    Thanks for the video! Really clear. I was really scratching my head on why my zero point in Candle was inside my stock until I re-watched it and noticed the bit about setting the origin!! thank you!!!

    Thanks so much, I'm coming over from Fusion 360, you explained how to set origins really clearly. Before it was so confusing with the part moving around and operations looking like they are offset. Thanks again.

    Very interesting, thank you. I am happy with your choice of how to divide de subject of videos, and focusing here on different path job for each stock position.
    It actually helps a lot to figure out how to use a plasma or laser cutter with rectangular tubes.

      So far
      1> Using pycam, heekscnc/cad: I have produced a brass nameplate for museum quality model ships.
      2> Using Veusz to SVG, Heekscad: I have create acrylic heart shapes with "Love" for a number of gifts to relatives.
      3> Using HeeksCNC/CAD: I generated a "prototype" fishing lures/crank bait from wood.
      4> Using FreeCAD and verified on a LinuxCNC simulator: I employed knowledge transferred from your FreeCAD Path videos 2..7. The results is a set of NGC files that yield a box with an interior pocket and a mating lid. The target material is wood. The top of the lid will be used as a surface for engraving. This project (two NGC files) has not yet been submitted to wood stock. That will occur in October.
      5> Next Design Project: Using FreeCAD: Convert an STL model from OpenSCAD of the "prototype" fishing lure into a suitable solid shape to use for generating NGC of reasonable quality. Let me know if you have any useful suggestions.

      Regarding 5> Next Design Project: Using FreeCAD: Convert an STL model from OpenSCAD of the "prototype" fishing lure. I just finished the "first" fishing lure prototype using the "waterline" libocl library. It worked well in the CAM phase. Transferring the ngc to a linuxcnc resulted a blow and go run the first time. Next week when I have time to run the Sherline CNC I will make some swarf. Thanks again for providing the sliptonic videos and the inputs to the forum for FreeCad. The ships hull was helpful as was the discussion on activating the libocl library.
      The FreeCad program is a big step beyond pyCAM and HeeksCNC. But I think that by going through those two tools I was able to learn enough to really appreciate FreeCad and what it does for the user.

    any ideas on how to cut out gears. Right now I create gears on freecad (easy using gear library), 3D print to make sure gear reduction is correct under load. But now I want to cut out the gears in foam, using cnc 3018. Then I can cast them out of aluminum using the lost foam method. Problem is how to use the path workbench to follow the gear teeth and cut out gears. Thanks

    It would probably be good to give path base-bodies some different default color to help users quickly visually understand what they are looking at and would probably also make it more clear to understand this concept

    • @1pcfred
      @1pcfred 6 лет назад

      I was thinking the exact same thing while watching the video. The whole Body base body concept seems unduly confusing, but I feel there may be a rational for it? I know if I was using the software and the part was jumping around like it appears to be doing I'd think something was going wrong.

    • @sliptonic
      @sliptonic  6 лет назад

      That's a very good idea. For now, I'll make sure to use color better in the videos.

    •  6 лет назад

      not a good idea with forcing colors - as i for example use colors to differentiate materials or bodys in the first place..
      the jumping occurs because the view is not set / reset to the correct location offset...
      i have made a quick test - and if you toggle the world axis cross (View -> Toggle Axis Cross)
      you can see that the original Body stays at his place - and the hole Path thing gets moved/rotated to the new alignment.
      So only thing to do is to handle the view relocation/rotation if the workbench switches the visibilities...
      in theory this should be really easy ;-)

    Dear Ladies,
    I take advantage of his patience and knowledge, I'm using Freecad 0.20.2 with Mac3 in my cnc. After several attempts to create the g_code .tap, .nc, .ncc, I tried to correct the code by replacing the g90 command in g91.1 and I managed to get something appreciable, I tried tinkering here and there to solve it but no i found a solution.
    Sure of your help, thank you and greetings.

