I'm from Portugal. I grew up kinda feeling that "spanish" guitar was a bit "too spanish" for me. Years went by, the internet was a thing, so suddenly I could experience stuff from all over the world. Japanese traditional music became one of my favourites. But then with Alexandra I went back to my roots and I realized this kind of music was in my heart all along. Now, my feeling is that I am so glad that anyone who grows up outside of Portugal/Spain is able to become a master of that guitar playing that is absolutely 100% sure to touch our hearts. I'm honoured and I wish more people from Portugal and Spain would keep up this music tradition that just sings to your soul. Cheers all and thanks, Alexandra :)
I am American. This song is brilliant, and Alexandra plays it masterfully.
Why "Spanish" guitar between inverted commas? It is indeed a Spanish guitar.
@@highhopes1616 Indeed! Modern one was created on 1850 in Spain as an evolution from the mandolin. Roots goes back to XIV century (vihuela)
My dad plays this exact way I love how slow it is from other covers that are really fast and that kinda takes the emotion away but this one you can totally feel the emotion
Every time I hear this piece or play it myself, it fells like a bliss of solitude... The tune of this piece just makes this rough and competitive world so easy, kind and simple in moments and express a generous and pious love story!
I have played this song countless times over 17 years
It was the first romance that I had with a song
Fully understand ❤
This song has been playing in my head for over 35 years, ever since I played Jet Set Willy 2 on C64. I finally got a classical guitar this week, been over 30 years since I last had one, and my first, even if very ambitious, goal is to learn this song.
How's it going, you should have made some progress?
La première partie est très abordable... Courage
My first (and only) guitar teacher told me few players cradle the guitar this way, and of course a plectrum (pick) must be employed. Caveat Emptor. Beautiful cover, thank you!
Beautiful, gracefully played young lady.
I've been playing this one for almost 42 years. By far, my favorite.
Oh Alexandra, this is most beautiful indeed. It is always my pleasure to listen to you play. ❤👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Beautiful music and a joy to see your playing.👏👏
This should be the first video when searching Spanish Romance.
She is an absolutely brilliant classical guitarist, but her interpretation of this is very bland, well played but dull.
@@loveclaasiclguitar2402 I think differently, her expression is easily seen. I believe the expression is missed on you my friend.
@@loveclaasiclguitar2402 Well if ‘bland’ = superb tone colour and quality, technically brilliant and beautiful but sparingly used vibrato - then I agree, totally bland. I prefer ‘under-stated’, Alexandra has let the piece express itself, whereas many other classical guitarists try to embellish this piece and get it wrong. This version is hauntingly beautiful, the way it’s meant to be.
@brianferguson1888 "Superb tone colour", really? Now I know you are going full nonsense. The reaches people find when the musician is pretty....
I donated to her Patreon for the last year because I've used a lot of her performances for memorization purposes, she's brilliant, this interpretation is not
@@nathanbolton4139 oddly I don't think so, if this was a black screen with the name John Smith attached you wouldn't have given this performance a second look. As I said before it's fine, but very flat
dear Alexandra,
When I see you, it's as if the skies open up. The sound of your guitar is like a beautiful symphony that serenades my soul.
🌹🥰💐💐💐
Such a nice country home. I'd love to be there ❤
I recently learned this song and it makes me feel so loved and warm and I feel so sleepy even if it’s the middle of the day. I think it’s becoming my favorite song to play.
Also I love your guitar playing
Magniificent! I've memorized this piece....but I'm still learning to play it! Your rendition is beautiful. Thanks!
No pretense, funny chords, just the purest music, thank you dear lady.. 🤗
ありがとうございます!
I'm currently studying this part and I really love the nuances you put in this part, great example, thank you.
Sorry for my English... But I want to express my respect and delight of this performance. I played guitare (my second instrument... at my music school)... and i know, that this composition isn't technically hard... but i remember how (and with whom) i learned this partiture. Thirty years ago... and i really support Alexandra in her choice of repertoire... and I absolutely love her smile, the position of her hands, the grace of her fingers. It's just something. In her performance, even a simple sketch will be majestic...
Absolutely lovely. A nice way to cap off my midnight hour of listening to music on RUclips. Salutations from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA. 💜 💙
To this beautiful melody the flowers will dance ❤❤❤
Ahh, one of my favorites! Thank you Ms Whittingham!
I love you Alexandra! Great performance

Excellent piece for such a talent musician!!!❤❤❤❤
it's great to be immersed in this relaxing music .. all my fatigue seems to vanish and now it's just relaxing💖💖💖
When the most beautiful woman in youtube plays beautiful music, it's mesmerizing, When the video is over, her face and her music is still very much in your head. They will stay in your heart.
Bella pieza musical en las mágicas manos de la hermosa Alexandra. Gracias por existir. Un abrazo de tu admirador y ecologista del Perú, Luis Torino Mendizabal
I like this version. so smooth and original...
This may be my favorite. Everything is perfection. Brava❣

The colorful floral backdrop💐🌻🌺⚘🌼🌸 and rustic architectural setting visually enhance your wonderful performance 🎵🎶 of this iconic piece ❤🤗🤗

Спасибо большое тебе, Александра! Моя одна из любимейших мелодий. Ты прекрасно ее исполняешь.

