Example of teletext subtitles

Teletext's original design purpose, before it was expanded into a news and information magazine, was purely as a way of adding optional subtitles to an analogue TV broadcast.
This example is from 2010, and shows the use of different colours so that the viewer can differentiate between who is saying what.
On screen, there would have been video with the subtitles being boxed so that they covered the TV programme only with the space they need to show the text. The video is not included here, only the subtitles from the teletext feed.
