time. Regular, but very gentle exercise can help with rehabilitation, but it is important to exercise caution. As we are moving into the summer months, both the temperature and humidity can pose problems. Be careful when it comes to over exerting yourself on hot days, particularly if the air is very dry. Very humid days can also cause breathing issues, especially when it is really muggy with a lot of cloud cover and very little wind. It is sometimes even necessary to give the 11-3 window from late morning to early afternoon a miss altogether. I know as an outdoorsy person that it can be very hard to resist the temptation to head out, but your complete recovery can be slower and more problematic if you push too hard too soon. I hope that none of what I have said has caused you any offense Patrick. It was not meant in a patronizing or lecturing way, but is coming from a position of experience, and my only wish is to be of as much help to you as I could in the difficult situation that you have found yourself in. I have found that daily walking, at a very gentle pace, even if only for a short distance, is the best starting point for recovery. Hills and climbs can pose more difficulty, especially if you are carrying any weight on your back. But you will only be able to guage this as it happens. As you improve, if you find a more challenging walk posing problems, then slow your pace, and take lots of little rests. They really make all the difference. And every day, you will slowly be returning to full health. But it is definitely a process which takes a lot of time and patience. Sometimes, the hardest part is having the discipline to get out and do today's little bit if you are feeling rough, and your spirits are low. But trust me, it will be worth it in the end. Here's to your full recovery Patrick, and again, I hope I have not offended you, or crossed a line. Wishing you the very best. Kindest regards, Martin.
Thanks Martin for all your advice and words of support, much appreciated. I have fully recovered now, but my plans this year, with the odd exception, are mainly to film non-strenuous walks, so we'll see how things pan out. I've got it all spread throughout the year anyway, so all being well it will work out fine for me. All the best 👍
Glad to hear you are on the mend Patrick. Good luck for all the Wye valley adventures, its been a few years since I last went down that way but used to go a couple of times a year rock climbing. Look after yourself
Hi Harrison, thanks for that, I'm 100% better now. The Wye Valley and Forest of Dean is indeed a great area, good to know you've been down that way yourself. Thanks for your support, all the best 👍
Hi Patrick . Sorry you had a rough ride. Me and hubby can't seem to get rid of this cough . Hope you start improving now and look forward to the vids coming out . Take care lv Ali/R x
Morning Patrick, glad to hear that you are much better now, nothing worse than a chest infection to bring you to a stop in life. The channel will wait always. Take it easy on your return, don't over do things ! All the best - Steve. P.S. amazing picture quality on the video :o)
I'm sorry to hear you have been unwell Patrick. People say 'I've had the flu' but they've had a heavy cold. You know when you've had the flu. It is nasty isn't it. I hope you are recovering or recovered by now. O2 on a nasal canula and IV antibiotics saved the day. It can be a game changer, that's for sure. I can appreciate that it will make you feel low in mood. As for the channel Patrick, I follow you and your hikes. I only hike in the Peaks but I love watching hikes from all over the UK and the world. So I'll be watching every video. It is nice to revisit old stomping grounds.
Thanks Chris. I recently said to Linda that I've always had a very good sick record in work and have been ill very few times over the years, and then within a few days of saying that I went down with all this! I'll keep my mouth shut in future 😁 All 100% again now so glad it's all behind me. This year will be a good challenge for me, so we'll see how it all pans out, but I'm looking forward to getting done what I can. Thanks as always Chris for all your support, much appreciated 👍
Sorry to hear you have been poorly, myself and Wendy are both bad at the moment with similar symptoms, seems to be rife at the moment. Looking forward to your new walks but obviously your health comes first ,take care
Patrick, can we hear some more life stories from you? The story about your dad and the keyboard, Anne, the royal oak date etc Loved hearing those on your older videos. Also, show us your accommodations like you used to! As always, good to see a video from you!
Many thanks Louis. I will talk about things in relation to where I end up this year, but I won't go as deeply as I've done in the past, i.e. my Dad, as I think I said too much there bearing in mind I share it publicly on RUclips. I also don't want to detract too much from my walks, but I'm sure I will find some appropriate tales to tell 👍😀
Morning Patrick, sorry to hear how poorly you have been, what a rough few weeks you certainly had but glad you are feeling alot better 😊 take it easy and you are right your health definitely comes first. Have a good restful weekend!
