    What an absolutely stupid design by BMW.
    Any battery that needs to be replaced at regular intervals should be readily accessible.
    Why have BMW put it in a place where you have to take a car apart to get to it?
    Also why is it a very expensive BMW-only battery when a generic product would do the same job. Is this just to reward BMW dealers at the expense of BMW customers?

    By the way, the communication module can be detached as well (there is a small kind of latch in the bottom of the module. ) and after it it is very easy to open the battery compartment but a bit hard to click the module back to the original position.

    Why do you need to clear the code if it’s the battery? System should just recognise it?
    I had this come and go and is no permanently on my 2019, so assuming battery is out. Will see how much BMW charge and if not too much I’ll get them to do it; if it comes back they can fix it. Could be dirty contacts if it comes back.

    Hey man thanks for the video. So from what I saw in the comments you can get the code on the Carly app? I have MHD and no code pops up, I have the SOS malfunction on my 335i and it just randomly popped up the other day

      @@canyoncars that is correct. I have seen from the forums that some people use bimmerlink to check the code and I guess BimmerCode you can code it out. I did just find a video for that. I don’t have the sos subscription so I was going to just code it out but I do wonder if it’s that same battery. My cars a 2012 so more then likely the original

      I recommend buying the obd2 scanner veepeak and use car scanner. That and bimmerlink are the two that I found for free that work. But even after replacing the battery and clearing the code the issue did not go away. I had to code out the entire error message

      @canyoncars  Год назад +1

      I’ve heard of it being attempted but from the research I did, it looked like most people still had the error code come back. It also isn’t really “fixing” the problem so I just went with the battery replacement option. If it was easy to code out that’s probably what I would’ve done. Let me know if you figure out a way!

    • @ivorcarcamo
      @ivorcarcamo Год назад +2

      Thanks man, I didn’t think it was possible either and not a permanent fix anyway. But this is one of the dumbest things BMW could’ve done in recent years. Why make a module that requires a damn battery replacement. Why not hot wire it to the rest of the electronics? Just makes no sense. I just got that error in my wife’s G05 X5, first they told me it was the entire TCM, then the battery, but no real answer. Just a hit or miss with the dealer and a large repair bill most likely.

    • @canyoncars
      @canyoncars  Год назад

      @@ivorcarcamo My understanding is that the battery is rechargeable and over time it just can’t hold a charge and triggers the fault code. My guess is that they use a standalone battery for the system in case there’s damage and the main electronics don’t work. A good design if you think about it like that but a guaranteed annoyance for us once the car is around 6 years old.
      Best of luck with the X5!

      @futfut1 8 месяцев назад

      We have this code on a m340i x drive.bmw wants 3k to swap out the TCM. Everything works, like gps. and remote start.bmw says since the roof was wrapped, it's not under warranty . Will swap out battery first to see if solves the problem.

    • @canyoncars

      You’ll need a scan tool of some sort. I used Carly and their OBD II connector but I’ve also had success with Bimmerlink and a wired Ethernet to OBD II connector on an iPad.
