Correction....... This recording was performed by the 1996 Blue Devils Hornline featuring Roger Carter on set. This performance was on G Bugles and by 2000, BD was on Bb horns. Trust me...I was there to experience the transition. Much respect to you and the original members that played this song.
ah finally the real info. thank you. I've been tryign to find a full copy of this recording, i've only had this one song's recording, and though I got it in the 90s, it was late 90's and I wasn't sure when the recording was made just that it was the 92 show's arrangement and still on the glorious G horns. Drum and bugle corps, not drum and brassline corps. There's a reason it was called hornline not brassline then, the whole transition was a very sad affair for DCI. Of course all the indoor smoking bans also sadly greatly hurt many corps' due to fundraising methods that were hurt. The corps I marched in the 90s closed its doors in the last decade because they were 99% supported by Bingo hall revenues, and people don't play bingo for long if they have to go outside to smoke, especially old ladies lol. A lot of corps in the 90s and before were supported in this way or very similarly (division ii and iii anyway) to keep tour fees down for the members so they could maintain a good membership without income restrictions, and still not skimp on things. //mourning
Phantom Regiment and the Blue Devils each have the passion of Drum Corps. That is why no matter where they go it's like family to them. You can just feel the sensation in thier music. Phantom Regiment and the Blue Devils have the best horn lines in the world!
@Bangurdead25 I absolutely agree. I got a chance to be part of the Blue Devils B Contra line this past year, and watching shows right up close. Absolute.Chills.
Thanks man, I enjoy listening to it everytime its played. Now its goose bumps on this side of the horn if you know what I mean. Or as Jerry Seawright put it, "ducky bumps".
We all have the fucking Cadets to thank for the Bb horns. I wish a few directors would admit to the truth that G horns are the only way to go for drum corps and go back!
@uubboy14 G's are lower toned, but much more louder, and apparently harder to tune. The reason why everyone wants them to go back to G's is because they literally melt your face off. I've had the pleasure of marching them in the Blue Stars a while ago, they are fun. But, unfortunately Bb's are in the picture now, which unless you're watching Carolina Crown, there is a difference in sound.
@DUVALDALLASFAN A Drum Corp is very similar to a band in the sense that they perform field shows, where they differ is that Drum Corps only marches brass and percussion as opposed to brass, wood winds, and percussion. Also, the activity takes place during summer with camps usually starting around this time of year and it's a lot more intense, all of the Corps strive for nothing less than perfection.
I kinda agree with the whole G horn thing. They def felt nice. But if this can't happen ever again, I think they should at least be playing Kanstul Mariachi horns on the feels. They sound scary close to a G Bugle on the field.
@MarineBugler DCI doesn't need anymore money :P that's why there aren't as many corps don't exist anymore because of the costs lol. BUT I WOULD LOVE THIS TOO! :) that would be awesome :D
@MarineBugler I agree this, was so much better when they played this balls to the wall in 92. Their 92 show is one of my favorites, and that's saying a lot seeing as I'm an SCV guy lol.
I consider myself a musician not just a woodwind/string player... because to section myself off from this ear sex....would be a crime against humanity. by the way, i came twice during the duration of the video....
@jonathancraik14 This is definitely using Gs. listen to the pap they are churning out in the 2009 version of this. This is so much better and sounds completely different.
This is 1992. I've had the audio recording of this since the 90s, note for note, flourish for flourish. These people either weren't there or haven't listened to this exact recording as many times over the years as I have. It is NOT on trumpets, it is not from this century even.
All of you saying these are trumpets need to get your hearing checked. I was there AT this performance (watching from another corps) in 92 and I have had the recording of this exact performance in this video before DCI ever swapped from G bugles in the first place and this recording is not even 1 note different to the squeal at the end. This is indeed from 1992 and played on G horns. I am a native trumpet player, but drum corps will NEVER sound as good on trumpets as it did on these horns. The sound just isn't as rich.
Just to put some of the speculation to rest, this was recorded on G bugles in 1996 for the season preview CD. Roger Carter is playing drum set. It was recorded pre-season in a quad area at Diablo Valley College next door to Concord in Pleasant Hill. Some of the other parts of that CD were recorded across the street from the BD corps hall. I was there playing baritone in this horn line. There were still several 92 vets in this hornline, myself included.