Three playlists I always place you in, Alexandra, one with the instrument💞...
both music and the musician are beautiful
This is great! I was just learning this piece and used your version as a reference. It's so well paced and lyrical.
Great and Beautiful Piece of Music so Beautifully Played 🎉....I played this when i was having Classical Guitar Lessons bsck in the day !.. Little did i lnow that i would end up teaching Guitar later in life and this was always on the Agenda 🎸🎸🎸🎸
Just like Tabei, I think it this song sounds way better in the tempo you played. Simply beautiful.
Keep playing Alexandra 👏🏼👏🏼
Beautifully played! This lovely piece, though, reminds me of a game that my kids played on our C-64 many years ago. It was called Jet Set Willy, and used this music. The association sticks! I believe it was also used in a film called 'Forbidden Games'.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful work of art!
I used to play through this song and The Clap every single day as my two "technique" songs to help me keep good fingering / hand posture and fix my "pinky-itis".
All of her music is top shelf!
Fantastic. I use to be able to play the first 30 secs or so of this...
Beautiful music that when you hear it makes you want to cry without knowing why.
MAGNIFICENT ART! THANK YOU! BLESSINGS AND PEACE!

Such beautiful playing. ❤❤❤
love the Anamorphic cinema quality video Beautiful
Simplemente espectacular bravo amiga gracias por esta actuación de guitarra
Magnificent interpretation!
Narciso Yepes first presented this piece as an arrangement of an "anonymous romance" from folklore, (which later became "Spanish Romance") and then claimed to have composed it at the age of seven in 1934 as a gift for his mother, But it was much more likely an arrangement, as manuscripts predating his birth have since been found, with the title "Romance de Sor", suggesting that the author may have been Fernando Sor (real name Joseph Fernando Macario Sors), a Spanish guitarist and composer born in Barcelona on February 13, 1778. Other possible authors include Matteo Carcassi, etc.).
Outstanding ❤
A beauty queen and concert perfomer as well...Congratulations...Wooooooooow
Alexandra Whittingham is very beautiful.
You must be in Cornwall here, judging by the granite walls, I am also from west Cornwall. So many people play differing versions of this song; playing the first stanza first and then the second once and back to the first to finish. You played this very nicely!😊
Brano bellissimo, suonato in modo stupendo. Grazie
Lindo! Eu já toquei essa música. (Beatiful, I've already had played this music).
Valeu!
Right now I'm listening to the most amazing cover of this magical music.
Thank you Alexandra
👍👏🌹🌹🌹💕.
alexandra you are play verry sweet song thank you .
Brilliant! Of course, the South of France fits perfectly your beautiful rendition, bravissima👋👋👋
You are the best I've ever heard play
Isn't this Heaven? A beautiful Spanish tune, played by a gorgeous British girl.
Thanks very much for this haunting piece. In Spain we call it Romance Anónimo. It is extremely popular here, although not as easy as people think.
Is it really anonymous? Could it be fantasized by Isaac Albeniz? I hope you'll let me know... Blessings...!!!
It is an extremely popular piece in Spain, not just among guitarists and one everyone would like to play. We say it is anonymous but there are many theories about its composer. Spanish guitarist Narciso Yepes played in the film Jeux Interdits and managed to register it in the Spanish registry as one of his compositions. The piecee was also played by Vicente Gómez in the film Blood and Sand, starred by Tyrone Power. There are theories that Miguel Llobet and Daniel Fortea (I believe both had studied with Tarrega) composed it without much evidence. Another theory is that it was composed by Fernando Sor, although the harmony of the Romance is very different from that of Sor's compositions. Some people think that Sor might have played it after his stay in Russia and that somebody else later arranged the harmony for Sor's melody. It is also said the piece could be a popular Ukranian or Russian piece in its origins and that it was eventually harmonised in Spain. All I know it is a beautiful piece to listen to and not easy to perform. @@artiesst666
Very much obliged with your responding adequately...!!!

Maravilloso... felicitaciones 💐🎈
The first piece of classical music I was thought when I was 13 , first part I can still play ,2nd part I struggle to remember,I'm 63 now whit arthritis so don't play much ,the teacher discovered I wasn't reading the music but copied him and learnt by ear and gave me a choice, either learn to read music or leave , sadly I had to leave ,not a good student in any type of school.
Qué bella interpretación y qué bella eres! 💐
Bravo, you played very well.
BRAVISIMO ES IMPRESIONANTE Y MUY AGRADABLE SENTIR LA LIMPIEZA QUE LOGRA DE LA GUITARRA UNA GENIA
