@@ThePopcast that makes no sense. Guinean was beamed out and that gave her powers? But guinan was still in the nexus, she spoke to Picard in there.. she told him he could leave if he wanted and a part of him would be left behind.. so guinan got the powers because she was ripped from the event rather than choosing to leave? It has something to do with the NEXUS. Someone uses it to yank her around. She becomes aware of it sometimes. Q is
long lived as Guinen is. So they must be long time foes. Q is a "bad" Q but now and then are imposed into situations by good Q. It helps him but eventually flips back quickly to usual ornery troublemaking Q. He and Guinen have been aware of each other. Guinen knows his actions are never benevolent. So she never trusts him. He knows this and is fearful as he is suspicious of her purpose. It's a good story line. Anxious for it to play out. Hopefully Q finally mends his ways. He once actually played a great part as a war hero and in love. Don't recall the end, but it fell into reality again and he was the old Q.
There were other instances in their pasts that pop up. Would have liked to know Rodenberry's plan. Loved all of the shows.

According to Picard season 2 episode 9, Q makes a remark "I always hated that about your species." So her abilities are not just due to the Nexus, her race had this awareness. There is also a truce I believe between her race and the Q. A deeper exploration of her race or another character from her race would be intriguing if written correctly.

Actually they dropped the clues a while ago. Guinan is not only an El-Aurian, but she is almost ageless and partially telepathic when she can sense things that aren't right or downright dangerous like Q or the Enterprise-C entering the same timeline and everything changed from Exploration to Warship.
On the episode of Mark Twain, that was in the 1890s range, Guinan is the same appearance as her future self and she carried her knowledge all the way into the future when she talked with the crew about where they must go.

I have always thought she was part of an alien race with similar abilities as Q but were in the opposition. While at the same time her race have not reached the "higher plain" (the continum) and were on the cusp of doing so. In terms of opposition; break illusions or manipulations of reality, is unaffected by direct changes, can sense changes, remove manifestations, and is fully aware the costs of manipulations (in terms of energy or damage, ect). I think the latter deals with making all Q's deal with costs. Of you think about it costs is what the devil is known for in terms of "getting" what you want. That is why she isn't running around causing direct problems because her powers deal with setting things back to natural order and with any manipulation turned back on the person doing it.

I think Guinan in particular may be a what in some fictions is called a Single Point Being, i.e. there is only one Guinan in *all* realities. Q manipulates reality by altering it, and if the actual mechanics are that he’s swapping realities on a micro level (swapping a full room for an empty one), it could be that the reason Guinan isn't affected is because due to her own powers and connection to the Nexus she is anchored to the main reality only. And even when Q manages to do something drastic like change the Enterprise entirely she still knows that reality has been swapped.
My other idea is that for every Q there is a kind of anti-Q, a super stable being to their super chaotic existence. Guinan is our Q's anti-Q

I don't know if there is only "one" Guinan, but they seem psychically linked, at least a little. That would explain how Guinan senses that a particular timeline is wrong (I forgot the name of the episode, the one with the Enterprise C and Tasha's brief return). It was also, kinda, explain how Guinan is both inside and outside the Nexus. But this is betrayed by her own words, that in the Nexus she is just an "echo". (Of course nothing about the Nexus makes sense: it's supposed to be a heaven-like environment "like being inside joy" and yet Picard becomes disenchanted within a few minutes, Kirk within an hour (depending on how long they were riding horses. If Guinan and Soren were ever in the Nexus in the first place, how did they get pulled out, etc.?)

That was what I always... almost always expected Guinan to be. She is 'setting things right'' in the smallest ways. You can call that wisdom but what if it's what she is, a being to correct mistakes before they happen or spin out of control. To preserve the timeline.
And yes that would effectively make her an anti-Q. I doubt if it's by design though. She did not prevent humans from finding the Borg and if one Q-induced-event messed up things it was meeting the Borg for the first time. Even Guinan has trouble with the Borg so if there was one thing she would have prevented...... But then again, we would have missed a great enemy. Somehow human thrive on a good enemy. There's only one race that has fought the Q and that happened about 5 billion years ago in the past. The very same race that spawned all life in the multiverse, the race itself that I am talking is or are known as the "Ancient Humanoids", they were only mentioned briefly in the 1960ies..
This race existed throughout the entire universe and they found out that there was nothing like them, no races at all, no life, no sentient life. And then puff the Q appeared and killed them off.
So in other words, the Q are not from the begin of the universe but they are rather from the end of the universe and traveled back in time.
We also know that the Starfleet still exists by the time of 30.000AD in the future, and humans by then have evolved to become energy or break the 5th wall, like the Q... if anything humanity has been playing itself or may have corrupted themselves or came from an alternated timeline or are not even aware..

