My professor said chart like they'll read it in court one day.
Right then Covid! Try charting in a crisis is what they should of taught us
Just listening to her feels like she really cares. She has like a caring aura. Definitely a born nurse.
Yeah, I felt the same way when I spoke with her. She was born to help others and it shows.
So many times it is like working on an assembly line and being asked to document on every piece that passes by in a shift..
Nurse for nurses! I love that❤
I agree! 💯
I used to chart to CYA, then eventually times changed and a lot of our patients need to placed in long term care, only problem is if they see our charting and how difficult these patients are, they will decline taking them. So as a result management has been strongly, and I mean strongly encouraging staff to chart as little as possible, especially if they are “difficult”. So where does that leave us, well I’ll tell you. With a big ol target on our backside. I’m currently looking for stage left.
I definitely always had my own malpractice insurance when I was doing patient care. Plus what the hospital provided.
Awe you can tell she is such a beautiful soul.
This was a really good interview. Let me go renew my malpractice insurance lol. Thanks!
You and me both, lol.
How dare nurses ask for help and teamwork during a code.
Right! Why wasn’t the central supply personnel reprimanded for not bringing a life saving piece of equipment during a code?!😵💫😵💫🤯🤯
Phenomenal interview! Thank you for asking all the important questions. She is so calm and gave great advice! 💯❤️
Thank you for the positive feedback!
This video is a must for all Nurses glad I’m off today to binge watch catch up on all your videos!!!
Aww, thank you!
This lady is awesome and she’s doing something great
This lady is a
Superwoman 👍🏾
💯
Awesome interview but it also makes you think twice about nursing profession it’s has become a profession that can strip you from everything by a simple mistake that didn’t cause death , no loss to the facility etc…. No wonder why many are leaving, it’s a very mentally anguish profession.
There a couple things that this lady said that aren't really correct. All I will say about that is that one should be aware that 'the law' is not any one thing and that much of it varies in different states. This is also true of Nurse Practice Acts. Some boards of nursing are notoriously adversarial and you don't want to appear before them on your own if they ever call you to appear to answer a complaint, no matter how good you think your case is. You need your own professional liability insurance and your own attorney.
Nursing isn't really a 'profession' anymore, but a function. I follow this channel because this dude's approach to it is realistic: it is a stable career to be in and you can earn good money from it. In nursing you learn very early to ALWAYS watch your back and always be on the lookout. So many go into nursing thinking only about the money and not about the rest of it. Yes, the money is good but as you saw in this video you always need to be aware of things that can jeopardize your license. The suits who run the corporations that own these hospitals and nursing homes are all vampires, and if you get on their bad side they will screw you. Worse than that are your fellow nurses...many of them will screw you too. As a nurse you are often put in impossible situations and then blamed when bad things happen. You will often be working short staffed, with broken equipment, and without certain resources needed to do your job. You take bullying and abuse from patients, other nurses, family members, other nurses, physicians, managers, and did I say other nurses? Yes watch out for other nurses especially. Many of them are narcissistic bullies who love to form cliques, gossip, and try to stir up things to get you in trouble if you don't fall in with them. You can be cordial with them but keep in mind that they are not your friends. Keep your relationships with them professional and don't tell them your business.
I think that if you're going to do this job you must have a little empathy and a LOT of patience, endurance, and toughness. Its hard work and much of the time very stressful. You earn every penny they pay you so don't take low-ball offers when you interview for jobs. Get the overtime when you can and make your money...lots of it. And when you make that money don't go spend it all on a big house, or a new car, or designer stuff and trips. Pay off your student loans and get out of debt. Save and invest your money, and plan to retire early. Many good nurses leave because after a while they just burn out and get over it. I would not discourage anyone from pursuing nursing as a career. You just have to go into it with both eyes wide open. Every job comes with its own set of issues. At least with nursing you can earn enough $$$ to make it worthwhile.
