Bri nailed it, her experience at Harvard is identical to all American universities. It is even worse when examining the faculty. Americans want to give a leg up to descendants of native americans and slaves but these people see almost no benefit. Higher-ed is dominated by immigrants who were neither minority in their country of origin nor from poverty but are given extreme preferential treatment. These people become decision makers and further discriminate against Americans in favor of immigrants. The system is broken, why should hard working Americans pay for someone from another country to come in and teach their children (poorly) at such a high cost.

They don't think it means equality at all. People need to stop falling for it. What Mark said was a _re-branding_ to what the right has been saying. It doesn't mean they'll pursue equality in practice. The same is happening with race based Affirmative action. While SCOTUS has struck it down, we're still highy encouraged to talk about race and admissions officers openly admit on record that they use proxies like zip codes to practice AA.

Within 100 years of the abolition of slavery in the USA (1865 - 1965) the quality of life for descendants of slaves was comparable to anyone else of the same socioeconomic level.
That is a LIGHT YEAR of transformation that our nation 🇺🇸 achieved in 100 years - ESPECIALLY considering slavery or indentured servitude SYSTEM was the economic reality since the BEGINNING OF HUMAN HISTORY FOR ALL ETHNICITIES.
Slavery STILL EXISTS in African and Islamic countries.

What Baloney! Let you tell it this "transformation" materialized out of nothing. It wasn't the result of decades of struggle against a white American majority that fought tooth and nail to prevent it. Black Americans had to march, bleed, go to jail and die for it. And even after, you still had the "war on drugs" in the 80s that predominantly hurt Black communities, the school to prison pipeline that still predominantly harms Black and Brown Americans and a host of other disparities that result from racial discrimination. Sure we can acknowledge the improvements but that doesn't mean we should whitewash history or the realities of what happens to a people when by design they are denied equal treatment for hundreds of years.

The book covered the careers of four leftists, the last of whom was Derrick Bell, who is associated with CRT (from which Rufo argues DEI derives--essentially DEI is the creation of a bureaucracy to implement the ideas of CRT). At least in the book, he never says things like white men are not getting a fair shake. Rather he keeps his arguments fairly substantive.

I'm just glad to hear the actual debate start to be addressed. The name "DEI" itself is meant to obfuscate the term "equity" by sandwiching it between two more agreeable concepts.
This allows Marxists to dismiss critics as "anti-diversity" rather than engage honestly.
On top of that, the selection of the term "equity" also comes across as intentionally misleading, as it's phonetically similar to "equality" to make gullible people believe they are similar concepts even though they are actually mutually exclusive.

I think companies fear the ambiguous nature of discrimination lawsuits. If they fire a black employee then they would have the option to replace them with another black employee. Chinese immigrants suffered through the cultural revolution (1966-1976) where millions of people died, most by starvation, then they came to America and became one of the highest earning groups. Why are they different than other groups that faced horrible histories? The have a culture that values education above all else and are willing to work at an extreme level. Other groups that wish success should barrowing their culture of education and extreme work ethic, this would make the path to success a more likely outcome.

They just struggle with it for whatever reason. It sucks, though, because I understand that we have some physical differences with them, but we're all human in the end and our human respect should come before any of the other subcategories that society divides us into. On the one hand, this is just simply not the world we live in but, on the other hand, it seems that we should move that way but without glossing over who any human being is as an individual. Getting at the systemic root of any prejudice, but particularly prejudices against things that you really can't entirely hide about yourself like race and gender, it going to be difficult but I think that if we don't do it, we won't survive much longer as a species.

We are Not going to try and make up for whatever gaps in economic status exist because of past possible discrimination in certain parts of the country. Segregation was not nationwide by the way. and truth is there’s plenty of voluntary self segregation that occurred. regardless of that the laws have been changed and we have to just move forward and deal with the status as it is but no affirmative action based on race. Nope Briahna. Furthermore, the poor whites that were living at the same time as those Black people who were discriminated against often were in the same economic status as those blacks, and in the whole have not thrived either . As thomas Sowell often states its cultural behavior more than anything that affects general outcome regardless of the race. Yes plenty of poor white communities, they have dysfunctional, cultural behavior that hold them back as well..

When you are looking at comparing race versus social economic class you have remember LBJ's famous quote about poor whites looking down on blacks. The affect of race far surpasses social economic boundaries. Even going as to confirm the largest group that benefited the most from Affirmative action was white women. Let that sink in.
