    I knew Aaron. I use to spar with him in Cincinnati sometimes drive him home. Sweet guy so nice it hurts wondering how it went wrong for him. Hardest worker in the gym I ever seen and I seen alot of champs in the gym. As an amatuer he did three shadow boxing, six rounds on the speed bag, six on heavy bag, six jumping rope, ten rounds of sparring, five mile run every morning. After the gym he would go downstairs and play basketball and he was just an amatuer.

    Yes I remember Aaron Pryor and he definitely will be missed. He was one of the great boxers of all time. He belongs in that same category with Sugar Ray Leonard, Ali, etc. The difference was he was underrated and in the beginning of his career he was not well represented and fighters were ducking him. Aaron was short changed, he didn't get the big pay day fights like Sugar Ray Leonard.

      I grew with Aaron Pryor and his cousins-Hardy Nelson and Richard Nelson. I was the Karate Kid in neighborhood called "Show be' before the movie came out. I met the Bully actor in Karate Kid in California. The KIDS in the movie only had 3 months training for the The Karate Kid movie. I was offered movies while I was in Cincinnati. I just think that It was TALK. Anyway, I was the REAL Karate Kid in my neighborhood. I beated up my Brown Belt instructor until I trained with this Black Belt instructor called Posey. He was a tough one instructor. Anyway, Aaron Pryor was far in his boxing career and I was far in my Karate as teenager . We had always commented one of another anytime we saw one another. I cheered for him when he won the World boxing champion . Most G.O.A.T.s of people of color not are recognized in Cincinnati even though some of contributed a lot there .I am a former Ex-USMC Cpl. I brought home many trophies to my home town in Karate and I received the teen of the month in Cincinnati from Black Enterprise magazine and a post pic too of me. Anyway, Aaron Pryor was a great professional boxer. He deserves more recognition than He has received. In fact, people of color including the poor European-Whites Cincinnati and the Tri-state are not honor and recognized for their contributions to them. Of course, they might pick a few of them. Now California will. I love California.

    • @Rspenesmit
      @Rspenesmit 8 лет назад +2

      Exactly, but the way these people talk about Pryor, it's like he was the greatest ever, but he never fought anyone that was really good in their Prime, he fought a 31 yr old Arguello getting closer to the end and well over his best weight an Cervantes at the end, still Cervantes put him down in the fight, and without Lewi's special PCP & Amphetamine bottle in the corner, and Cocaine before the fight, he might have felt Arguello's huge punches and lost that one, look at the Punch Alexis threw that bent Pryor's head straight back, would have koed anyone, but Pryor sprung up and laughed it off and came forward, like it never hit him, he was put down 8x in his career by bums, at the least that punch should have knocked him down or back into the ropes, off balance anything but made him act like he never felt it, I am and was a Pryor Fan, living in cinci at the time, but other than 2 fighters over 30, he never fought 1 decent guy in his whole career, he even avoided Saoul mamby the #1 contender in his own division, watch the Gary Hinton fight and a couple of Montilla's & Johnsons good rounds against Pryor, will show you what Leonard and Beinitez would have done to him, they wither his storm then Leonard might TKO him or win by UD, Benitez withers it and Wins by UD, duran goes to war with him for a few rounds then Knocks him COLD< hearns does to him what he did to Duran, he could box an had 1 Punch devastating KO Power, Pryor was 20 or so and fully matur physically and mentally, and Hearns was 17 and skinny without the great power he would eventually find and a far cry for the hitman when Pryor beat him as an Amateur, so that fight says nothing, Howard Davis Jr. beat pryor twice as an amateur and I'm sure that would have meant nothing if they had fought as Pros, I would take Pryor in that one as pros.

      Some of those clips were painful to watch, especially one that he was on the nod. I was able to get issued press credentials during boxing glory days with all those great fighter. Pryor was hands down one of the most gracious guys out there for the fans. I watched a fan trying to get a pic of him. Pryor stopped what he was doing, mugged the camera as he shook his clenched fist at it, and with all the other fans walking between Pryor and the camera guy Pryor still stood there with his pose and waited a good 3 minutes until the guy could get his pic. That’s what I hope people remember him as along with his great skills in the ring. He was a first class gentleman and always giving to the fans. Great guy...

    This man Aaron Pryor was the Boogeyman of the lightweight & welterweight division. Hearn had a taste and had his ass taxed by Pryor and didnt want anymore and Ray Leonard just flat out said fuck it, I'm cool and straight up avoided him. Leonard's camp brought him in as sparring and I think it was to see if Ray could hang and as you can see Ray never fought Pryor or invited him back to another camp.

      From consulting medical and other experts, I saw a show that came to the conclusion that a combination of PCP & Amphetamines would help, the PCP would make him feel little to no pain and give energy, the amps would open him up for better breathing and air flow.

    Never truly lost in his prime and just 1 lost at that. He was so exciting I remember telling somebody once that he's the only fighter that when you knock him down, that the 8 count is for the the other fighter not him. I mean you virtually had to about knock him down to get a break because he was all over you. The thing is though he could really box and be really patient if he wanted too.

    I loved Aaron back in the day. If he would have been surrounded with a GREAT TEAM. You would N E V E R forget his name. I was a huge 147-lb Fan in the late 70 - 80's with Roberto Duran, and Marvelous Marvin being my two favorites. " Hitman Hearns " was also in the conversation. I admittedly was never a Sugar Fan, B U T ! ! ! Even Ray Leonard would have stumped Floyd. I would have soiled myself from laughing at Aaron K I L L I N G Floyd in the ring. B E L I E V E me Floyd never fought an opponent the caliber of Aaron Pryor. The ORIGINAL " H A W K "

      Your a total idiot with no boxing knowledge at all, n December 1980, Pryor rejected an offer of $500,000 to fight Sugar Ray Leonard for the WBC welterweight championship because he wanted more money. When the WBC raised the offer to $750,000, he rejected that as well.[3] Pryor signed to fight WBC light welterweight champion Saoul Mamby in a unification bout for $1 million. The bout was tentatively scheduled for February 7, 1981. However, the fight fell apart when the promoter, Harold Smith, disappeared amid allegations that he was involved in a $21.3 million fraud against Wells Fargo National Bank. Smith, whose real name was Ross Fields, was later sentenced to ten years in prison after he was convicted of 29 counts of fraud and embezzlement.[4][5]
      Pryor was then offered $750,000 to fight Roberto Duran in April 1981, but Pryor turned it down because his new attorney told him not to sign anything until he worked out a new contract with manager Buddy LaRosa. By the time they worked out a new agreement, the chance to fight Duran was gone.[6]