@@cdreid9999 Also: The Borg were already aware of the Federation, they were destroying outsiders posts and before they had the Hansons assimilated. And it seems as if in some inner circles of Starfleet they knew about the Borg - or why would the Hansons have gone to the Delta Quadrant in the first place?
And now let's count a bit together: The Enterprise B rescued a bunch of El-Aurian refugees. Nobody can make me believe, that at least Section 36 wouldn't have interrogated the refugees afterwards - and while I guess that Guinan stayed silent - but maybe not (see below) (and Soran was only focussed on the Nexus), there must have been El-Aurians, who've told the federation, Section 36 or others, from WHOM they have fled. To warn the federation for example.
But there were two problems in 2393:
      1. the Khitomer protocols prohibited Starfleet to build real war ships. And you don't want to tell the Klingons to tell about the Borg - I mean, they might be so foolish to try to attack the Borg. Also it seems as in 2393 the Borg hadn't yet gained the ability to do Transwarp - so the Federation was not in immediate danger. A travel from Borg Space to Earth would at least have taken 10 to 40 years - and the Borg weren't aware of the Humans until the Hansons. Guess when the attacks on the colonies started? In 2363 - 10 years after the Hansons got assimilated. So in 2393 the best for the federation to do was to stay silent.
      2. There was a mentality on earth, tampered because of 30 years of peace, to never build warships again. Kirk complains about it in the start of the novel for Star Trek Motion Pictures and you can also see it in how the federation acts at the end of the century: The politics were dominated by hippies, who would rather risk the federation than go to war. Especially not a war 20.000 light years away.
They had to produce the Warships in secret. Nobody can tell me, that it only took 5 years from 2365 to 2370 to come up with not only the Defiant, but also the Sovereign, the Akira etc. And to have a good amount of ships ready in 2373, especially to have a Sovereign 100% finished in building so that when the D was destroyed they could on the spot give Picard a new flag ship. We all know, the A was only a renamed older ship that was taken because the Excelsior Class was still in testing, originally Starfleet had planned to have the A be an Excelsior already, and the Sovereign will most likely have been in production for at least 5 years in 2373.
I would say, that a part of Starfleet secretly was planning on these technologies like Quantum torpedos (don't forget, they used simple Antimatter Torpedoes since the 2100s, so they really needed an upgrade), rapid impulse phasers etc. but didn't got much funding because of the Hippies in the Admirality. Also, you had this "small" conspiracy in 2363 and most likely beforehand, which might have hindered them also. Only when the normal captain like Picard became aware of the existence of the Borg, which most likely will have spread like a Wildfire through Starfleet, and after Wolf 359 this group got huge fundings. They might have not money in that time - but you still need resources for science and building ships.
It's also quite interesting, that they have already Ltnt. Comm. Shelby who is highly educated on the Borg - How? From the few scans of the Enterprise D one year ago? More likely from the probes the Hansons left behind to get found by Starfleet. They know MUCH MORE than Picard or Riker, that's also why Shelby knows better tactics to use the Enterprise D to fight the Borg.
But all the Starfleet tactics have one major problem: These damn families on board! This hippie idea that made the Enterprise D more of a Cruise Liner than of a Battle Cruiser. How could the officers risk ALL they can to save the federation, when they have always in mind, that their families are on board the ship too? Imagine the soldiers of the world wars, Korea, Vietnam etc. would have brought their wives and children with them to the front line... that's absolutely madness. Nice idea for a ship where they make trips between Vulcan, Andoria and Earth - but insane for "front of the line" vessels. They lost at least 500 civilians on the Galaxy class just by the fact, that the Yamato and another Galaxy ship got destroyed, we don't even want to talk about all the civilians on the 39 destroyed ships at Wolf 359, and the only reason, the civilians on the Odyssey weren't killed was that they were on DS9, when the ship got destroyed with the minimum crew on board.
