Is this heaven?
Beautiful
Pure bliss
I feel like they were almost being sarcastic producing that intro
At the end Chino talks about how much he loves music and that it's what he lives for. I just met him March 31st in San Francisco, Ca. after a †††'s show and he came out and talked to me. I had my trusty acoustic guitar and asked if he'd sing over a song i wrote. Without hesitation he said "Let me hear what you got..!" I started playing and he was singing along, coming up with words at the top of his head! Great time!!! This man really loves music!!
Thanks, a moment i'll never forget!
That's so fucking cool.
Thanks.. i'll never forget!!!
thats a kool story, bro.
Thanks.. nothing like hanging out with one of your major influences for a bit!!
“Snot rags.” Nice save Chino.
Alex Menendez I like how he smells them when picks them up.
"these aren't mine"
🤣🤣🤣 I came to see if anyone caught that too😂
@@rqneo5361 😂😂
Wait they werent snot rags?💀💀
i love how chino can tell that a snot rag isn't his just by smelling it.
Love this 😂
Hahhaaa
I have a feeling those aren’t just snot rags…

"Moody music" Is the best way to describe Deftones really. When I need to feel a certain emotion I have a Deftones song for it.
Absolutely agree!
It's just really cool to get Chinos opinions on his music, especially back then (Pre-Saturday Night Wrist).
I've enjoyed how the emotions evolved.
Exactly
Slagtheangry aka Shoegaze. As in, makes you feel like looking down at your shoes emotional
thats not what shoegaze means
Chino looks really friendly
agressive music but yes, he is simple person
Jose RL not always agressive ☺
HE IS HIS WHOLE FAMILY IS....I LIVE NEXT DOOR TO HIS MOM SISTER AND STEP DAD...IN SACRAMENTO
LELAND LEE Dude you're SO lucky!
LELAND LEE whhhhaaat that’s crazy tell him I said wuddup!!
The 90's were so pure, It's hard to explain... man those were Good times. This old tape was awesome to watch. Me and my first love listened to the deftones every day, I'm married and happy but I miss the simplicity of those times.
Maximum Black I have to agree, it's never going to be same...
even though I'm too young, looking back at them they seem like way simpler times.
I understand what you’re trying to convey here. I miss my childhood and the experiences I had in the 80’s and 90’s. Pure is a good word to use.
iShredZ iShredz they were, I was born in 93 but raised with no smartphones and remmeber everything perfectly I loved the 90’s
Yep
i don’t know what it is but Chino is just so genuine and pure
When she asks him where he sees himself in 10-20 years, it makes me sad cause nobody had any idea the massive loss of Chi that would inevitably happen. I am glad Deftones are still making music, just miss seeing Chi as part of the group.
Sergio Vega is still a good replacement, and now that Deftones released Gore, they still have Eros to release in the future. I just hope they'll release it fast enough like in two years at best, maybe. They've kept the album on the shelf for so long...
@@yvesheinrich5013 I feel like Chi's brother who taught him bass would have been a better replacement. but nothing can replace Chi's energy and screams on stage
@@eyelesscrown7346 Didn't know he even had one. Well, can't say I disagree to that, and yes, Chi's presence in the stage is unmatched. He was one and only.
what happens
@@woods2872 chi was in a car accident in 2008 that put him in a coma. He died 4 years later.
Steph had a manbun before it was a hipster thing!
yes! I noticed that too
cave digger I was going to comment but I had to search before I did so :) lol
Complete with the neck beard look lol!
That look of Chino's while he's singing - looks like he's staring at something far away in the distance, that only he can see
aaaaaawaaaaaay FAR! aaaaaawaaaaaay I don't know where just far!
Well put
stephen looks straight out of 2016
You're actually right
With The Man Bun Lol
No, that is just Millennials emulating all the good stuff from 1998.
Gen Z is taking over late 90's metal fashion these days. Got myself a little custom made Deftones hoodie :)
maybe the originator of the bun
Chino is so chill
God, I wish I was born in the 80's just so I could be at my current age in the 90's...
I was born in 88 but still too late as I was in elementary all through the 90s. First saw Deftones in 2006 before SNW came out and I hate that album haha
@@whitehaireddevil1 SNW is one of my favorites by them 😭
Aaliyah A Really? Wow I hated the sweet sound it has. For me it’s ATF and White Pony all the way
I wish I was my current age around the time this was filmed. I feel like I missed out on a good time and it makes me sad. (I'm 15 btw)

