Hey Brian, another great video sir!! I live in Scotland so I had to import all 3 of the recent Kino Kubrick releases and I mean HAD TO!! how could I not!!?
Its a real pain to me that I have to pay vastly inflated prices for these and other Kino discs when I import them, I pray that Kino can at least licence their transfers for other territories at some point. 3 dollare films, touch of evil, Misery..... its been an expensive year.
Keep up the good work.
Incidentally in the Uk Eureka released paths of glory and it has different bonus features to the US Criterion.
Yeah, I can see how pricey a year it’s been ! Now that you mention it, I’m curious why Kino hasn’t licensed those transfers.
I feel your pain. I'm from Germany and and paid almost 130€ for all 3 of them combined.
@@stevegeiler yeah,I was around the same, £40 each for me from ebay.
I watched this one again recently streaming and found that I appreciated it even more than the first time I saw it. I had the Criterion edition on my wishlist for quite a while, but then when I heard about the Kino 4K, I changed my wishlist to that and would have bought it as soon as it came out. However, the fact that it is a 4K disc only and it lost the previous bonus features now has me in a quandary. I am not happy about seeing more and more releases that do a 4K disc only but still sell for the same price as most do a combo pack, and especially once the previous features are lost, and I'm not going to buy two premium priced versions (even though it is a great film) of something I may watch once a decade. That is just my opinion I wanted to share, but at this point I think I will just end up holding off and not buy either edition, given that I just watched the movie again recently, and there are so many others coming out to choose from all the time. I think that at least with Paramount they offer a digital copy (which the boutiques do not offer), so when I picked up Shooter which I didn't have yet I can still watch in other parts of the house where I don't have a 4K player, and the same with The Untouchables (though with that one I also have a previous Blu-ray I will hold on to, as well). Anyway, I appreciate more those who do include a Blu-ray, especially a new edition and not just a repackage, as well as a digital copy if they have those rights (but I do understand the labels that don't have that but at least put in 4K and Blu-ray together).
I appreciate your quandary and your choice to perhaps hold off. I need to make this decision Myself more often
@@JustTheDiscs Perhaps, but I do want to emphasize that I was just speaking for myself and my situation. That really is a fantastic looking release, and you did a great job talking about it!
@@cinemaniac78 thank you!
Do you think that Criterion sometime will upgrade to 4k the Kubrick films?
Good question, but my fuse would be if Kino is upgrading they must have secured the rights to do so? By that logic Criterion will not if kino had already? Just my guess.
I'm wondering about Barry Lyndon in particular...whether Warner will do that one themselves or let Criterion handle it
Think warner has the rights to Lolita, Barry Lyndon and Eyes wide shut, the latter has been rumoured as next WB kubrick 4k for a while now.
Just need those 3 jn 4k to complete my Kubrick set. 🤞
Same!
Do the releases in the past year put kino at the top? The 4k releases are ridiculous.
They are definitely near the top at this point. The last several I’ve gotten have been pretty great looking!
Is it just me or does George Macready and Keith David have the same voice?
Interestingly similar!
