love the way he talks in a non fatiguing and kind of "we're friends, you know" way. Above all he so professional! love it!
My HD800S arrived today. Long story told short - they are worth the money
You are so rich to buy a headphone like this one lucky you
I hope you are going to spend a good time with it especially it is excellent for gaming
I also got the 800s. It’s amazing for gaming and movies. I pair it with a Sennheiser hdvd 800 amp/dac.
@@matrixz6
hdvd overpriced as hell!
I am getting mine next year so anticipation is fucking so much
@@Key.Fantasy i totally agree with you .
I would never spend more than 150 on a headphone for gaming but for music i would easily spend 500 for it.
Now i have 6xx and emu teak for music
M50 for gaming
And looking for either lcd2 or ananda as my end game
EXCELLENT REVIEW JOSH,...as per usual!
Raw and to the point review. Excellent!
Have both. HD800S for analytical listening (think classical, jazz) and Arya for enjoying anything under the sun (indie, pop, hiphop, reggae, gaming, metal). I use the Arya more than the HD800S. When it comes to FPS gaming though, HD800S is superior because of the imaging
In an open world game what you prefer?
With the right amp and headphone cable, the 800S isn't at all clinical, lean, or fatiguing.
@@juanignacio8476 open world games I'd prefer Aryas as IMO it's more relaxing (Witcher, Skyrim, Fallout, CP77). For FPS games I prefer HD800S - soundstage is more natural IMO compared to the Aryas that have quite a tall stage.
Would you say that the 800s is still good for a metal head? I’m into metalcore, nu metal, groove metal, prog, djent...stuff like that. I actually listen to just about every genre of music, but not sure which of these two headphones would be best for accuracy, imaging, wide soundstage, and flexibility with eq. It’s a really hard choice. The 800s seems like the better choice if clarity and details are what you’re after with that wide soundscape, but falls apart with a lot of genres. What’s worse is a lot of people seem divisive on the 800s, and you either fall in love with them or hate them. It’s 50/50. That’s a lot of money to put forth for not working for a majority of different types of music. Trying to decide between these and the Arya’s for my endgame to pair with my hd58x’s, which does my type of music perfectly anyways
@Greg Lockard it is a hard decision at this point. I believe it may be best to audition the headphones in person if you can. The HD800s may be a bit unforgiving for some genres and I'm not too familiar with those you've mentioned unfortunately. And yes the Senns may be a worthy reference headphone, but that doesn't necessarily make it a pleasurable listen for certain genres. So yeah, my advice is to audition pairs that you're interested in if you can, come back every week if you need to.
Great review as always, thanks.
Arya vs LCD-X. You hardly mention the LCD-X yet it's still in your "hall of fame" list.
Yeah i want this too
Highly interested in that comparison too ;)
me too
He did say he prefer Arya in his Arya review.
Yes pls!! Im already looking for some high end planars
THANKS for the explanation. I am the happy owner of the hd800 and love its soundstage, but now I know what it is that BIG planar can do in terms of giving instruments a size 😊
I watched this video after order 800s .And then I tried cancel order for to Arya but already shipped.
I tested it after delivered .
I decided keep 800s instead return it.
Definitely less bass than my dt1990 but This is another level for classic, jazz, etc.
Hopefully I can order Arya next purchase.
Thanks a lot Joshua.
dang havent watched you in a while...you growing :)
You're right about Sennheiser longevity. My HD600s are 20 years old. I've changed the pads, but otherwise they look and sound new.
Josh, you are the GODFATHER of describing audio stuff! Every word you say about sound characteristics is so on poing that i can literally feel and hear it by myself. Thank you so much for the content! Greetings from bavaria 🙌
Great review. I was on the fence but the Arya seems exactly what I'd want now.
Did you get it and like it ?
Thank you so much for the pad comparison for the HD 800. Did you happen to notice if it impacted the soundstage in any negative way whilst gaming?