Chino was asked the question "where do you see yourself in 20 years?" He said "still hopefully making music. Maybe not in this band but something to do with music it's the love of my life. Even if it's working in a record store." Shit only 3 years to go until the 20th anniversary of this video and Deftones are STILL together. They've even surpassed the record stores Chino, most anyway. Awesome interview and band. I love Deftones!!! :-)
Yea it's crazy they've been a band well over 20 years now and still a band aside from the normal band issues they've actually never had a member quit the band which is pretty amazing. What did you mean by surpassed the record store though? Like he didn't have to work at one? Is that what you're saying lol.
+Alex Majano No I mean there are barely any record stores in existence. Most people download their music which has made the stores obsolete.
+Jon Yeager actually there's thousands of record/music stores
I shop at a lot to buy my music. I don't download anything, I use RUclips to find out about different music or my usual artists. Online ordering, music stores and RUclips is pretty much the only shit for me.
You'd actually see more stores that sell music if you'd go out and look, unless you live in Tim buck too in the middle of no where.
Mr Oi Oi Oi I live in Philadelphia. There are still record stores but so many have closed because of downloadable music. Sorry about my hyperbole earlier my friend.
Gore sounds great on vinyl! As does their whole catalog. I'm glad there are still some brick and mortar record shops around!
7:59 20years had passed, and you're still in deftones. thank you chino.
The best times of your lives without knowing it.
God, he's so pure and sweet. Id do anything for Chino.
That Star wars lunchbox though.
His voice is so angelic
this video gives me comfort and youth!!!
same here :)
+DeineLieblingskathy :)
oh man i miss the intimacy like this. damn the 90's were awesome
more than 20 years later i'm sitting here watching this to get away from class. it's my comfort video. serotonin booster. they couldn't possibly know back then how damn important deftones would come to be to so many people. chino - you say music is your life, that it inspires you to live. 20 years later you continue inspiring people to live with your music, and that is worth more than anything. it's so fucking beautiful. i'm ever grateful to these guys.
22 years later, Deftones is still alive.
Abe looks like he's 16
Chino is the best singer.
+Tony Riccio no this whole galaxy.
You are so wrong.
Not even close
@@AroundThePony1 naw we right 💁🏽♀️
This probably my favorite Deftones interview.
The European filmmakers of the 90s had it all! If they were interviewing an American band, their company would pay them to get to the story (in this case, an off day during a midwest lag of a tour) all the way to bumf*ck Ohio to spend an entire day with the band and ask them questions they usually don't get asked.
He talks so silly and goofy I love it
Stephen carpenter had that hairstyle way before anybody in 2017.
3:16 Could you imagine as a deftones fan just walking down the street or driving by and seeing that just them playing in the front yard.
It does show to some degree how much they love music because I assume they made enough to retire many years ago.
I've always been a musical person playing a lot of instruments but I've wanted to sing for so long, after hearing this guy sing and the chills his voice gave me he pushed me over the edge and I pestered my parents to get singing lessons for me and they said no and shot me down for it, so I went behind their backs and bought them with my saved money on the side and now here I am learning all the deftones songs singing my heart out, its a new found passion of mine, I love it
+Sebastian Richards follow your dreams homie.
^^^That's the kind of story that gets told in interviews later on in life after you've become super successful for following your dreams. Cheers
In a similar boat. play guitar, drums, and (sorta) piano. All self taught and teaching self to sing. Definitely a journey.
Pretty much exactly what happen to me, Chino has an impacting style
Man this is so inspiring thanks for posting this comment. I'm just starting to learn how to sing now, and one of my biggest influences is Chino's voice.
Now I see why I like riding my bike through places while listening to Deftones...
he's so soft spoken
"We are preparing ourselves for death....here" lmao am I the only one that found that funny ?
What a beautiful video
R.I.P Chi Cheng
2:01 i want to live like this so badly. i really hope i make it someday
He looks full of energy and now he's more calm. He's an intelligent guy and I wish we could listen to more of what he's got to say. I've seen so many bullshit interviews where the interviewer doesn't even know shit about them and I think that's why for a moment he didn't give a crap about interviews or at least it seemed like it. It's like he's too quite :)
"snot" rags

hes so handsome i love his voice!!
yes an angel chino!!!!
Like some other dude said on another deftones video, "Chino just has this natural coolness about him"
Chino little did you know that 20 years from now you would still be rocking out with your boys.
I love how my favourite band loves my other favourite band. Chino and Mike are gods among men
Bungle I completely agree Mr. Bungle.
Amazing natural voice, incredible
So peaceful, so 90s
Idk what is but I always find myself coming back to this video every couple months every year since I’ve known about the video and it never gets old! It’s Homey, nostalgic, chill...chino skating/scootering, mowing the lawn, Stephen on his bike riding around and the acoustic set 👌🏼 so good
20 years later, he is still in the band.

