I ran into Kenny and his wife at a store on Rodeo Drive in the early 80s and watched him buy her several outfits it was heart-warming watching her model the clothes, looked like love to me. He said buying for your wife? I said no my mom he smiled and said your a good son, made my day and he signed the tag MARGIE I APPROVED OF THIS DRESS KENNY ROGERS They're both gone but i still have that tag
I was less than 10 feet away from the podium at the Golden Nugget Cabaret Lounge, in Las Vegas. (April 1978). That intimate gathering as I call it. Is branded in my mind for the rest of my life. I love them both!
@@costamolino I wept when I saw this video. They were so genuine, so natural. I Drive every time to Nashville Airport on Briley Pkwy and pass the site of the car accident. Reminds me of the incident.
I was so brokenhearted when I heard of Dottie's death, and it was even harder to believe Kenny is gone now as well. All I can say is that I hope they're still singing duets. I hope I get to listen someday. #RIPGambler.
Kenny and Dottie had a wonderful sound together which was second to none, this is what county is about, so sad for both their passing for the angels to take care of them, God bless them both.
That is Kenny Rogers playing himself, but that's not Dottie West. That is Michele Lee playing the part of Dottie in the movie about her life called, Big Dreams and Broken Hearts: The Dottie West Story.
Thank you for bringing us all to speed.I dont guess it could have been her since she was DEAD. Thank you for letting us know who played her. Those of us who would have watched this movie has probably seen KNOTS LANDING a time or two.
I absolutely hate the end of this. It takes away from the beauty of the song. We all know Dottie died and that sucks. I just want to enjoy her voice, especially when it's her and Kenny.#RIPGambler. There has to be some awesome duets in heaven now.
@@costamolino I just clicked it. Thanks for the invite. I don't remember which of his songs I first heard, but it takes me back to when I was 12 or 13. He has so much fun on stage with the ladies he sings with. He is a total gentleman but so caring. When he is singing "We've got tonight" and it gets to the point where Sheena Easton would come in, it's Dolly we hear coming to the stage. The look on his face the very moment he hears her is priceless. His smile is one of a Cheshire Cat and the mic slides down his fist. At the end when Dolly does what I call his weird vibrato, and their conversation about it is so cute.
@@costamolino I just went back to see if I had been accepted yet and I wasn't, but I should be soon. I had to answer a couple of very difficult questions! Which song is my favorite, and I inquired "only one"???? lol. My first name is actually Kathy. Thank you for that offer, I feel honored because I have loved him since he was with the First Edition. I was so happy when he went solo. He had so many great songs.
@@costamolino I had to look to find out when that LP came out. I know I have it in my vinyl collection from the late 60's until CD's made such an incredible sound to songs. So if I'm right and the album was released in '78, how old were you? I would have been 19 at the time. I love finding young people listening to "oldies". (It's hard to actually say that word because if I love the oldies, that means I'm old too. Unfortunately, my body lets me know every day that I am definitely old, lol.
Dottie was 18 years into her professional career at this point, I find it hard to believe she would be star struck by many people. Patsy Cline was one of her friends for crying out loud
I'm sorry but I'm not refusing to go to the Hospital and instead send somebody else in a serious crash like that. The car went airborne and struck the central divider near the Opryland Exit. She suffered a ruptured spleen & lacerated Liver that caused internal bleeding. If only she was taken right away they would've performed emergency surgery on Dotti which would've saved her life. The old man was fine like most tipsy or drunk drivers. Wish they weren't speeding to the Grand Opry.
I was wondering the same. Doesn't look like him at all and it's rather baffling. I don't think it's due to plastic surgery either. This film was done in '95 a few years before his eye surgery. I keep staring trying to figure out why he looks so different. I think it's the beard. It seems not as full as we're used to seeing almost like he trimmed it close. And the color looks more blond than his usual salt & pepper grey. Maybe it was to make him look younger for the time period? He also looks heavier here IF it's actually Kenny. I see here in the comments others saying it's not the real Kenny til the end, but the credits do not list another actor playing this role only KR as himself. Unlike Willie Nelson and Kris K. where an actor played their younger selves. Would love to know for sure. 😕
@@kamimargos1882 I really thought it was another actor playing his role, but the voice is clearly his and the way he sings...backs off the microphone to the side on high notes, is the same. He in the start of the movie and had been in the Gambler, so there was no need to use an "actor" to play him. Rogers is listed in the credits as playing himself as are many other stars. Just odd. You probably have the best answer.
When you hear these two sing, you know they were meant to sing together.
Always.
one of the most beautiful songs of all time and Dottie and Kenny KILL IT......
Dottie was a much better singer then I remember, beautiful too.

Sounds like Kenny but it doesn't look like him.
Michelle Lee played a great Dottie West in the made-for-tv movie, but she looks like an young Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton).