Sometimes i wish i could try these high end headphones just for once, but unfortunately we don’t have stores for audio enthusiast to try out, any way i think mid-fi is the way to go at least for me :p and good job Joshua.
منجد محد يحس فينا💔
Excellent review! Based on this review alone I am still not able to afford either of them.
I can't wait until you try out the HeddPhone
I was waiting for this one, thanks. Now go play some Destiny!!!!
Interesting. Headphones are coming up on my to-upgrade list. Though I'm only on the THX 789 amp and Topping D70 dac, but enjoy both and they seem to pair well with my HD 700's and 6XX's. Not sure that setup would be enough to get the most out of either of these.
This is a nice comparison, but they seem a little too different from one to the other, however I am curious about the Arya versus the Focal clear, these 2 headphones I've been curious about and I wonder how Similar or different they are, they seem to be pretty close at delivering a certain type sound, in my head from the way people describe them they seem like the Arya would be better with electric sound and the Focal would be better with rock and similar types of music or am I wrong, what's your opinion on these 2? If you already have a video about this I apologize and looked through playlist I couldn't find it.
Been looking forward to this comparison! I own the Edition XX and it's great because it feels like I own the Arya's little brother.
did you tried to compare it to another headphones???
@@davidmason8212 Not directly. They're better than some oldschool headphones I used to own, but I'd like to get a DT1990 Pro someday which should be an interesting match.
@@PixelPipes i tried the dt 1990 once and i liked it but i am thinking in eather the ed xx or used lcd2f that's i asked you if you compare the ed xx
@@davidmason8212 I haven't heard the LCD2s but you honestly can't go wrong with the HEXX. They have a really balanced and engaging sound, refined and extremely versatile. They're also very non-fatiguing and you could listen for many hours. I reviewed them on Drop under 'Reputator'. Just make sure you give them a good amp (quality, not so much power), and 60-100 hours to sound their best.
@@PixelPipes i have got liquid spark amp but i think 4xx and ed xx have the same tonality that's why I am thinking about the lcd2
thanks a lot for your reviews man...so the hd800s still has wider soundstage than the arya..just curious I haven seen your akg k712 video and you have praised it for the soundstage .....is it comparable to the arya...is the akg k712 as wide as arya..
thanks a lot...Subbed
Do those pads work on the 820s? If not, do they offer pads for the 820s?
Can I ask a question. Is "size" in this description a volume thing or something different? I have heard the HD800 non s about 1000 times as I bought a used pair for my father and dream about it every night LOL. I really like metal treble clarity like ADAM JONES from Tool
Interesting comment about the amp pairing... Based on the review, which amps trumped the THX AAA 789 for you with these two headphones? :)
i totally agree with bass on Arya. Yes, i liked that bass too its just sound so big but not heavy it feels like you hear some bass smoke. Me personally it gives some special happy feel when i listeing electronic music.
Yeah their bass is soft hitting, it's not as fast and tight as even sone cheaper headphones.
FRANKII Completely agree! I think Arya does bass almost perfectly. It reminds me of a nice speakers and tastefully tuned sub.
Thank you for talking about size (of the sound). I like instruments to sound somewhat lifelike in scale. On most headphones, things sound shrunken, miniaturized. Reviewers usually never mention it. Based on that alone, I would go for the Arya over the HD800S.
With the right amp and headphone cable, the 800S doesn't shrink the size of the instruments at all.
which one is better for gaming?
why you didn't review the lcd2 fazor till now ???
For gaming you prefer the arya or the 800s?
Sound is preference and you like what you like. I like the hd800S with an harman eq or on tubes. Stock on 789 it sounds a little dry. Never heard the Arya but I want to lol.
