    I have avoidant, fearful personality and have spent my whole life being isolated from the world, but also from myself. There was never any fear of loosing ego, because my life was so shitty I wanted it to go away. And it did. Paradoxically, without the sense of personal self, I'm more myself than ever before. And for the first time in my life, I love this damaged, broken personality. The Self loves the self 😄
    I think that experiencing a lot of suffering and wanting to disassociate from the ego can actually be an advantage. You think that awakening will be a way out, but actually it's a way in 😄

    Going down a long water slide,I feel like I would die of totally fear, but also I would have to die to my fear to be able to let go and go.. it feels the same as holding onto me and my life…. I listen to so many of these videos, I have always been so empathetic, aware, tuned in, but also shut down. I have done hours of deep meditation, read hundreds of books, I sit in silence, I have so few interests now, everything drops. I do not work, I am very much in the now. I have had moments that I know I am driving my car, but it is happening in my head. 13 years ago after 7 weeks in a clinic in France, I was just buzzing and being everything happening but no me and no thoughts. This letting go is what is necessary and Into total trust. It feels like the same fear as going down a slide, I have been fearful all my life of slipping and sliding… thank you so much for sharing your stories…

    I can so relate to what Angelo said at 5:45. It all flipped for me at that age and seemingly suddenly and stuff that didn't matter mattered. I also grew a guilt conscience and frankly the protective innocence of childhood was gone and I became very concerned with good and bad and right and wrong. Later, during adolescence I became aware and more impacted by the behavior of my parents and larger family, most of which was negative and highly judgmental.

      @@dcktater7847 Growing up in the 60s and 70s, I was called 'butter fingers' because I couldn't catch a ball and punished for not being able to write neatly. I didn't find out that I had dyspraxia until I was in my forties. On the other hand, my autistic brother has been labelled as schizophrenic and imprisoned and abused by the psychiatric system ,since he had a meltdown at sixteen when our dad died. My mum managed to have him assessed and diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome when he was also in his forties, but they refused to accept it. So yes, he has been called crazy. Hopefully nowadays most people, including mental health professionals, know the difference between neurological difference and psychosis!

    I've been listening to Angelo for a few years. So much love, affection and gratitude for this man. And, simultaneously, it doesn't really feel that personal. But it does feel very intimate and beautiful. For this guy (me) and all his beliefs and identity structures, Angelo is simply the most powerful, direct and compassionate teacher out there in the world today. And I enjoy diving into Lisa's field, too, whenever I find myself watching her. Thank you both for this chat. Beautiful.
    *Edit. I had never heard the term neurodivergent before. And, as someone who spent the first 45 years of life plagued by the same repeating thought, "What the hell is wrong with me?", it was vaguely reassuring to become acquainted with this word and understand others have also always felt they don't "fit" in the world or who can't "do" life like we're supposed to.

    The event that is beyond experience that you speak of is what Neo-Platonism refers to as "The One". Plato wrote a letter stating that anyone who claims they have understood what he is talking about is wrong, and that he has never written about it and that it is not possible to write about it. Plotinus expressed astonishment after exiting The One, having recalled that he was somewhere even higher or greater than Nous (pure consciousness) but that it is so radical that essentially nothing could be said about it. But it apparently is precisely through entrance (and then an exit) from The One that it becomes known to the soul that the ascending path from the many to the one, and the descending path from the one to the many are utterly non-dual. The shadows in Plato's cave go from being something that imprisons a person and obscures them from the light, to being perfect expressions of the light. The shadows themselves (form) are not bad. Being caught up in the shadows without knowledge of what they are rooted in (emptiness) is the problem.
    I know there are many eastern traditions that speak about this journey and experience of the ultimate non-dual or nirvana or what have you, but I find it remarkable that it is expressed in pretty much the same ways in both the east and west, and that it's expressed in so many different traditions.

    I’d love to hear more about neurodivergence and awakening.
    I’m female and got diagnosed with ADHD at 45. It’s been life changing in the sense that I’ve spent most of my life being invalidated by others. People don’t mean it in a mean way, but people just don’t get it when I find something really hard that should be fairly easy (laundry or returning an item to the post office). I think I also sit on the autistic spectrum too. I’m a lot kinder to myself now I have a diagnosis.
    But I’ve also had a feeling that I’m broken in some way and recently that awakening might be more challenging for me because of my neurodivergence.
    I know having ADHD overall has made me a kinder person especially when I lean into my own suffering. I get to then have some understanding of how things play out in others.

  • @markartist8646
    @markartist8646 Год назад

    21:35 The ultimate check out from the world to disassociation. Sorry, but this is the trap of nonduality. Check out and don't acknowledge thought processes that are part of the ego, the thing we need in order to have relationships and solve relational problems, and manage the very real conflicts in the world. I went through the nondual awareness shift. It was great! It feels wonderful. It's deeply healing and comforting, and it is at the same time a trap. You must cultivate both, the self and the no self. To deny the self and "bypass" it through nonduality is a trap, a form of repression and splitting off from the ego self that is part of the experience of this world in all it's messiness, choas, and wonder. To "checkout" and seek to abide constantly in nondual bliss is to lose your empathy and ability to be intimate and vulnerable with others. It's hard and challenging to face and deal with those early life challenges and traumatic experiences, but it too is the path to wholeness. Being a self, having a narrative (past) conflicted or not, that is well integrated and connected to humanity and related to humanity is what is missing in some nondual sects like this. There's a type of grandiosity in this realization that should be noted with caution. Many become spiritual teachers and leaders after these experiences before they are ready. The real inner work hasn't come up yet. That's the spiritual bypassing trap.