Now let's come to typical tactics of the military to deal with overtly hippie governments: they disguise what they really plan. Imagine this: they pushed so many credits in building Galaxy class ships, the hippie dream of the "we are all a big galaxy family". But they only finished 6 of the 12 prebuild vessels, the Galaxy, the Yamato, the Enterprise, the Odyssey, the Challenger and the Venture. The others were only partially finished - for what you might ask. I tell you my theory: For being put into action as real war ships in case the Borg invade. That's why they also made them TWO battleships in disguise - no other ship before had a battle bridge. Why? Because you don't win against the Borg with traditional ship of the line tactics, but only with swarm tactics and the more "smaller" vessels you have the better.
Perhabs Guinan even knew about the plan, who knows, perhabs she had told the Federation what was going to happen and was on the Enterprise to explain to Picard in the end, what he should do then. She is quite high ranking in her security rights for only being a "bar tender". So perhabs her "Q, no" wasn't because she knew the dangers the Enterprise would face alone against the Borg. But perhabs because Q made a big mistake:
He made the Borg aware of the Existence of the Galaxy class! The class was in 2364 under high scrutiny, only the most important captains knew about the ships, and especially none of the colonists that were assimilated in 2363 or 2364 would have known about the Enterprise, Galaxy etc. But because Q showed the Borg the Enterprise D, the Borg were able to see: "damn, they have the capacity now to go against us. Not this nice Ambassador class ships, not this small Mirandas - no, this ship is a real thread." So they decided to now really go against the Federation as fast as possible. And it seems as in that time they hadn't gotten Transwarp yet, so it took them one year.
Also most likely they might have gotten the Message send out by the Borg in 2153, that will have warned them of "Picard". So one of their goals became to get rid of that Picard - by assimilating him. I mean, why him? Wouldn't you try to attack the ship of an admiral and assimilate him instead? No, the Borg knew from the fractured message, that Picard was a danger - they just didn't knew that his whole crew was capable of fighting them. They should have destroyed the Enterprise, when the ship was trying to hide, but instead they only captured Picard and went on.
And why didn't Starfleet send out their Galaxy-Class ships to Wolf 359? Why only old ships, most of them with no families on board? Because the Borg were to fast for them to disembark the families in the Galaxy class ships to nearby space stations and then head on to Wolf 359 or Earth! And their six Galaxy class ships in preparation weren't ready - because they would have to fit the weapons on them first. The Enterprise crew decided to risk the lives of the families on board, but well, Riker and Co. were all without family on board, so it seems they didn't cared much in that heated moment. And they had no space station to abandon the civilians anyway, because they had to follow the cube. And their honor to save the captain was on the line.
So in the end Q might have not even warned Starfleet of the Borg - but the Borg of Starfleet and only luck and really crazy ideas by Riker and Shelby saved the day. Who knows, what Q was thinking there. Perhabs he saw that the tactic to make Starfleet a real military again wouldn't work if people like Picard would still believe, that their only mission is to bring peace and knowledge to the Galaxy. Picard might have been a good tactician - but his mind was quite hippie himself in the first seasons, before he realized what REAL threads lie ahead. Perhabs Q thought: "The Federation needs a shock moment to wake up from the dreams." And the federation got it - latestly with Wolf 359