Still playing with the 660s and the HD 400s. I have to step up my game but speakers are taking all my coins :)
Having finally tried an HD800 SDR mod (not HD800s) I have no idea what he is saying about sounds being small and coming from point sources. I sold my Arya and don't have it on hand so I may be wrong but the images I am getting on the 800 seem to be comparably huge with excellent layering and vertical height as well.
hey josh I have the dt 1990 pros and I like it very much but I been wondering about the HD 800s sound stage and how wide is how dose both headphone compare to the dt 1990 pro as far as music listening and as well as very spacious soundstage and of course wideness? I am thinking to go for the arya or the hd800s.
For gaming which one?
Wow, great comparison! Objective, transparent, and useful information!! How does Elex stack up against HD800S by the way?
Klay Moon elex for the music and HD800S and tube amp for gaming
Elex sounds amazing … until they suddenly stop working. Had two pairs die, each within a year of getting them. Fortunately Drop is good about replacing refunding.
intro music! what is it???
Josh Sir Hi Neil in the UK,I’ve recently bought what i Thought was my Grail Headphones (AudezeLCD-2C)
But what do you recommend as the Upgrade from those?
Aryas?
I have in my Collection DT1990,HD600,M1060,HD58X,HD4XX Grado Sr325is,Yet I’m always Up for another Pair.
Would the LCD-X be Next level Obvious Choice up from the LCD-2C.
Aqua Marine aquamarine Sir I cannot thank you enough for your in-depth reply and I am Humbled you took the time no matter how late it is😜
Your opinion I value and although I’m a Hifi addict collecting And restoring Speakers and amplifiers my other passion is headphones which have gave me a lot of pleasure.Ironically even though I have a Lot of Full Size headphones in my fold I have lately been adding a lot of So called Chifi IEM’s to my collection also with some surprising Results.
If Truth be known I do love my LCD-2C Classics But even those don’t compare to my trusty Sennheiser HD600 through my Dark Voice Tube amplifier with Upgraded Tubes,They Sound Unbelievable And the Audeze can’t touch them.
As for my Music Choices
I’m 56yrs old and Still into Steely Dan,James Taylor,Doobie Brothers and Old School R,N,B like George Benson,Luther Vandross.
Classical music I have not really found myself attached to although some Classical music I find hauntingly beautiful.
I have also recently found I like to listen to Hans Zimmer and his Soundtracks to Inception and Interstellar.Through Headphones Both Are Stunning Sound wise.
Your LCD-X opinion I totally appreciate and I understand your views,I have also considered the Focal Range as maybe an option for my next Purchase as well as the Sendy Aiva but the Headphone world seems to be gaining traction at a huge Pace as far as New Brands Taking on the established brands.
Thank you Sir.
Neil.👍
I love the sound signature for certain types of music of my old Beyerdynamics 250ohm DT880 pro's but HATE the build in cable. My set is now useless because the connector is shot. Any suggestions on another headphone that has as close a sound signature as possible with detachable cables? Or should i look into soldering a new connector?
Will Arya sound good straight out of chord Hugo 2
Hi Josh, when are you going to a video featring your viewers' audiophile setup? Really enjoyed seeing other's system and your take on them.
Does anyone know where to purchase the V1 arya? I do not want the stealth version since it changes everything I want.
you said the THX 789 is plenty to drive the Arya. How about the smsl sp200?
also, would the topping D50S be a good DAC with it? what DAC would you recommend?
DACs don't really matter for headphone pairing. I run the Arya with the SP200 and it works really well. I tried them with a RebelAmp too but that makes them feel a little more slugish. Not sure what you did/bought in your 11 months since you wrote that comment but you might want to get the SMSL SH-9, the Topping A50s or even the Topping A90 instead because the volume control of the SP200 sucks.
Do you EQ your Arya?
I own the Arya as well and I absolutely love it. But sometimes it's too bright for me depending on the genre. Focal Clear is my favorite so far, when paired with my Questyle CMA Twelve it's a marriage made in audio heaven. Perfect!