Patient abandonment happens when you Take report and leave without Giving report. @20:30 mark
Oh my word! Her story is so similar to mine! I did not go into law though. I need her help to renew or start my legal nurse practice going
Job abandonment is a nurse leaving PRIOR to taking report. A nurse is within the Nurse Practice Act to Leave BEFORE taking report at their discretion. A piece of paper stating your objection to an assignment will NOT hold in court... @20:30 mark
Amazing. Thank you for having this interview
No, thank you for watching!
I really enjoyed this video!
This was incredibly informative. Thank you for the video!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you found it helpful.
I really admire Ms. Brown's ambition.
Thank you for asking all our questions to her Jason! Lovely interview 😅
Of course! Thanks for giving me questions to ask. These were questions I'm sure many nurses also had in their minds.
I love this channel! Thank you Jason
Aww, thank you for the support!
Thanks for this great education 🙌🙌🙌🙌👍👍👍
You're welcome!
Excellent interview and such an important one - vital for your survival as a nurse, so thank you to both of you! Love how candid Lorie is - she's a savvy lawyer and a great mentor and advocate. She reminds me of a mom who gives excellent advice to protect you from potential future perils in work and life. Will be starting nursing school in Sep and will def come back to re-watch in the future.
Yeah, Lorie is such a wonderful human being. Thank you so much for the lovely comment and congrats on getting into nursing school!

Thank you! Maybe I will for a future video.
Thank u this is a very informative video.❤
Thank you for watching! I probably found this video just as informative as all of you. I'm glad I had Lorie on the channel.
I wish i could subscribe a million times😅...very informative. Thank you Jason
I wish you could too, lol
This is why I’m creating other streams of income. Hope for the best, but plan for the worse.
Agreed!
Just passed my license and this is scary
The vast majority of nurses never have issues brought up before the nursing board. You will be OK.
I respect her grind and hustle. I'm looking into the nursing field. Glad you put this out. Because when I join, these are aspects of this field. I need to look into
Thanks so much for the comment and best of luck to you!
I’m going into nursing also and I agree.
I really like Lorie!
Same here! Thanks for watching!
Legal nurse consulting. Amazing
She does it all.
So necessary. We need more
If you work assignments after how long can they still pull your charting and take you to court ?
I’ve always heard that if you don’t get report it’s not abandonment.
Is there a way to avoid mandatory overtime in contract?
Hi Jason, I love your videos. I need a suggestion from you and the community: I am a new grad nurse. Recently, I’ve been offered a position as a Relief Nurse with no benefits. Should I take it? Please advise.
I need more context but understanding that there are no benefits without knowing if the pay is increased and whether that is acceptable for your situation I'd say no don't do it.
Sorry for the late reply but if it were me I would not take that position. This is your first job, to take a position as a relief nurse would set you up for failure because relief nurses should already have experience and be able to identify when patients are in need of immediate life-saving interventions.
Central supply doesn’t deliver is wild asf.
Is it a abandonment if your being preceptor and the preceptor is being disrespectful?
I disagree with her on job abandonment and patient abandonment. If you walk out, it's your job! You should have a chance to explain what happened. You haven't seen a patient.
Still looking for the one millionaire OT in your vlog
She'd never come on the show. She's so paranoid that whenever someone asks her how much money she makes she gets paranoid and thinks they're after her money.
@@NursesToRiches is this OT has her own practice? In California?
Discouraging. Don’t want to be a Nurse anymore. Need a backup career.
Don't let this video discourage you. I've been a nurse for 11 years and do not personally know a nurse who has lost their license or has been criminally charged.
It really does discourage you.
The field itself can be discouraging but keep going like she did
True, but it feels like a crap shoot, I dont wanna be the first. Ive given 30 years at the bedside in med-surg because I believed thats where the most difference can be made. But it is changing, im still too young to retire, and too old to put blinders on and march on. Praying for a sugar daddy. 🤞@@NursesToRiches
Bullshit. You are always going to get fucked and just quit if you want to keep your license. Let them fire you if you want disabilabity or free insurance whatever that is.