By the way, the reason Jake was on Board at Wolf 359 wasn't because that ship had families on board. Of course a Miranda class wouldn't have. But both his parents were enlisted crewmembers of the ship, so they took Jake with them, instead of leaving him at his grandparents place. I'll bet he was one of the few kids on board that vessel, I mean, it's a Miranda-Class vessel, they most likely didn't even had a school on board.
Oh and the Treaty of Khitomer is most likely responsible for the fact that Starfleet as well as the Klingons mostly use classes of ships that were invented BEFORE the treaty: they were forbidden, without the acceptance of the other side, to build new ship classes. So nothing newer than an Excelsior-class. The ambassador was perhabs passed through by a side agreement and about the Galaxy the Klingons will most likely only have laughted. The captains most likely said to each other: "look, the cruise liner is coming" when the Enterprise D arrived. They on the other side just made their existing classes bigger to circumvent the treaty restrictions.

It was established in TNG that Guinan's people were scattered because of the Borg. I have a headcanon that when Enterprise B rescues some of her people, those ships had escaped the Borg. Whether or not directly from her planet or they were already away.
That being said, I always assumed Q had introduced the Borg to her people on purpose or accidentally.

    • @jlomesou
      @jlomesou Год назад

I always thought that too. Guinan seemed to know the danger pretty well of where Q flung the Enterprise. It was probably similar to what Q had done to the Ellurians.
Then I remember Q telling his son to never provoke the Borg. So that suggests the Borg can have some effect on the Q. And if that’s the case, why would Q shoot the Enterprise in the path of that one cube? Isn’t that considered provoking ?

    • @cindycampbell3761
      @cindycampbell3761 Год назад

@@jlomesou as for Q purposely introducing the Enterprise to the Borg, I have 2 ideas about that. Whenever a Q encounters a new species, there is an attempt to determine if this species would be able to defeat the Borg or at least severely keep them in check. Q's attempt with Guinan's people failed. He saw more potential in humans and by extension the Federation/Starfleet because of his interactions with Picard & company.
My second idea is he had knowledge that the Borg would eventually make it to the alpha quadrant. He realized that when that happened the alpha quadrant, and more specifically humanity, would be completely unprepared. By introducing them early to the Borg they were able to start learning how the Borg acted and how to defend against them.

Q "introduced" the Borg to the El-Aurians in a similar fashion as he did with the Enterprise around the time that Generations starts (with Kirk). The Borg assimilate nearly all the El-Aurians . That's how she knows what Q's about to do with the Enterprise and why she hates Q. One theory I've heard is that the Continuum felt threatened by the El-Aurians age and progress as a species and sicked the Borg on them to keep them from becoming true rivals. That's why Q hates Guinan, and any other El-Aurian.

If she got her power from being in the Nexus it would mean her past experiences with Q would have been after she was transported out. The dialog in Q Who contradicts it as when Picard asks if she knew Q she says "we have had some dealings" and Q replies "those dealings were 2 centuries ago". The events in Generations involving the Enterprise B was in the year 2293 but Q Who was in 2365 only 72 years later.
Plus Q maybe a pain in the ass in the way he does things but aside from that what he does is ultimately beneficial, Q Who gave the Federation a heads up on the Borg, gave then preparation time and ultimately led to the Borg failing to assimilate the Federation in Bobw pt1 and 2.
Right now the Federation is in a pretty dark place relative to how it was during the TNG era so it would not surprise me in the least if this was Q's typically convoluted way (as with Q Who and All Good things) of pissing people off while putting things back on track.
Oh and the reason she did not notice anything during the events in Times arrow 1 and 2 is likely because it was supposed to happen, it was part of her timeline and how she first met Picard etc.

@@paultallis5852 I thought I had heard, that Guinan was a little over 900 years old, when she tended bar on Enterprise. Assuming this was around 2350, this would have made her around 460 years old, when she was in San Francisco. She apparently was a young woman, for her species; old enough to be on her own, and to have made a fortune, some way; but still somewhat, under her Father's thumb (at least, HE thought so). So, in Earth terms, I would say that she was about 25-30, at that time; and about 60-65, on Enterprise. Considering too, that her home world had been "assimilated" by the Borg, in the meantime; she may have had to "grow up" sooner. Maybe, this is irrelevant; because Star Trek, long ago; threw all the Laws of Physics, Evolution, Time, etc.; into the dumpster. I could "logically" shoot down many Star Trek concepts, in a thousand different ways; and while these are interesting speculations; halfway across the Universe, four Hydrogen atoms still are required to make one atom of Helium (the difference in weight, is the energy released), and Evolution tends to reward the most efficient species; the way every species is equipped, is based on the most efficient means of survival.

The only problem with the Nexus theory is that Guinan encountered the Nexus in 2293, about 70 years prior to TNG. In "Q, Who" she says her previous dealings with Q were 2 centuries earlier, which would have been around the time of the NX-01.
So if her powers came from the Nexus and her encounter with Q was prior to that he'd have no reason to be wary of her.
Plus, none of the other El-Aurian refugees that were beamed out of the Nexus appear to gain abilities because of it. And Picard and Kirk don't gain similar abilities on leaving it in Generations.
What if her powers are a result of the events in Time's Arrow? She does get knocked unconscious in the cavern where the temporal rift is when the explosion causes Data to lose his head. She may have absorbed some kind of temporal energy from the explosion.