    How to delet a Job

  • @GateWay-ky6xq
    @GateWay-ky6xq 5 лет назад

    None of this works in FreeCAD 0.18.3.10 ( latest build ) ..................... I can't even get past generating a path!
    Tried to reduce size of bounding box from the default 1.0mm to 0.0mm - maybe that's intentional, and you should be using the 'use solid' instead. You can get it to work but it throws you out of the setup everytime, and you have to go back to the job and edit it!. Bit annoying actually.
    As far as setting up the 'origin' point, it's nowhere to be seen and the settings are all greyed out!
    Also, it keeps on throwing me out of the 'Path' workbench back into the 'Part Design' workbench!
    And what's with the second part appearing!? ................. I loose the part I'm working with ( trying to setup tool paths ), and I end up with the original body!?
    Bit confused about that!!!
    Personally, I don't think that FreeCAD path is ready for the masses yet! All I wanted to do was to cut a 90mm hole ...................... after spending a couple of days trying just about everything, I failed miserably : (
    It shouldn't be that difficult to cut a hole!

    Is this .18? Because .19 does not work this smoothly, is buggy, the tool editor is broken, there are extra steps all overt the place, and crashes often. I've tried the .18 appimage from the github but for some reason when I fire it up no text displays at all. My first experience with freecad was with .13, and then .14 for 3D printing, and they worked great. Took a few years off, and now I'm back and I'm starting to hate this program. It keeps getting more complicated without a clear need for it, and they're breaking it in the process.
    My next stop is to compile .18 from source, and if that works I'll just keep doing that.
    If anybody from FreeCAD is reading this, if you need to add a feature, how about you make what he doing necessary and automate rotating Z, otherwise just bugfix what's already there AND LEAVE IT ALONE FOR A WHILE. I'm now on my second day of trying to CAM a 70mmX70mm box that also has some text all the way through the bottom. It has to be flipped over to mill both sides. I'll be lucky if it doesn't become three.

      Yes, this video is getting pretty long in the tooth. 0.19 has changed a lot of things. I have all kinds of plans to redo some of these videos but I keep running out of time. I highly recommend using 0.19 rather than 0.18. There are many MANY important changes in 0.19 including App::Links.
      For Path, 0.19 includes the new Toolbit system. The old tool library system is being deprecated because it can't handle any kind of special tools, lathe tools, or other attributes that are needed like flute count for calculating feed rates. The toolbit system is still new and might have some rough edges but is lightyears ahead of the old system. Many people (including me) are using toolbits regularly.
      0.19 will remain unchanged except major bug fixes until 0.20 is released. Progress marches on.

      @@sliptonic dude, I've got nothing at all against you, and a whole of thanks for putting this up. Even with the changes they've made you have been VERY helpful.
      I changed my strategy, I remodeled the part without the text(took me a day to figure out how to model it in), and instead went with a shapstring and the engraver in Path. Now I just have to trick the engraver into a 12mm depth. Then the text gets filled with epoxy. Then I flip the part and machine the second side.

      Don't I feel like a twit. Your name is all over the FreeCAD forums. I'm not backing off anything I said. I may have been more tactful, but honestly probably not.
      Mainly because when I try to do that engraving operation I am getting this no matter what I do: RuntimeError: Path Simulation: Error in tool geometry - ToolBit002
      It's a 1/8in 2flute downcut bit, and no matter what I try I get that. Well, it's much longer but I don't know if all of it will fit. I entered that into a search engine and found this thread: "Toolbits. SERIOUS EFFORT NEEDED"
      So still broken?

      No worries. People usually speak out of frustration, not malice. This isn't a known problem. RUclips comments are a terrible place to do support because we can't attach files or images. But if I was to take a guess, I would say there's something wrong in your toolshape file. The toolshapes are just freecad documents. You can open and edit them like any other document.
      During the development of the toolbit feature, the way we handle those shapes changed. We wanted to be able to handle both absolute and relative references to shapes and also allow the user to have custom shapes and custom locations for their shapes. So it's possible you're pointing to an old version of the endmill shape file.