So sorry to hear that you’ve been really poorly. Hopefully slowly on the mend now & the weathers improving, finally! Really looking forward to see your forthcoming videos. Take care
Hi Patrick, so glad you’re on the mend now. Sounds like you be been through it 🙁 Looking forward to seeing your new videos as they come out. Take care 👍🏻
Hello Patrick , We are sorry to hear that you had the flu it sure hung around for while, but now sounds like you are back in gear. Looking forward to the summer videos as you know that part of the world is deep in my heart being born in Newent , who knows maybe I will run into you I will be there myself in Newent also Monmouth maybe have a pint in the Robin Hood Pub I believe its one of the oldest pub around . Thanks for the update all the best from Vancouver Island .
Thanks Shaun, having the chest infection and flu was not a good time I'll admit, but thankfully I can now say I'm 100% better. Ah yes I recall you mentioned before about being born in Newent. I'm not planning on going there this year, but I am hoping to film a walk at May Hill. I hope to return to Monmouth in October as I've got somewhere booked for a couple of nights, so I'll see how my projects work out this year. All the best 👍
So pleased you are feeling better Must have been very scary for you feeling so breathless and unwell. It makes you appreciate how fortunate you are when you are out walking and able to enjoy our wonderful countryside. Looking forward to your next walk
Patrick. I had that really bad flu for 8 weeks a couple of months ago. It put me in bed for the first 2 days of it as it hit me like a train. Its the worst flu I've ever had. Everyone seems to be getting it.
Brilliant your heading back home for filming this year Patrick (beautiful part of the world ) And brilliant your feeling better mate (these things definitely come out of the blue ) good to see you looking well 🙏🏼 ATB Simon🤠👍
Glad to hear you're on the mend. I think it's a weird virus because my nephew caught it and it changed to pneumonia. Luckily he's fine now. I'm really looking forward to you returning to the forest of Dean. I know it's your personal favourite and holds lots of memories for you. Look after yourself and cheers for the update Patrick 😊
Thanks Kelly. I wondered if I had pneumonia too, but thankfully it wasn't. It was bad enough though, but at least it's behind me now. Glad your nephew has recovered. I'm looking forward to my travels this year, so we'll see how it all works out. Thanks Kelly for all your support, all the best 👍
Sending you lots of healing Patrick. So sad to hear you’ve been ill and been in hospital. My mum who watches your channel aswell would like to ask what you thought of the hospital food? That’s if you could stomach anything at the time. Sending you continued healing and please look after yourself :)
Thank you Abbie, and to your mum too. I'm 100% better now. The hospital food was horrible, thankfully my taste buds weren't at their best! The weetabix for breakfast was my favourite meal 😁 Thanks for all your support, all the best 👍
Bloody hell Patrick you have had it rough, glad to hear you're well on the mend, we'll look forward to discovering a new area with you, all the best mate.
Sorry to hear about your woes Patrick, flu is not nice at all. I'm looking forward (not),,,,, to a total knee replacement in a weeks time, so I'll be out of action for around eight weeks, just have to keep doing my physio exercises lol! The Forest of Dean is lovely, as of course you know. Keep up the good work.
Nice to learn you're coming here again.. I'll keep an eye out for you! I've been inspired sufficiently to purchase a CJI osmo action 4. But, I have a lot to understand before producing anything like your videos.
Nice one Hugh, thanks for that. I've always used a Sony camcorder, but I guess I like to stick with what I know and like. I'm looking forward to coming down your way again in a week's time 👍
You really have been through the mill, Patrick. What an ordeal you really have had, with a month off work it must have been really serious for you to have had hospital attention. Never mind anything else, your health matters, and both myself and my partner wish for you to have a more promising year than of late. Please keep well.