I always saw Guinan as some form of a time agent. Sometime after visiting Earth in 1893 she could have been approached by the high council of the Q continuum (because her and her race could have been seen as likely candidates for their trials at one time, like Q has been telling Picard about humans for years but they had foreseen the Borg invasion and used her and others to oversee human development Hell she could have been guided by someone to go to Earth all of those years ago in the first place not knowing that it was a Q suggesting that she go. ) or an alien race even more powerful than or on the same level as the Q to keep certain Q's in check so the universe could be at balance and she was bestowed certain abilities. Which is why Q seems to hate her because she kept him in check and spoiled his fun by restoring any damage or timeline he messed up. After decades of service to these creatures and many meetings with different Q's she could have been depowered and went back to her home planet and was there to witness and escape as the Borg invaded her planet. After being taken out of the nexus ribbon and her echo being left behind some of her powers could have returned to her on a lower level and she can perceive time changes differently than others. Her telling Picard that his real journey has never been just in the stars could mean that she always knew of a higher purpose for him which is why these aliens or even the Q themselves could have pulled the real strings and arranged her and Picard meeting in the first place. Anyway I thought that would be a fun idea.

I think that whatever explanation they finally give about her will probably not live up to 30 years of fan speculation, but the idea of Guinan being a mortal being (regardless of lifespan) with special powers doesn’t justify Q’s fear of her. He is all powerful and all knowing, so the only way he could be so intimidated by her is if she was some kind of being with power to match. At their first meeting Q implied (if not directly stating) that she was hiding her true form.

I wouldn't be surprised if Guinan were something other than an El Aurian. In the Q trilogy Greg Cox did, as Q and his "associates" fought against the Continuum he mentions seeing the Organians who could observe the conflict and disapprove of it. I also seem to recall Q mentioning in that same trilogy he actually talked to God and tried to convince God not to create humanity. In *I,Q* they end up wiping out the universe only to have another being of even more powerful to return it to normal. In the New Frontier series, when Q shows up, the navigator actually manages to resist Q's powers because the navigator has the blood of Odin in him. If I were a race like those and wanted to hide my power and live among mortals, I'd claim to be a long-lived race too just to deflect some questions.
There's also some other races that she might be as well: consider that archaeology race found by mixing the DNA scraps brought together by the 4 major powers (6-20, The Chase). I don't recall it was ever named, but if it had millions of years to evolve further, it could have developed the necessary mental powers to become a contemporary of a Q.

@@RB-ic4du Her not being El Aurian would also make sense in that the Borg would have made a huge jump forward in technology when they assimilated that race. Now the Borg are powerful but they are not "we just assimilated an ancient race of near omnipotent beings and now have all their technology" powerful suggesting that the El Aurians were not noticeably more advanced than other races. There is also the question of how such a race would blunder to the extent of all of them bar Guinan being assimilated. more likely is that she is omnipotent herself and is using the guise of being El Aurian (who are known to be long lived) to cover for the fact she survives so long. She could even have been hiding amongst their society observing them and used her powers to escape the Borg.

    • @RB-ic4du

@@laszlokaestner5766 The other thing to consider is that she may have been El Aurian, but sometime after the Borg attack on her homeworld she gained powers to bring her to a near-Q, in essence, the attack forced her to ascend. In this, Q may have been directly involved: one of their conversations mentions some dealings with him "two centuries ago". If the biggest ability of an El Aurian is to "listen", or to put it in other terms "passive access to the Force" (lacking active measures like telekinesis), then exposure to a being like a Q (possibly multiple times given her comments) may have given her the jump start to bring her towards parity with Q, who tends to be on the Continuum's s*** list for his pranks and might well have his powers dampened or restricted (this dampened state might well be true if the Q-trilogy books are actually canon, which might not be accurate given the books rarely are canon).
As for the Borg and El Aurians...I see one major problem with the whole incident. We know the El Aurians have at least warp capable ships, but they had to have something MORE than just warp, because (presumably) the El Aurian world was somewhere out in the Delta quadrant, and Guinan was on Earth at least during the 1800s (and maybe even earlier, because there was a scene when she mentioned being on Earth as a child). So logically, you would have to give the El Aurians either some insanely capable warp ships (like 9+ continuously) or transwarp capabilities. Otherwise, Guinan might well have never set foot on her homeworld and instead was told about it from others. We know she was on Earth in the 1800s, and was seen near Earth in 2293, and the attack on the El Aurian homeworld was supposed to be roughly 2265 or so, which means the refugees managed to get from homeworld to Earth in 28 years, when we know the Borg weren't quite a presence in the Alpha and Beta quandrants until Q prompted them to be focusing there (when he snapped the Enterprise towards the Borg).
Now I just hope they don't try to do a sloppy retcon and wave it all away, because the history and lore deserve better.

