I am happy to finally be able to share the full version of the Pink Orchids watercolor tutorial created for the Summer Creative retreat with Peggy Dean [there was a wait period of a few months before I could publish it on other platforms]. We will practice wet-on-wet technique with controlled color transitions:) All materials are listed below, along with the outline and reference photos for download. 💕 Enjoy!

🎨 MATERIALS:
- Watercolor Paper: 100% Cold Pressed, 140lbs or higher. I used Arches Cold Pressed
- Brushes: 2 Round Watercolor brushes in sizes 2 - 6
- 2 Jars of water, pencil & eraser
🎨 PIGMENTS:
COOL PINK. Recommended: Quinacridone Magenta { any brand }
WARM RED: Recommended Quinacridone Red { any brand }
VIOLET. Recommended Quinacridone Violet W&N and Dioxazine Purple QOR
YELLOW: Recommended: Hansa Yellow Deep DS or Cadmium Yellow DS
LIGHT GREEN: I used Sap Green DS + Yellow from above
DARK GREEN: Recommended: Hookers Green DS

I am so grateful that you decided to put on a full tutorial on RUclips I understand you do that on your patreon and other stuff but I'm on a limited income because of cancer and I can't afford to do your other things and you are my favorite artist to follow so I watch everything I can on RUclips about you over and over and over... Thanks so much for this tutorial. Not only is it clear and easy to follow, but you have provided some very practical information for learning techniques. There's no unnecessary chatter, and no annoying music to distract the viewer. The camera angle and distance from the subject are just right. So I would say this is one of the best videos I've seen for teaching watercolor!

Thanks a lot! This was a great opportunity to correct a lot of my mistakes. I felt myself improving on the way even though the result turned out quite messy at some points mostly because I used a size 8 brush for the major portion while I had a size 2 in hand. It'd be great to have more of these, please...

His videos are like episodes of a pleasant BBC series😊, and his style is very different, so combined these two channels provide a broad "palette". Also, he adds bits of general art lessons from time to time, integrated into the tutorials.

Anna, I just love your videos, you have a wonderful approach to teaching and I think you for sharing your talent and knowledge with us all here. I read that you are undergoing some health challenges right now. I am sorry to hear that but I pray that you will overcome whatever you are faced with. Im older and retired so I can relate to health challenges and feeling a bit too low to paint but in reality it can be your therapy too, it is for me when I get a bit low….and it brings me to wonderful artists such as yourself. I will be thinking of you and praying that you have a good recovery from whatever ails you.

I finally realize how badly I have been overworking all of my watercolour painting by overusing wet in wet in too many layers. You clearly pointed out laying down a color on a petal and blending out .

Hi Anna, I ❤ your art! I just started learning watercolor have been learning so much from your videos. I have a question: what do we do with the pencil outlines? Do we always outline over them? And if we do, how do we decide what/which color/s to use?
To make temperature changes, why dont you use alizarin red and add ultramarine blue to cool it, or new gamboge to warm it

Hi Anna, I'm curious to know if you edited out your usual lengthy wait time for drying the glazing layers, or simply allowed a few minutes drying, as it appears in your video. Your editing transitions can be so smooth, it's hard to tell.

I use Escoda brushes - they have lots of different kinds - natural and synthetic. My favourite is Escoda Chronos 😊💗

I tried it and it didn't work, any tips
What kind of paper do you use Daisy? It doesn’t work as well if it’s not cotton Watercolor paper.
