    Just a tiny correction (which will also hopefully help others watching the video): The Power Mac G5's which used "liquid cooling" did in fact not use water cooling, but instead a liquid similar to what cars use to keep their engines cool. This is the reason why it is highly corrosive and causes problems on these machines.

      Ah, I see! Thanks for letting me know. I am very lucky with mine then.

      GM DEXCOOL probably chosen for its lifetime usage. Albeit, could it be replaced with "green" coolant?

    In order to get molex power for PowerMac G5s, I've found you can either syphon power from SATA connectors (not recommended) or take the power from the cdrom (but you might need to extend the cable). I wouldn't put in a video card that requires more than the 75 Watts provided by the PCI Express slot + ~30 additional watts in this way.

      Thanks for the valuable info but it wasn't necessary after all. I managed to get all of them working using their original GPUs.

      @@MacintoshMen that's good. The Quadro card, if ordered from apple, came with the necessary power connectors if I recall correctly. I have a dual core 2.0ghz which doesn't, so I had to use the cdrom power to upgrade my graphics card.

    I would love to buy one of those twin processor with a PCI-X to SCSI board to hook up my Polaroid SprintScan 4000 to scan negatives and transparencies! Mine, a twin processor, freezes. It is in the laboratory but they aren't very receptive to me asking for a processor re-glueing!

      I don't think you'll have a hard time finding one. There are many G5s kicking around.

      @@MacintoshMen It's a pity that the original power brick is missing, perhaps the previous owner has it stored somewhere or is it in one of those boxes of cables which you have.

    'Bliksem' is Dutch for 'lightning'. Considering they are made in China, I don't think they will be running like like lightning though.

    I realize this is over a year after the fact, and that you're long past worrying about this project. But I still want to point out that cheap no-name-brand SSDs are not necessarily a good indicator of what a PM G5 will successfully boot from.

    • @MacintoshMen
      @MacintoshMen  3 месяца назад +1

      Yes, you were right. It wouldn't boot with the SSD. These G5s are picky when it comes to SSDs.

    Did that HP laptop end up working fully and how much did it sell for?

    • @MacintoshMen
      @MacintoshMen  Год назад

      Yes, that HP worked flawlessly in the end. Even this stain dried up and went completely away. Somebody bought it for 70€. Not bad.
