    That was a serious war between 2 real bangers! McClellan took Jackson's best and then finally put him away.

    Man !! McClellan took shots there from Jackson that would have decked most fighters. Yet he still stayed sharp and focused and aggressive. Brilliant performance.

    I remember watching that fight. What an epic showdown. Two KO artists squaring off. Such a build up to that fight. It was like waiting on the Tyson and Spinks fight... the big battle of the undefeateds.

    Roy Jones famously said he never wanted to fight the G Man Gerald Mcclellan, he was a great fighter such a shame what happened to him but that is the risk you take in combat sports im afraid, I wish him all the best what a fighter though ohh boy...

      Am I the only guy around who reckons Mc Clellan, whilst being a very powerful puncher, was massively overrated who got hit easily by Jackson and Benn. He was so open that if Jackson's gloves were the size of a basketball, he still would have hit him with ease? I personally think his lack of experience V really good opponents all through his career, didn't help. His list of victims was terrible with hardly any top 10 160lb guys on his resume. The only decent guys he faced were Jackson 2 times and Mugabi once, who were both 32, 33 and he was 6-7 yrs their junior. At the end of the day, you cannot buy or be thought Experience, it has to be earned and earned the hard way. Straight after he won his first 160 title when he beat John Mugabi in 91 in his 24th bout, he fought Lester Yarborough, record, 12/17/1. He would go on to fight another 9 times after this V 8 different guys, including Jackson's 2 fights, over a 3 yr 2 months period fighting very very poor opposition and totalled 13 rds, 6 of these in the Jackson fights. Just 4 bouts before the Benn fight, he was allowed to fight Jay Bell, a guy who was used to fighting in School Halls in front of a few hundred people and had never fought a 12 rd contest in his life. His record was 17/1/1 V terrible opponents and his last victory came V a guy called Ismael Negron, in the 2nd rd of a 6 rd contest, yes you hear me right, 6 rd contest. Bell was dually despatched in 30 seconds and is lucky he wasn't seriously injured or even killed but m Qs are these, what lessons or Experience was to be gained by fighting such poor opposition? To be a Great or a Legend, you have to be competing with very good opponents on a regular basis and maybe having to get up off the canvas and win when faced with adversity. If Benn didn't beat him that night, he would have lost pretty soon after as he would have had to face better guys again. To try sum up what I'm saying is this, after the 1st round V Benn, he was beaten. His game was to smash poor opposition early but on this occasion, it didn't work, so what does he do? It's the first time in his life he's faced adversity, and I might sound cruel here but he would fail, but then again the poor guy knew no better, where was his Experience and general streetwise fighting ability to come from after a resume that was so poor? Food for thought lads but true.

    @MultiMcgurk Gerald had an underrated chin. He took some monster shots off Jackson here and even went 10 rounds against Benn, another big puncher, WHILE he was brain damaged. Such a waste of talent :(

  • @counterstriving

    This fight demonstrates what a good chin McClellan had.

    @TheChoice264 Not to be awkward but do you have a link to where Stewart said McClellan had the best chin he ever saw? I'd be interested to read it.

  • @MrBumboclart
    @MrBumboclart  12 лет назад +1

    @TheChoice264 Thanks! Great read! Gerald could have been champ at 160lb 168lb and even 175lb IMO, the man walked around at 180lb, fighting at 175lb he would be even stronger and less weight drained.

    @MrMashyboi Maybe on another video for it. The ones I've seen don't have it, and I'd loved to have seen G-Man interviewed after. A few of his early fights have post-fight interviews, the only decent one has terrible audio though, a real shame because he starts to rant about the beef between him and Julian at the weigh in and press conference.

    @MrBumboclart Emmanuel Stewert said that McClellen had the greatest chin he'd ever seen. That's saying something considering he'd seen Marvin Hagler and Julio Cesar Chavez. He said Hearns would hit McClellen with his hardest rights he ever threw, and it wouldnt even phase McClellen. The reason why Benn gave McClellen brain damage was from all the rabbit punches to the back of the head. A very dangerous punch which is why it's illegal.

  • @TheChoice264
    @TheChoice264 12 лет назад +1

    @MrBumboclart What he actually said was that Gerald was the "most talented" fighter he ever worked with and that he had "the ultimate chin". My bad.

    @Mowglieboy69 Unbiased. I just highlighted the biggest moments in the fight. And I'm a G-Man fan also so there is no bias at all, in fact I'll be uploading a McClellan video soon.

    @MultiMcgurk His corner was awful, he fired Emmanuel Stewart and used the trainer he had as an amateur where he could be the boss. The downside was when he was getting his ass-whipped and sitting in the corner between rounds all his cornermen sat in silence because Gerald was normally the one to tell them what to do.

    @IrishGary1 Amazing puncher. Amazing chin. His skills were far from amazing. When you're being made to miss by Julian Jackson while being tagged repeatedly and losing the first 4 rounds (despite being the bigger man), your skills leave a lot to be desired.

    @MrBumboclart yeah gerald was in a different league to benn we all knew that .did not know he was already hurt before the fight maybe he should of not had that fight and found out more about his injury first . maybe he thought he could just knock him out straight away which he nearly did and should of . i think if he thought anyone else at the time even roy jones he would of won . benn was just a brick wall that night . did he wrap his own hands too ?

  • @TheChoice264
    @TheChoice264 12 лет назад +1

    @MrBumboclart No problem. Yeah I just looked it up for you. It had been years since I had read the actual link so I didnt word it right, but got the just of what Steward said. Regardless, it's an interesting piece. Google "Emanuel Steward quotes on Gerald 'G-man' McClellan."

  • @MrBumboclart
    @MrBumboclart  12 лет назад +1

    @MultiMcgurk He already had a problem with his brain, what exactly I'm not sure, but he developed a blood clot during the fight and his chin so solid Benn still couldn't hurt him even when Gerald was brain damaged.

  • @TheChoice264
    @TheChoice264 12 лет назад +1

    @MrBumboclart I was referring to the gym wars Hearns in McClellen used to have at Kronk, in sparring by the way. I forgot to say that. McClellen was a punk and a thug and a very misguided young man who was going down the wrong path anyway, but, I still wouldn't wish what happened to him upon anybody. Maybe now he knows how those dogs he used to murder for kicks felt or that he maimed for life? I don't know. Regardless, it's sad.