Guinan exists in a reality that is slightly out of phase with our own where "time" passes differently. This is why she is "so old" relative to our own timeline. It is also why Q can't hurt/affect her. During the series, we learned it wasn't Guinan *specifically* who Q fears but **her entire race**. A race with the power to detect Q's mischef/presence/timeline alterations, and there's nothing he can do about it.
BTW: The video says that the episode where The Federation finds itself at war is "in the future", but it's not. It's an alternate timeline Q created by changing the past.

My own favorite SiFi series story arc is Gakar' and Londo on Babylon 5. Now Q is another story all to himself. There is a deeper triangle between Picard, Q, and Guinan. That was established at the end of Star Trek The Next Generation. Personally I always felt Q was pushing Picard into Ascension. Showing Picard how to crossover without using death. Q has showed Picard 2 different time experiences. 1 was literally an anti-time bomb. I keep seeing Q grooming Picard on the laws of time throughout the series of Star Trek The Next Generation. Q knows the many possibilities of the future. Of course he will choose the one for his only friend in the entire universe. What Guinan will have to say about it?

Does she have Q like powers or are her powers more of the mind only (which can create a stalemate with Q)? Guinan has certain useful powers to hold off a Q, but she does not have the full godlike power of a Q, just unique powers enough to confront a Q, and also understand changes in timelines.

Read what I wrote above; its not so much she has some sort of power over him, she merely 'pierces the veil' he is creating whenever he shows up (my assumption being is that at ANY TIME he is interacting with the crew, he has side-stepped them ALL into a side-reality to show off amazing powers he doesn't really possess) Guinan realizes that they are just in a much more sophisticated version of the Holodek (The Nexus) and can 'see through it', so she can hurt Q just as people can sometimes be hurt inside the Holodek... by breaking the programming. Q can ALWAYS be hurt - he just doesn't let anyone else catch on. The reason why I like this personal theory of mine so much is because it completely explains how _The Squire of Gothos_ could have been a Q (because it's through tech & trickery they appear to be 'gods'... which we've seen in trek many times before).

I doubt that it is true that her "powers" came from the nexus. Then why didn't everyone beamed away from the nexus gain such powers? They were all from the same species on board the ships where they were beamed away from the nexus, even the protagonist of the film in Star Trek: Generations. It wouldn't make sense.
My clue is a statement from Q when he states that she is not what she appears. She might not be the same species as the rest but is in disguise, very powerful yet banned from interference. We see this a few times of beings in disguise, especially the episodes, The Dauphin, The Child, Where Silence has Lease, The Survivors, Allegiance, Transfigurations, & Imaginary Friend. So it should still be a mystery as to who or what Guinan is.

Not a professional writer, but I would say that those 'powers' only extend as far as one's own lifespan - Guinan can not see/experience/extract data from moments in time she did not exist in. For most races, this would be around a century, give or take 50 years. For Guinan's race, this becomes far more significant, and thus, her 'powers' seem so much more profound. If it takes a century or more for these abilities to even become something tangible in most sentient species, then most would never even become aware of their existence.

Long comment, but I believe a more plausible theory of Guinan & Q:
See now, I disagree with your interpretation. It makes better sense that Guinan & Q could or would be off shoots of the same original race. Q's off shoot pursuing & achieving the more narcissistic, presumingly ever living omnipotent path while Guinan's off shoot chose just a considerably longer lived lives, say 1000 years average life expectancy for instance. They would both have very similar comprehensions of time, matter, & space because of course the base sciences would be very similar, & where as Q's society more plays like a spoiled children. Guinan's society explores interacts, experiences & respects the various aspects of existence. Ie: Guinan going to Earth to explore & be apart of such a young society. As far as the Nexis, of course something like the Nexis would, for someone of Guinan's society, infinitely heighten her ability to sense all of the various aspects & of course changes of existence.
    So time path of progression:
Guinan met Picard on earth in the past, experienced the Nexis *(got her senses & abilities heightened by the Nexis)*, ran into that Q, & other Q's, was less effected by Q's games, able to either see or even just intuitively feel through them, probably foiled more then one of Q's games, & then they met again during TNG. Guinan by then of course being all to familiar to the experience of Q's presence, or even close enough proximity.