@DuvalFAN.....MB is an excuse to get out of PE. Drum Corps is a way of life. MBs are usually boring and unlistenable to a trained ear....a worldpclass Corps can SHOOT THE LIGHTS OUT in a packed NFL Stadium. Traditional corps derive military tradition and SOPs from their initial Civil War origins. Artistry and human expression are equally paramount. People I have marched drum corps alongside that went on to the military report that basic training was "a joke" compared to "12&12s" common to West Coast pre-season training (That's 12hrs reh...12hrs rest...rpt...8days a wk for ~90days depending on progress...members get 1 day every 14days for laundry and a lil free-time if it is earned). MBs practice 0period or after school on avg 1hr/day. They play at hs football games where no one in attendance is there to see them. Drum Corps play at competitive shows usually held in college/univ/NFL stadiums for 1,000 to 60,000 fans who are ALL THERE to see/hear them. Anyone can join a MB....prospective members of top6 Corps must beat 100s or 1000s of equally talented competitors to get a coveted "open drill spot" ....that or are so talented they get invited to join. On tour, corps members sign autographs....during football season, MBs get knocked-around, spit on, degraded, ranks broken, made fun of....etc. Corps defend themselves, their, buddies, there uniforms, their equipment and their ranks with a zero-tolerance policy. The 1000s of hours of reh. each year get reemebered by ONE 10.5 minute recording ....their final performance at their respective world championship. As a corps member....I was respected, honored, dignified and shocked by what 120 people can accomplish with a shared conscious goal. As a member of the Cal Poly MB, our visit to UNV was marked by UNV fans on the visitor-side blocking my access to the restrooms, getting beer-bottles thrown at me....and a 5yr old girl whose father most-likely told her to "tell that man in the white uniform to f--- off" (and raise THIS finger at him). This behavior towards a uniformed musician at a corps show would be unthinkable.
@Tapper7 You've never watched the top programs that compete in BOA I would wager. Avon, William Mason, Tarpon Springs, almost every program from Texas are all great programs to watch. As an educator who teaches marching band and has marched in top finalist and championship drum corps, I take offense to your first sentence. We physically challenge the kids in the program I work with and they get more out of our rehearsals during the season than they would in any sport or PE program in the school. That isn't because the sporting or PE programs in the school are bad, our kids just want to be challenged to the highest level possible. Saying marching bands are boring and not listenable is insulting not just to myself and other educators, but also the students who maximize the time we are able to rehearse with what restrictions we have. I have been fortunate to be with programs throughout my years that never got pushed around by anyone at the school because they know they would have to deal with the whole group if they messed with one of us. I find your statement to be lacking in facts and is an insult to the entire marching activity.
Did this guy really just say Drum Corps is hard than basic? I don't know about you but I don't of anyone who has been shot with rubber bullets while on tour with with a drum corps
Man, whoever is screaming knows how to do it!! 1:29 and the end note gave me chills!!

I would do anything to march/witness this era of drum corps
Always so amazing. I look back to this Madison show as a highlight of drum corps. So many great years!
I think 0:00 to the end is awesome. :D
fantastic!!! Bring back the days when Devils played music not just rhythm.
Phantom Regiment and the Blue Devils each have the passion of Drum Corps. That is why no matter where they go it's like family to them. You can just feel the sensation in thier music. Phantom Regiment and the Blue Devils have the best horn lines in the world!
i love G horns. I miss soprano so damn much. I miss DCM the most actually haha
I can't get enough of this
Best sound ever!!!
Definitely a favorite!!!
@Bangurdead25
I absolutely agree. I got a chance to be part of the Blue Devils B Contra line this past year, and watching shows right up close.
Absolute.Chills.
I'm a tuba player myself, but I do love the sound of Drum Corps. Their basslines are amazing!
I see a like button but where is the LOVE button!!
High F trumpet scream at 1:28... There are no words to describe...
私は、1996年のBDのメンバーです。
この録音にも参加してました。
懐かしいです!
HOLY SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful...
Thanks man, I enjoy listening to it everytime its played. Now its goose bumps on this side of the horn if you know what I mean. Or as Jerry Seawright put it, "ducky bumps".
yes please and thank you
Does not get any better!
im glad that they play black music. i just wish they would play alot more black music. and if they ever do it'll be stuff like this
I believe this was a recording from 2003, meaning Bb horns were used not G so yeaha...
It's a studio recording from their 2000 season.
So warm. so in tune. Nice tone. What not to like?
Eargasm
Aaaahhhh.... that's the stuff.....
