But I do know that he worked out of Grumman in NY where I still live now. It's cool to see the other comments here on their family member's contributions.
“We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and the others, too.” - President John F. Kennedy.
“Many dream of going to space and many have even raced to get there. But there is only a small number of people who have accomplished this almost impossible task. This is The History of the Moon Landing 100% Speedrun.”
There are only 66 years between man’s first flight and man’s first steps on another celestial body. A person born in 1895 could very well have read about the first in the paper and then watched the second on television. Orville Wright said he was confident that flight across the Atlantic was possible, but he suggested it would take literally a million years. It took 24
Correction: it would take 16, but the flight had to start up in Canada and ending up crashing in a bog in Ireland. It was a Vickers-Vimy Bomber outfitted with extra fuel tanks and carrying some mail (later used after the crash to prove they were actually coming from Canada and not crash landing English). Edit for clarification: 16 years for the first Transatlantic flight from Kittyhawk, not 16 years for first flight to humans in space.