wow... thank you so much for posting this
My comfort video. I love everything about it.
deftones will always be my favorite band, till I die!!!!!!!!!!!
tears came to my eyes when he introduced Chi.
this is not like an interview, i felt like actually i was there and Chino let me enter their home and spent some cool time with the guys!!! how awesome could that be!!?
chino seems like such a great dude
Marry me, Chino.
new favourite video
24 years later and Deftones is still a band making music, what a blessing.
I love this interview and I love Chino he's my idol. I saw him twice when he played with Deftones and then recently with Crosses. I waited outside after the concert to meet him but I was too late he got in his RV really fast but I do want to meet him one day and tell him how much his music means to me and how he's helped me ever since I was a teenager going through stuff. He's the only musician that I can relate to so much and there's not one song that he's made that I don't like.
"Drum Supply stuff"
Drum accessory in subtitles.
I laughed aha
lol
They don’t make men like him anymore 😪
that studder at 2:37 was so cute hahaa
I NEED THAT HAIRCUT!!!
Damn, they all look young. This makes me feel old. Pre Frank, too. Man...
8:11 "even working at a record store" rip record stores worldwide
+Armando J. Lopez So sad that time is gone... I'm not even old enough to have been to one - but i prefer CDs alot more and i just think it's sad.
+Martin Vesturheygg you missed out man, it was a great time
I'm definitely going to buy CDs of any band that I listen to and try to even get the MOST rare songs ever heard by any band that I listen to on a disc just to prove my loyalty and that I'm trying to be the No. 1 fan at what I do!
@@idontevenknow4387 still a thing till this day! I collect 8 tracks, 45s, vinyls, cassettes, CDs etc, found each format in record shops in New Jersey, new york, California and Georgia
I think that's why they have not made a single bad album yet. Because they experience normal life as well as the life of a musician. Thats where the best inspiration comes from I think
Loving the shout out to faith no more
deftones saved my life
i love this video sm i could listen to him talk for hours
"I love music that much. It inspires me to... to live."
They basically created a hard emo metal style that no one had done before, and now everyone’s on it, they lit the fire 🔥
Emo?! smh Nothing remotely emo about Deftones
@@Robert-rl7rd White Pony had some emo metal vibes to it.
@Trinity Na White Pony was more influenced by trip hop and ambient electronic music than anything. None of the band's influences include emo. Shoegaze and new wave yes. Closest influence to emo would be Bad Brains but they ain't emo either.
@@Robert-rl7rd I’m not saying they were influenced by emo, emo was influenced by Deftones. They came up with a unique style that really wasn’t even “nu metal” to me, it was its own style that happened to inspire a lot of emo bands and emo rap artists later on.
@@trinity3422 I can agree with that
Damn I miss the 90's! If you didn't "grow up" in those times you won't understand. Great music, great friends, parties, No fkin Iphones anywhere, drinking beer and skating around town. Fuck, did they fly by or what? Best decade of my life!!
Why am I crying
i got chills when he played the guitar and was singing
@1:13 how amazing would it be to be in a band for 10 years able to pick out nearly any type of high end drum equipment gear! This documentation of events is pure gold for the diehards. It's beautiful to see a band going through its day-to-day during the time immediately after their first major peak in popularity.
I like how my home state is a kind of rest stop for a lot of bands
“This is our home when we’re not at home”
I love this video, it's so chilled and relaxed, makes me feel a part of Deftones.
This interview is brilliant.. I love bands like these.. I don't consider a lot of bands, good bands but deftones are defenetly on the list.. They are what i'm just begining to learn about music.. And in my opinion musicians shoud learn a lot from them.. They bring out their lives and soul print in the songs not only the lifestyle they live. That is what makes a band classic or just another garage band. I am very grateful to them for giving humanity their music and way of feeling and thinking.
Deftones are Incredible.... greatest fucking band. can't stress it enough.
Yup
I would have loved to know him back then. So damn delicious. Course I'd love to know him now. Intimately. 😻😽
Around the Fur has been a massive influence on me. I’m still hung up on their first 3 records, a little bit of the fourth, but eventually I’ll move on to their later stuff. Phenomenal band
Motherfuckin 90’s was such a perfect era man so many beautiful things have died down and negative things have risen
I was 1 when this came out. their music is timeless.
3:15 chino’s voice is so pretty ♥️
This clip made me realize just how much Chino looks like an Asian version of Kramer from Seinfeld. He even wore the same style shirts as he did. Why didn't Chino count Kramer as an inspiration in this video?
Red Threads agreed, except Chino is super hot!
this video makes me warm

And 20yrs later you guys are still giving us amazing music. Thanks Deftones, for everything

There just simply aren't words for how much I love this band..... Been there for my whole life, each album came along at the start of a new era of my own life. So glad they made it this far....
the nostalgia in this is so warm and wonderful it’s pretty much overwhelming
wonderful video, chino has such a beautiful voice 😭
14 years ago... deftones stays!
does anyone have that tab for the acoustic playing its absolutely the most beautiful compisition Ive ever heard please someone
Have you find one yet?
its the same as the electric version and just sort it out from there or watch youtube vids
It's their song Be Quiet and Drive, but the chords in the main riff are switched and the whole song is half a step higher (it's played in drop D instead of drop C#) - the progression is Bm7 - D or something like that.
At 4:17 I NEED TO KNOW THOSE TWO CHORDS ITS DIFF THAN THE ACOUSTIC ITS BEAUTIFUL
