Event: Tampa Pro Contest 2001
Location: Tampa, FL
Date: 8/5/2001
Featuring: Mark Appleyard, Eric Koston, Bob Burnquist, Arto Saari, Dan Drehobl
There was something about to real skate contests back in the day, before all big sponsors and TV time. Tampa has always been by skaters for skaters. In 2001 The Skatepark of Tampa also had a loop contest. Спорт
Early 2000s when skateboarding was at its best in my opinion
True!!!
Bad opinion
One of my first skate videos. I had it on vhs watched it religiously. God those were the days
Anyone remember the Tampa contest that Colt Cannon won. The prize was a gold painted Geo Metro that they drove over the pyramid. 1999? After party was insane!
This video itself is a classic clip of a classic clip now.
This is skateboarding right here, nobody trying to make a fuckin' fashion statement like today. Just raw skating, no politics or little shits talking crap on others style. I miss this.
haha soooo many people think that was tony.finally someone on youtube that knows their skating history!!
Love it
Sick!!
Announcer really called dyrdeks half cab a fs flip🤣
There is a longer movie of this contest
that included the street, loop and halfpipe with great music. seen it more than 10 years ago and can't find it anywhere.
can someone help at least with the soundtrack?
1:54 - 1:56
I've never seen as many VX's all in one place.

THIS IS SKATEBOARDING.
Koston is King.

Eric Koston!
Damn after last dude did the loop guy who came up to him bout kissed him 😂
thats alot of stickers
Galilea Momolu was the dopest in person, watching him skate best trick was unreal. any footage?? i still remeber nollie heel fs 5-0. so sick. thanks!
Wow.. I remember why I loved Skating then. It was about being an individual, and ripping!! now they get excited for a Fakie 360 flip at the new Tampa Contests lol..
@igosk8 I didn't film it : ( i went inside because it was pouring rain when he did it!
Do you have more Arto Saari clips?
holy stickers
The names of these skaters would be much appreciated. I recognize Matt Mumford and I think, Josh Kalis. Bob burnquist and Bucky?
@igosk8 yes I was there. The good 'ol days!
@Skateintheday Isn't this the year that it happened? Ughhh that fall still gives me chills, I've never seen someone get that wrecked.
Jake Brown X Games Mega Ramp look it up
Not one energy drink logo to be found...
@kskate91
no they change every year go there becuse it my local
@hungrykillerspoon no
remember when steve berra wasnt weird?
TOO. MANY. VX. 1000'S. CANT. DESCRIBE. EMOTIONS.
nope.
the style was nicer back then, no one repping the skin tight jeans and plimsole shoes
The last few remaining years before skateboarding fucking died a horrible disgusting death. Notocr how many people are not their and every company advertised on the ramps and walls are 100% skateboarding companies. Check out 2019s tampa and tell me what u see different
Its always a pleasant surprise to see Berra actually skating
lolol
In my opinion Skateboarding reached its peak in 2001. With everyone being real and having fun skating. After that it went slowly downhill. Skatevideos weren't the same anymore and I guess they'll never be. I keep digging old 411vms and early millenium shit to this day.
Meiereika I miss those days too. No Nike, no Adidas, no Instagram.
I agree, still in 2002 I was in a great moment.
The crowd kept dying and coming back to life...
koston killing it as he always was
Damn man this brought me back!
I like that time because people no cell phones just watched and enjoyed the skateboard
damn they listened to good music back then.
that stale to lip that drehobl did was sick!
so sick
Where was Daniel Haney´s fisher hat?
@Skateintheday the good days, indeed
Yes
nice!
Is that skatepark still the same like actually still have the same setup?
@mrjfray yes I intentionally left it out!
@kskate91 no they change it for every contest.
@jimmyTHPS or illusion flip your choice.
Drehobl!!!
back when each guy would do like 2 tricks worth filming
1:56 u sure this is called the muska flip?
who placed top 5 in this?
1.42 diego bucchieri ARGENTINA REPRESENT!
@dOuPdMe Brian Schaeffer the owner and founder of SPOT.
I think Dvs may have sponcered this?
old arto footage:)
"Well Bob pretty much ruined the loop for everyone." Still got my vhs copy
i know this is a really weird question, but can you tell me what the music is off the old VHS? i used to have the same copy but i want to know what the music is. could you look on the credits?
You can search on google =) there is a site with all 411vm songs
where can I find that video or the soundtrack it is impossible to find it online(at least for me):)
Didn't Bob do the loop switch at this contest, too?
koston back in the es days!

who doesn't admire arto'S bs lipslides?
Malcom Watson...
lol remember when mike vallely was relevant
Remember when you were?
wow. Crowds use to be so cheering and enthusiastic, now it's all about who has the best trick and arrogance all around, it's sad :/
