    Hi Yankee Prepper
    I Have been enjoying your videos on Your RV restore plus your Vehicle DIY videos
    My parents have a 1976/77 Dodge B300 Delta Motor Home with a 360 engine in it
    They purchased her when she was only 3 years old.
    We have taken the old girl to 48 States and all 10 provinces in Canada over the many trips
    She has been great to us
    Recently my parents have passed her on to me to continue the journey
    I just finished redoing the entire Brake system from the brake booster to the pads and redid all the wheel bearings and races
    Now onto the engine compartment. So far I have replaced all of the coolant and vacuum hoses
    Next step i am planning on replacing the Carburetor and replacing allot of the engine gaskets to cut down on the good old leaks
    I really liked the chrome Air Cleaner Assembly and the valve cover breather Filter you put on.
    I have been trying to locate them but haven't had much luck even went to K & N web site and came up empty
    Every Web site or Store I have tried I have come up empty
    Could you help me
    Do you remember the part numbers for Air Cleaner Assembly and filter also the valve cover breather Filter ?
    Thank you
    and
    Thank you for all the great videos keep up the great work

    I bet the interior of that thing is cool! I had a 72 Starcraft trailer with orange carpet and dark brown paneling, thought about adding a disco ball!!
    Best towing/backing camper trailer I ever had!!

    Nice job! My Dad bought a '78 Dodge Sportsman motor home new when I was a kid. Back then, you had to add your own generator to the rear bumper and a window AC unit. Brings back lots of cool memories of boondocking after riding dirt bikes all day.

    This is March of 2022 I have a 77 Dodge 360 in my Mallard class C RV.. it had 84,000 original miles on it and after about 9,000 miles I realized a lot of things needed to be done but it didn't realize at first so to make a long story short I started at the bottom of the motor replaced the oil pan with a brand new one an oil pump also new transmission mount motor mounts and service the transmission changing the filter and fluid. Of course I went and did the rear brakes that weren't working when I purchased it put a new emergency brake cable in also. then started on the front of the motor replacing the timing gears and chain and cover water pump fuel pump idler pulleys alternator all hoses all about fresh tune up new coil and Edelbrock high performance intake manifold and an Edelbrock high performance for barrel carburetor and I put a nice chromie valve covers on with the Edelbrock carburetor air cleaner and those really nice chromie valve cover vents a nice Chrome thermostat housing. And all aluminum radiator and this baby sings and she's beautiful to look at but the dog House covers it so I take a picture of it and that's probably all we're going to see at this beautiful engine but she sure runs sweet. The nice thing about these Dodges are the parts are still readily available all the electrical parts everything. Which I also change and have spare parts on hand.

    Just seeing these vids today. Really good. I commented on number 4, which I saw first and loved. As a woman with no mechanical experience, I still got something out of this. I'm trying to make a 1975 Coachmen dependable as well as comfortable. Thankfully, my friend and neighbor of many years is a mechanic or I'd probably be quoted a price so high I'd be SOL. Still, he's use to cars and can rebuild a hot rod easily. He says it's just different working on an RV. I ordered/received a wrong part twice. One was a brake line. However, he adjusted the fitting of one side. It works well. Also kept old fittings in case needed with new lines in the future. But, he too had to clean up one old part and reinstall it because I couldn't find the part anywhere that fit her. Hate you got the wrong part; however, what you did looks amazing! Hope to see interior as I keep watching.

    Nice!!! those valve covers came out nicely, I always check the push rods when I am in the old 360's and 318's they are notorious for bending ever so slightly and at about 2.00 a push rod easy quick and cheap. The best upgrade for an old dodge 360 is the newer high torque delco starters from the 94-01 Ram 360 magnum engines. They bolt right on and spin the old engines fast especially in the cold and weigh a lot less than the factory tractor style starters when you have to change them out, also you can remove without disconnecting the headers or exhaust.. 100 amp ray bestos alternator and you are ready to roll but if you go to a larger alternator be sure and check the lines running to the alternator gauge in the dash they are notorious for catching fire in all those old dodge truck dashes. It has happened to me twice restoring old dodge trucks. I just always bypass the alternator amp lines running in through the firewall and go with a volt meter instead of the amp meter. There just is no good reason to bring all those amps in through the firewall and into an antique dash cluster... beautiful work Yankee looks amazing, BTW I am super jealous you found this Minnie Winnie.... Your work as always is impeccable, thank you for sharing...