Johnson Adekunle which one is better please tell. I have the Arya. Im thinking to buy lcd x or clear
Can u tell how the clear sounds compared arya
The Clear is exceptional, though I don't own the Lcd X and haven't heard it. I own the Lcd 2 classic instead and it's quite good as well. The Clear pairing with the Questyle dac/amp is spectacular. It seems as if they were meant for each other. Arya is a little bit brighter than the Clear but the soundstage on that thing is immense. You can't go wrong with the Clear sir.
Thanks brother
I just bought 5 headphones within a month of becoming a headphone audiophile. HD800S’s, Game One’s, HD58X’s, SHP9600’s, and the KSC75X’s. Absolutely loving them all, I should have just gotten the Game One’s and HD650’s though.
I actually attempted to order the Arya, after receiving 3 defective pairs in a row, (faulty right driver, bent headband, faulty right driver) I went with the Hd800s. Shame because I do agree that the Arya has better sound signature (similar in sound to the Ananda, just with much more "layers" and separation).
Tube the HD800S. Arya seems dead in comparaison.
3 defective pairs ? $1600 headphone ? That shit unacceptable.
I would imagine you bought from Amazon right? They just repackage pairs that were sent back
@@bernamej Tube recommendation?
@@Koaki913 Just go with the Monolith Liquid Platinum, chose good tubes and of course, good dac. HD800S still the king.
I like these comparison reviews! Though I was a but confused. You said the Aryia had bigger scale, but then say the 800 has a wider stage. I find that confusing. Also there is a Diana vid where you say its the best. Has the Aryia been knocked from the king position?
Thanks for the great review @joshuaValour I own the HD800s and love them I have not been able to try the Aryas, I am wondering about the cup depth, I am a wrestler that has cauliflower ear so my ear is thicker than normal, usually hits 99 percent of headphones inside. The hd800, lcd-x and aeon 2 are deep enough for me. Anyone that could help with depth comparison is greatly appreciated!
Hey man, I have the Arya and the cup depth isn't good ... Your ears will definitely touch the lining on the inside ... Buuuuutttt it doesn't feel as intrusive as other headphones do. My opinion.... Completely worth it ... They are the best headphones ... Absolutely astonishing in sound
Mikyle Naidoo thanks for the reply! Yea I suspected it wasn’t very deep judging by the images. I’m in Los Angeles and haven’t found a place to demo any hifi man.
Weird that RITNG's side-by-side of 800s and Arya show that the Arya's highs are more pronounced (by a LOT!) on the frequency response graph. I wonder if it has something to do with the nonlinearity >10khz ? It's just odd to me that your listening experience and the measurements are contradictory. I'd love to find a local shop with both of these to do my own side-by-side!
I could understand everything you said, the bass of Arya is something that can be “felt” than to be “heard”, and the soundstage of the Arya has a grandness to it. It’s like a stage show. Versus a studio pop recording-like soundstage of the HD800s.
You just haven't listened to the 800S through the right amp and headphone cable if you think it sounds like "a studio pop recording-like soundstage". The problem isn't the 800S; it's your components.
LorenzoNW. Maybe, my front end DAC is Auralic Vega, and the amp being Eddie Current Balancing Act with KR Audio PX4 power tubes. I have heard the HD800 with other amps too like Woo Audio WA5, Chord Dave and Cayin HA300. Great headphone in imaging, but I still prefer the Arya overall in the presentation and tonal balance.
@@zeissiez I have the Cary 300SEI integrated amplifier with Synergistic Research Orange Fuse, Grayhill selector switch, two Bybee IQSEs, 1 Ken Rad Black Glass 6sn7 (preamp tube), 2 NOS BRIMAR Made In England 6sn7 (driver tubes), 2 Genalex Golden Lion 300B (power tubes). And I’m about to have the amp upgraded by Stuart Jones (President of Chapman Audio) with silver bypass caps and other improvement.
