    Phone addiction. Is it real?
The average person spends more than 24 hours per week on their phones. Younger millennials and generation Z spend 5 hours or more per day using their devices.
Now, don’t get me wrong, phones have many valuable and indispensable attributes. The purpose of this endeavor was to spend less time in the virtual world and more time in the real world.

Heres another idea I thought of. Not sure if this will help but Im going to try it as an experiment at least.
Delete the facebook and youtube apps from your phone. It discourages you from having an easy way to check it often; it forces you to use your browser. XD

Genuine question. Who's channel would be considered more (financially and in general) sustainable? Your channel requires constantly buying new technology, but at the same time is never outdated. Nate's channel on the other hand doesn't require buying anything, but sometimes topics get fairly repetitive and have been done before.

Here is how I did it:
    1. Charge your phone overnight to get it to 100%
    2. When you wake up unplug it
    3. That's all the charge you get for the day, no recharge. You have to use it wisely, once its dead it's dead for the day.
    4. When you go to bed repeat the cycle
After a while it really does show a difference :)
Edit: some people are saying they have a big battery, then I suggest doing this over a week, like not charging your phone other than on Saturday nights.

I faced my phone addiction head-on without planning to. About a month ago, my phone broke, and then I shelled out my entire paycheck for a new iPhone 12, only for it to be stolen. At first, I was furious and felt like I could not get anything done without it. I eventually got my old phone to work again, but this time, I decided to see what would happen if I decided not to re-download my social media apps. It's only been about a week, but I have already felt a massive difference in my productivity, social life, and mental health. I am honestly so grateful that I had all of those issues with my phone. It took not having any phone at all to realize that I can survive and thrive without constantly checking my phone all day. And on top of that, I also realized that I was never happier with the newest phone, it was pretty and shiny, but it is just a phone.

One thing I've found to be really helpful is treating my phone somewhat like a landline. When I work from home, I keep my phone essentially docked in one location. I find that the physical space between my phone and myself creates mental space for resisting the knee jerk habit of always checking the phone. Initially, this was pretty hard to do but I created a few automations on Apple Shortcuts that would detect when I had moved my phone and give me a subtle nudge to place it back. I've found that overall I just feel more peaceful with the physical distance.

The problem is a lot of us do our work with phones, and then when we’re done with our work on our phones, we rely on it for socialization to keep in touch with friends and family. I think just by trying to leave it in the other room rather than in your pocket when you’re not in work or social mode at least will cut your phone time down enough to where you won’t be so addicted to be mindlessly checking it 24/7.

From time to time I also make myself a day without the phone- I just turn it off and leave it somewhere and I just see how I function without it-and what was a surprise to me is that I function much better without having my phone with me all the time and it motivates me even more to reduce my screentime and I know that many people need their phones for work etc but I really recommend trying it out during weekend.

The best advice I could give, is always be busy. You can only be addicted to your smartphone if you have the time to use it. Some people are always on their phones and don’t prioritize the things they should. If you have work, do work, not use your phone. Remain objective.

    Based on my experience :
1). Being an introvert, I always hated to talk with someone in any social media platform so it gave me less interest to use social media apps ( facebook, instagram, etc.) and after some months I deleted those apps.
2). I always kept my phone's battery less than 30% after I figured out its addiction is hazardous to my lifestyle and later, I daily felt less motivated to use phone because of my phone's battery.
And that's how I have cured my phone addiction.
One thing I want to add is I still use youtube for learning and knowledge purpose but it doesn't affect anything bad to my daily routine.

You're so right about "needing it while it's blocked". I used to use productivity apps like Forest, that would block my phone for a few hours while I studied, and while it was great at first, I quickly realized that it had one big flaw: I couldn't use my calculator or refer to a calendar. Or sometimes, I was in the library and needed to Google something, but I couldn't. So instead, I learned to willingly limit my usage. I don't use grayscale or limit what's on my phone too much, but over time, I managed to reduce my usage from 6-7H per day, to an average of 2. Now some days do go up, but that's mostly because I do use my phone as my camera to film my RUclips videos, but other than that, I can't recall the last time I spent all day scrolling through Instagram!

Turning off notifications and "Batching" your cell phone time is HUGE, great call! I like what you said about turning off notifications, letting yourself check your phone/your texts maybe once every couple of hours, and absolutely batching together replying to texts and DMs. These days all of us creators/influencers/entrepreneurs have SO many interactions with our clients, collaborators, friends, etc. that you really need to control your inter-personal communication and leave plenty of "solo time" where you can ACTUALLY Get. Shit. Done! Hence why batching is so effective. You rock dude, love all of your content -- keep it coming! And the tips have always been super helpful to all of us :)

I use a lot of the tips he has given. The grey scale is new for me. Might try this one out.
Another thing that has helped me a lot too is removing social media apps that I still use off the phone background. So every time I want to use it I have to search for it. Another tip for Apple users is setting time limitations on apps - it makes you much more aware how quickly time adds up throughout the day:)

I love the idea of making Instagram more like a newspaper rather than being super duper enticing by putting your phone into gray scale. I think it helps you see that the true color of the world is outside, that's where life is happening and most opportunities lie. I just put my phone into gray scale. Excited to give this a try. :)

Great filming and editing job! And yes, wearing a watch is something I plan to do as well, since I've noticed this has made me feel more dependent on my phone :)