    i hope you're still posting, i have a question, did you ever replace the distributor? i have a 1978 dodge 16, 6 Sportsman with a 318. I've been updating the engine just like you suggest and i'm about to put the new distributor in that i got from "rockauto" .
    i ran it the engine with the old distributor to make sure it ran after all the updates and it does. how difficult is it to put the new distributor in? does the #1 cylinder have to be at TDC when i change it out to the new one so everything lines up down inside?
    FYI i marked the location of the #1 cylinder with the rotor just like you did at 7:27 and it lined up in the exact spot yours did (i never would have thought to to that if it wasn't for this video)
    many thanks for your channel

    Does a distributor cap work like ignition points? I only have motor experience with motorcycle engines and small motors. I had a 1978 Honda CB550 and fought with the points for months before switching over to an electronic ignition system.

    • @Yankeeprepper
      @Yankeeprepper  10 лет назад +1

      The "conventional" points/condenser/coil ignition system was invented by an American named Charles Kettering the founder of DELCO and first introduced on the 1910 Cadillac. The newer electronic ignition systems might give better performance at higher speeds but is no where near as dependable.

    Engine looks great, what kind of power system does that boat have? Curious how many amps that alternator puts out to power all the on-board equipment. For the record, I know nothing about RVs. Thanks Yankee.

    • @Yankeeprepper
      @Yankeeprepper  10 лет назад +4

      The original alternator is 68 amps and that is plenty to power the 12 volt lights and a pump and/or heater fan ( the rear AC only works when hooked to external power). The new LED lights I will be putting in next, will actually make it a little easier on battery drainage. I will be upgrading to a 100 amp to handle the cameras, TV, driving lights etc. I will be adding though. There really isn't that much to this RV that is any different than my truck .

    Hello,
    I came across your videos today of the RV rebuild. I have a 1978 Dodge Cham HC with 86k miles that has been sitting for ~10-12 years. I'd love to rebuild it and get it on the road but I am unsure of whether that commitment is worthwhile, so I thought I'd find someone to ask a few questions before I start diving into the project. First off, I'm not much of a mechanic myself although I'm willing to learn and have friends who are. My Dad says the engine is in great shape but due to the years and years its been sitting many parts will need replaced. I wondered if you could give me an idea of what parts might have a tendency to wear out. What are some common issues with these? I also wondered how easy it is to find parts and whether those parts are expensive. Will people still work on an old RV like this? I'd hate to break down somewhere and be unable to get repairs done and wonder what parts are even made at this point. Ideally I'd like to take the thing across the country, so we are talking about heavy use here. I'm really unsure of whether its worth putting lots of time and money into something as old as this, but I really love the RV.
    I haven't take the time to watch them yet, but I'm sure I will soon. Before I begin to figure out how to do work on it I'm trying to figure out if its worth my time and energy.
    Thanks for giving me some of your time to read and respond to this, I really appreciate it.

      I suggest watching the vids, my time has already been put into them and they are free for viewing. My advice is, I would not try to rebuild or restore a mechanical device without mechanical aptitude or being willing to pay someone else to do it.

I just got my '78 Clipper with a 440, and the Mice and birds packed it so tight (with the straw, tree branches, and fiberglass from the doghouse) that it looked like the crap was a perfect mold of the doghouse when I pulled it off. It took 2-hours to chisel through all the crap, and I still get to go at it again tomorrow. {sighs}

      +Ken Link Just unhook the fuel line from the carb and see if fuel is coming out when you turn it over, you will know right away if the fuel pump is working or not. (If you get yourself some tubing, you can route the gas to a can). You can also run the engine without the fuel pump by hooking up a plastic bottle and tubing hooked to the carb inlet, just hold the bottle above the engine and let gravity feed the carb. With that being said, you should be able to hear and SMELL gas squirting into the carb. If you can't smell it, you obviously are not getting fuel. That means a new fuel pump which is only 15 bucks from rockauto is needed, if it's the original fuel pump....it's TIME to get a new fuel pump. There is the OFF/slight chance the filter is plugged, so a new fuel filter would not hurt either way.
