It is already classified as a hazard for kids under 8 to use an electronic device for more then 2 hours a day, the ipad kids will be completely mentally ruined by adolescence, it is the most vital age to maneuver your body, get an innate understanding of manipulation of items, finger finesse and your own physicality, when kids stare into screens for hours they get none of that.
Then there's the "digital autism" we are seeing with generation alpha, where they get a sort of pseudo autism from it.

Lazy parenting is a massive part of the problem. It really isn't that hard to spend time with your kids and to teach them right from wrong. Even talking with them about the negatives of social media can go a long way. What also helps is giving your kid/s a certain amount of time on screens, like an hour or two every couple of days and monitor what they watch/play. Kids should be kids. Go outside, climb trees, play in the mud, interact with other kids and basically live and experience their childhoods. That is the way it should be parents. YOU raise your kids, not social media or screens

    • @MilanoBrandwain
      @MilanoBrandwain 4 месяца назад +32

I concur with most of your points, but differ on the aspect of spending time with children. Often, parents may not have sufficient love or willingness to invest effort in their children. A significant number of adults, likely more than half excluding those in poverty, have children without fully grasping the responsibilities involved. This lack of concern is evident even among affluent parents, who, despite employing multiple nannies, frequently allow their children excessive screen time, reflecting a general indifference towards active parenting.
Side note: It is that hard, Because they didnt expect it and because both are probably working. I as a (2010) had the complete opposite mother, had as much time as she wanted with 3 nannies. Yet only put me on screens.

Yes but that's an overstatement. My children have always watched RUclips, they have never seen the Elsagate stuff partly because I always chose the videos. It was easier with my older son as he watched via pc but my younger users a tablet but he still doesn't watch stuff he shouldn't because I never just leave him. Plus he doesn't get the tablet every day. Maybe once or twice a week. Mobile game adverts are a bigger problem for me and no one is talking about it.

Watching my nephews on RUclips Kids has been eye-opening. With their mom battling a tough divorce, their dad uses iPads as a peacekeeper, avoiding real parenting. This leaves her in a dilemma: face the tantrums or let them binge-watch. I’ve seen them watch unsettling content, like Spider-Man’s repeated, gory falls from a building. Attempts to divert their attention have been a real challenge.
She’s even discussed this with a child counselor during the divorce process, revealing their dad allows 6-9 hours of screen time during visits. I feel for all of those out there who are struggling with this in any capacity. Here’s to hoping for a change before the digital habits harden.

Kids should be able to watch TV and content for kids they shouldn't be subjected to vulgar content disguised as kids' content. This actually wouldn't happen if RUclips allowed parents to control the content they're kids watched. We can do that with TV why can't we do that with RUclips? Parents should be able to trust thumbnails and channels. Yep. Still remember my in-law's insisting that RUclips kids was perfectly safe. Thankfully due to my own childhood I was a bit too paranoid and checked it myself. My poor kids were the only children we knew who never had access to technology aside from that which was directly supervised. They're young adults now and have thanked me extensively in the last few years. It is awful how devastatingly effective they are at destroying our young minds😪

@@TempoLOOKING yes, actually. I informed them back when my eldest son was around 6 or so that under no circumstances were any of the kids to left on their computer or tablet unless an adult was interacting with them. Unfortunately around 11 or so they began allowing him to play on the ipad by himself. His 4 younger brothers at the time quickly spilled those beans though🤣. I had to make it clear again that they had zero access to technology while at their home, supervised or not, or they would not be unsupervised in their home. It was a stressful process but eventually they caved. After speaking with my oldest children about this topic many times over the years I am more resolute than ever before that we made the right choice even though it did make us and our children stick out like a sore thumb 😉

I was shocked, and informed my brother ASAP, we double-checked, it was YT for kids.
And while that itself is bad, what was more disturbing is the sort of content, imagine watching 2-different videos playing together taking one half of the video each, left and right! how in the world is that even a thing??

I had my son on my lap watching a RUclips video, a review of the Last of US 2. He was quite young, like only about 6 months old. All of a sudden Ellie blew someone's head off with a shotgun and he noticeably jumped. I felt so awful and angry with myself, like I'd betrayed his innocence by not thinking ahead that he might see something like that in a violent game review and that it might startle him. I feel like our parents and society were way more careful in the 90s when I was growing up. I was watching regular TV more recently when he was 3 and a half, a JFK documentary. There was no warning at the start about age ratings or anything but halfway through they just show a picture of Kennedy on the autopsy slab with half his head hanging off the back. My son looked away quickly then turned his back to the TV to keep playing with his toys. Again, I felt so heartbroken and angry but at some point there needs to be heads ups for stuff like that. I'm otherwise so careful. Me and my gf can't even watch action movies when he's around cos he hates people fist fighting. Then for him to be so exposed to horrible shit like that makes me feel like an abject failure. There's no way in hell we'd let him use a smart phone and even when we let him watch RUclips on the TV he has to tell us what he wants to watch and we control it coz I've heard about sickos that trick kids into watching scary or violent crap.

@TheFakeyCakeMaker what are you talking about? Being a parent and being involved in the media your children "consume" and making sure they don't get unfiltered filth is lazy? Making sure there's actual substance to the videos they watch or literature they read is lazy? I don't quite understand what you're getting at here. Lazy is throwing a screen in front of them and walking away without knowing what's going on.

if you are a responsible adult, you don't give nor buy your kids a tablet nor mobile phone. you just don't do it.
it's like exposing them to crime and drugs.
an appropriate age for such devices with access to internet and social media is ~16.
not claiming this can be reasonably enforced though.

There's something that I noticed being a Brazilian living in Canada temporarily. Besides open parks for kids, nothing else is what I would call kid friendly. In Brazil, there's a large portion of restaurants that have playgrounds, so it's rare to see a lot of kids sitting down on phones. They are usually too busy running and playing. Everywhere I went during our vacation had a place where my daughter could play and enjoy herself. It makes a lot easier to keep kids off phones when you have spaces for them while adults have something to do or just want to have a meal

She’s a huge reason why I’ve banned screens until my son is two since I know my MIL will try exposing him to this type of stuff. His speech is a little hard to understand, but the things I do manage to hear are SO weird. He just asks me if I know x character and proceeds to explain who or what they are. Mentions a lot of killing and death. You can almost see the inside of their heads. These kids are different, they just need limits. Bless their little hearts.
