Spot on. I also think they get into trucking with the wrong expectations like oh I’m going to travel the country. Yea you will see lots of cities from the highway 😂 keep on trucking by driver 😂
Unfortunately there are endless issues that can discussed. BUT, there is absolutely no reason to be forced to drive until you're out of hours and have to park on an on or offramp. Send an email to your dispatcher or HR dept. that you'll use the last hour of driving to find a safe place to park for your break. You need to preplan where you'll be taking your break.Your dispatcher doesn't sleep in the middle of no where without facilities so why should you.
7.You don't recieve a annual raise with the cost of living going up they don't even try to compete they say we'll try to give more miles. (In other words ; work twice as hard for the same pay.)
I think if i ever do stop trucking itll be because of the health reasons. Im a short guy, 5'8'' and i swear ive lost an inch or two in just the 5 years ive been trucking. Especially after running a company freightliner for so long. The constant shock to your spine and back pain is so beyond what you might think it is. Add to that, the sedimental lifestyle of constantly sitting. The weight gain. The tiredness that comes with the added weight gain and unhealthy lifestyle. And the longer you drive the bigger you get and the more tired you get. In my happy little world, the only reason ill quit is because i would have gotten into real estate. If i had made enough money to get into buy property to rent and I could start to live off the money from that. Yeah i would probably quit then. But thats just in my little dream world. lol.
70+ hrs/wk work, if u make $1250 ( usually it is below $1000), that is $17.85 per hr. But they pay you per miles, and Nthey always try to squeeze those miles away from you. No OT for drivers. Stupid rule. With all the weather and other risks, being away from family, all the physical labor in addition to the driving long hrs., it's not worth any effort. The companies are not properly regulated about the OT or bad trucks and trailers they give u. DOT will fine drivers for mechanical problems the company does not take care of.
It always sounded too good to be true. Companies making you risk your license and life for them to low ball your pay. The entry to become a driver is low so likely there is a bit of a saturated market. This makes them lower the drivers pay and regulations to come down harder on you. Its like Uber in NYC knocking people off of the app at certain times because of the saturation and congestion. However that was the TLC is inept management tho....
The stress of going to places that’s weird and hard to back up, and you tired. Tired and going to truck stops that not safe. People lose their license over an accident sometimes not even your fault. But you can literally risk going to jail for one mistake. I think it’s good for 10 to 20 years. It’s not you are not going to be rich . I rather go to school and find another trade. And some companies really just fire you because they can. So many companies…And cops harasses you you
Also they don't know the "running it up" part is not guaranteed to happen and likely won't happen until ur a few companies or years in. Your first year or first company is almost always trash and ur gonna get screwed til ur blue in the face. They don't teach u nothing in those schools. All your real learning is gonna be from fvcken up or talking to the truckers that's been out here. The "running it up" days for a company driver are over unless you're doing something specialized. Shyt trucking company owners and lease purchase drivers ain't even running it up no more😂
Why are some drivers so secretive about the company they work for? Especially if it’s a good company along with great pay. But will brag without giving too much gems.
Some of today's drivers get of trucking is because they don't speak English, and they don't want to learn. So getting out is easier than learning. Also some people just don't want to "work" for a living, and rather collect a government check.
Another couple of reasons to quit driving truck are, you can have an accident and kill somebody and go to prison. Or you have to go to places like Detroit into dangerous neighborhoods at night and be hijacked, robbed or killed. If you ever get sick on the road, or take a bad fall or break your leg, it's tough to get to a doctor or hospital. If you need help to secure a load or something, nobody will help you.
Sounds like a young person problem I been a trucker for 10 years and it's all the people that age between 21 and 27 that quits. And the next thing is you said sign of contract whit a trucking company only a fool would do that I understand some people have to do what they got to do but there are other options. I went to a technical college and got my cdl I don't owe anybody. Next is the pay you call out west coast mostly so I guess the cost of living is high over there I'm here in Georgia and I take home 1400$ a week and I'm a company driver. As far as safety goes it depends on the company at Schneider they are 100% safety if you mess up in the road they will have you come back and watch videos so you can get it right. My home time is every week I leave Sundays and usually home by Friday evening. So really it depends on how the person obtained there CDL, what region they live in and what company they work for. But this just my experience and opinions.
So u recommend I get my own cdl? By paying or going thru college right ? I think it was 5k , I should be able to afford that, btw ehich conpsny u recommend? I live in New Jersey
@@adamsi8822After I graduated for the CDL course in my city I started whit UsExpress they will keep you busy there pay if fair trucks are in good shape. And they have a lot of yard up in new Jersey and Pennsylvania as a new driver you will get some good miles. When I when to the local community college the class was 300$ out of pocket to pay for the semester and that was 8 weeks and financial aid paid for the rest and I just had to pay for my license after I pass the test with the school so that's the best way to go and you will have a lot of recruiters coming in telling you why to join there company.
well if you do have a family they're much better off with you being on the road making them money than being at home teaching your kids how to talk like you do that's so ignorant I don't even know what you said, you say something about turning it up and making that bag of course I can translate talking about going and getting high or partying and and making money well you'll make a lot more money if you speak more educated, don't teach your kid to talk like that, why would you even want to be turned up, why would you even want to go party on a weekend you have a family? seriously

Otr ain’t for the weak fr, 11-12 hour drive days across highway 80 is mentally draining
Imagine if all drivers banded together as one. Then truckers would have loud voice. Boom
This !! 💯
Need a National Truckers Union Organization 2025
In my opinion local is the way to go
OTR is tough - best to bounce if you can’t manage it
I just went local. It’s still some bull**** here and there but atleast you at the crib and go lay in your own bed at night
Just long enough to get a reset in then back at it at 2 am...

To be honest I wasn’t looking at the money part I just wanted to see what it was like and almost a year later I came off the road

Less drivers...more loads and steady work for the FEW.