It was not nice Ffranc I'll admit, but thankfully it's in the past now and I can get on with life again 😁 Many thanks for your support and all the best 👍
Hi Patrick. It sounds like your cough is still with you. Such a shame all your plans cancelled and re-arranged. A good idea booking through an agent that allows you short notice cancellations. I agree with you it isn't worth putting your health at risk to go ahead when something is not right. We usually stay at Premier Inn too. That apartment sounds a nice idea, helpful to mention the booking outlet. Thanks for taking the trouble giving an update video explaining your ordeals over the last few weeks. All best for full recovery soon.🤕
Morning Shanita, yes the cough was still with me when I made this video a month ago, but thankfully I can report I am 100% better now. Fortunately, I didn't have to cancel too much, it was just the few days in Gloucester Premier Inn that I lost over the Easter holiday, which had a knock-on effect for my list of walks to film this year. Therefore, I've just had to reschedule, and in a few cases, cancel some of the walks. Hopefully everything else I've got in the pipeline for this year will go according to plan. Booking.com is a great website to use as that's where I've found the best deals for places to stay, firstly for the cheaper cost and secondly for the quality of the accommodation. I used Booking.com when I arranged my digs in the North Pennines last year, so I definitely recommend it. Thanks Shanita for your great comments as always and for your support. All the best 👍
Nothing worse than a chest infection and flu on top of that. I an stopping at Speech House in the Forest of Dean in December for my cousins wedding. I am also out next week 21st and 22nd May on the Gritstone Trail. Hopefully weather holds out. Nice to see you back on the good old youtube 👌
Thanks Gavin, for a man who recently said he doesn't get ill often, it sure got its revenge on me after saying that! 😁 All behind me now anyway. Wow Speech House, a lovely place to stop for a wedding. I was near there back in March filming a walk. Good luck with the Gritstone Trail, must try that myself sometime. All the best 👍
Chest infections can take a while to clear and 4 weeks of it, including a hospital stay, would really sap your mental and physical energy levels. The weather hasn't helped either because it's been cool and damp for so long. Hopefully the warmer sunnier weather now will enable full recovery and recharge those batteries down in the Forest of Dean.
It was indeed a horrible few weeks, but at least it's all behind me now thanks. I'm looking forward to some better weather too. Thanks for all your comments and for your support 👍
Hey..ive been rough as a badger..but i hear alot are..chin up bro & thinking of you..i haven't much faith in my doctors... Blimey..at the end it says your name..it looked like an end of a film with a birth date & end date..phew
Others have said there's a lot of illnesses going round lately. I'm much better now anyway thanks. Haha I put my name in the credits at the end of all my films. Glad you realised it wasn't what you initially thought! 👍😁
I really do hope you're 100% when you come down next Patrick. Flu is awful mate - I've had flu the kind where your skin hurts even. I look forward to the series from March. But mate you know what I'm going to ask. I'd like to say hello and have a cuppa. I won't get in your way but I've known you many years now and we gotta hook up some time. I'll come to the valley if you're up for that. I'll message you on facebook. Well, take care out there. Mark
Hey Mark, much better now thanks. The flu along with the chest infection was horrible, so I'm glad it's all behind me now. Looking forward to getting back out there, so we'll see how this year goes. Don't worry Mark, I've had you in my mind right from the very start of my planning for this year 😀 I've already touched briefly in a bit of the Wye Valley back in March, but the next few months I'm planning to film walks around the FoD and surrounding area closer to the Severn. However, if all goes to plan, by the beginning of September I'll get back to the Wye Valley a lot more. At the moment, I've got myself booked in a B&B in Monmouth at the start of October, so I was thinking if you might be free sometime around then, we could sort something out. It would be great to catch up with you. All the best 👍
@@solitaryrambler Good to hear you're much better Patrick - what a relief when a bug of this kind finally passes. Sounds like a big program of filming - I wish you the best. Re-October we'll keep it open booked. It's a fair distance away. Well, have a great weekend. Peace.
Yeah I've set myself quite a task this year Mark, but it's a challenge I'll enjoy. Start of October is a fair distance, but by then I'll have hopefully done what I want to do, then it would be good to catch up whilst still in the area. All the best 👍
I’m glad you are going to the Forest of Dean, and the wye valley,it looks such an beautiful place.i hope you are feeling better soon,it sounds you have had it rough.you have got to look after yourself, your health is more important.take care.sending hugs to you.👍👍❤️❤️❌
Hi Shane, it's a beautiful place indeed, it's where I spent most of my younger days. I'm much better now thanks, looking forward to getting out there again 👍

Wye Valley! Can't wait!
Thanks 👍
Crumbs. That sounds bad. Glad you're on the road to a full recovery👍
It was bad indeed, but it's all behind me now. Thanks for your comments and for your support 👍
Glad your on mend buddy 👍
Thanks for your support Jay, much appreciated 👍
@@solitaryrambler All the best with the program Patrick - a busy schedule. We may hook up then. Peace.
Not to be taken the wrong way but if the il-health led to you becoming slimmer, Patrick, it has served to make you look younger.
Many thanks! Linda said I had lost weight too, but I must admit I've not seen any difference. Anyway thanks for your kind words 👍😀
I’m glad you are going to the Forest of Dean, and the wye valley,it looks such an beautiful place.i hope you are feeling better soon,it sounds you have had it rough.you have got to look after yourself, your health is more important.take care.sending hugs to you.👍👍❤️❤️❌