This was the version on the 96/97 preview CD, right? I remember this and Ditty, and Squib Cakes, and MacArthur Park. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT
@DUVALDALLASFAN A Drum Corp is very similar to a band in the sense that they perform field shows, where they differ is that Drum Corps only marches brass and percussion as opposed to brass, wood winds, and percussion. I want theeeeeeese blue devils back!
And definetly on Bb horns.
WOOO!
Mellos at 0:57. Nuff said. Represent
1:25-1:32 makes me happy.
This is my life song
*WAMLAW.* The year 1992: The finals show because of the soprano lip trill. 'Nuff said.
omfg so cool:D
I kinda agree with the whole G horn thing. They def felt nice. But if this can't happen ever again, I think they should at least be playing Kanstul Mariachi horns on the feels. They sound scary close to a G Bugle on the field.
1:24-1:30...Nevermind,0:00-2:01
this is why i love being a brass player.
trumpets nuff said
Let me clarify that this was Scott dean era
最高!!
ブルーが一番w
proud to be a mello...
in 09 they played this as part of their encore.
@metroguy109 I much prefer the edge in the sound of the G bugles to the current B-flat horns.
I need the notes for the trumpet part right now!
@forrest822 they are a lot louder if you play them right
A video with no dislikes, the way 75% of the videos on here should be -.-
I know what you're saying but BD still plays this occasionally.
btw. Still awesome!
i wonder if there is sheet music anywhere for this?????????
Would somebody tell me what the difference is between a G bugle and any other ol' trumpet? I'm confused
@MarineBugler DCI doesn't need anymore money :P that's why there aren't as many corps don't exist anymore because of the costs lol. BUT I WOULD LOVE THIS TOO! :) that would be awesome :D
@RockstarDaniel lol i figured that much i just didnt know the difference in sound
help im confused!! what the difference between G horns and Bb???
@MarineBugler I agree this, was so much better when they played this balls to the wall in 92. Their 92 show is one of my favorites, and that's saying a lot seeing as I'm an SCV guy lol.
I like this better than the actual song
It not the pipes it the plumbers. They no longer teach people how to shear the bell off with their chops.
And now I wish I played brass.
1:27 oh my gawd
@sonofjabba ... Nope. It's the horns and the "bandification" of DCI. Might as well go see a Bands of America finals show.
I consider myself a musician not just a woodwind/string player... because to section myself off from this ear sex....would be a crime against humanity. by the way, i came twice during the duration of the video....
They need to bring back "big bad and blue" so bad.....
nobody plays the kickass mellophone part anymore:(((
Oh god I want sheet music...
What about when a man loves a man?
@jonathancraik14 This is definitely using Gs. listen to the pap they are churning out in the 2009 version of this. This is so much better and sounds completely different.
@forrest822 G bugles are in the key of G and take alot more balls to play.
Nope. This isnt 92'. This is a studio recording done sometime after 2000 I think.. We never did one in 92' although I wished we had.
This was the 96 recording we did with Frank Dorritie.
It doesn’t even sound the same on Bb horns nor does it have the same impact of G bugles. 😢😩
#NameThatYear
This is 1992. I've had the audio recording of this since the 90s, note for note, flourish for flourish. These people either weren't there or haven't listened to this exact recording as many times over the years as I have. It is NOT on trumpets, it is not from this century even.
@NC GROYPER it’s possible that this was recorded in 2003, but it’s definitely the same key as the 1992 version.
@peanutbutterjellyti8 :D i would love you forever if you could send me the score!!!
:)

No its not its the 2005 version because blue devils didn't have range until Scott dean era
Bagus sekali lagunya saya pecinta marcing band dari Amerika bagus bagus sekali bay see you ............ni dari indonesia jakarta

@DCBDlife they did this in 92 while still on the G bugles and again in 09.
Um... Great and all but go back to 1992 and experience the real thing... G bugles
@Breazeale93 Easy fro trolls
@jonathancraik14 wrong. use your ears. listen to this then listen to the 2009 version.
Robdob 2009 is in a different key, I can’t say for sure he’s right but it’s definitely not 2009
This is the 1992 version, G HORNS!!!!
But not like THIS.
Sounds like the 1992 Blue Devils. The 2009 version sucked.....just compared the 2 drum corps.
The 2009 version is in a different key and is played with Bb instruments. Definitely not going to have the same vibe.

Did this guy really just say Drum Corps is hard than basic? I don't know about you but I don't of anyone who has been shot with rubber bullets while on tour with with a drum corps
If that’s your opinion then you haven’t heard of the Claudia Taylor Johnson HS marching band from San Antonio TX...
What band are you from?
