I built a 10 kW Michell-Banki turbine of almost identical design back in 1979 and installed it on a 9 meter head at Lonnavale in Tasmania, Australia. It was continuously used until 2010 when it was decommissioned. These Michell-Banki cross flow turbines are a very efficient and practical solution for low head applications and are a rather neglected class. My machine was based on the Ossberger Turbinenfabrik layout with adjustable inlet gate as shown in this design.