Headphone cable is the ToneKraft Version 2 by Audio Envy. There’s a night and day difference between the ToneKraft and stock cable - far more musically and emotionally engaging. Version 3 is coming out in a couple months and it’s expected to have an even greater “analogue sound” without a false sense of coloration. I'll be one of the first in line for it.
LorenzoNW. Wow impressive! I bet the HD800s sound otherworldly in that setup
@@zeissiez It does but it was expensive getting there and took a long time to save up for it. Good power conditioning is also critical to achieve that otherworldly sound. I have a High Fidelity Cables M-0.5, a Furutech Rhodium NCF wall outlet and cover plate, and an Audience Adept Response aR2p-T4 power conditioner. The aR2p-T4 is expensive but what it does is magic! The headphone I would love to hear someday is the Final Audio Pro D8000. But it will be a while before I can afford something that expensive.
How do the Arya’s perform for gaming? I am using SB X7 with VSS and have HD800S and I believe the amp is a bit bright and it’s fatiguing at times. I’m either going to return the HD800S and go area or order an amp that tones down the brightness.
I upgraded from the SB ZXR to a Woo Audio Wa7tp for my HD 800 and it's now much less bright and has an even more spacious soundstage now for gaming. Maybe a tube amp might fix up the harshness of your HD 800Ss too? The SB X7 is bright by nature. Josh has mentioned that the HD 800(S) has a wider soundstage than the Arya for gaming but why not own both? They'd definitely compliment each other :)
I noticed that the Arya you have, is the 1st Generation, without the outer cloth covering the speaker.
Can someone give me the link to the pads he recommended
Could you do a Audeze MX4 review?
I agree 100% about the bass on the Arya.
What an excellent comparison! You described the grandness of the Arya very well and actually helped me figure out how to interpret the sound the of the HD800S in comparison.... This is spot on with what I hear between the two. I like the HD800S for their own respective reasons, but Arya wins out easy for me too.
Israel are these both your headphones lol? Thanks for always sending in stuff for Josh to review, community appreciates it.
@@dRnRcR Thanks! Lol! Only the Arya is mine. However, the HD800S is worthy enough and will be added to my collection at some point this year.
@@IsraelCruzJr Arya is on my list. I have the older HD800 and I love them. Pushing them thru a tube amp made them insane.
@Mike O'Horny There are better ways to get your point across, you know. The HD800S is a great set of headphones, and so are other German engineered headphones like the DT1990 by Beyerdynamics. At the end of the day, everyone has their own listening preference. If you like the HD800S, that's great! Doesn't mean you should trash other people for liking something more than you. How does your attitude help the hobby? We're all in this together, chill out, enjoy the music, and respect the hobby.
@@ItsVab Thanks! "An answer, when mild, turns away rage."
Should try it through the ProCan from IDSD , can help with the lesser bass on the 800S
Here in Canada anyways I can get the Ananda for $999 while the Arya is $2199, that's a big jump... Wish I could hear them in person.
Arya is very easy to drive.
I think you can in Headphone Bar in Vancouver
I love these videos! Whats the name of the song at the beginning of the video? Thanks everyone! 🌺💐🙏
One day I aspire to have a headphone for every use case , just got my first decent headphones HD 600 and really blows me away knowing how good even cheaper audiophile headphones can be.
HD 600 is a good starting HP. Juuuust wait til you have a chance to try others, RIP wallet.
Could you do the Audeze LCD-X vs the Hifiman Arya?
everyone want that
I have the edition X. Is the arya that different to those really? Also no mention regarding gaming on either headphone. Thoughts Josh?
Gaming is amazing, feels like hacking
Have both, new stealth v3 arya. 800 S is still superior in my opinion. I’ll be putting video out soon.
Can you review the "HEDDPHONE"?
Would you be interested in reviewing the Feliks Audio Euforia? I’d be happy to cover shipping to Washington for a fair review.
You are a good man.
Yes, please! And with Empyrean!
Hello. I am very new at this so please excuse my question:
I have a Marantz SR 5013. Do I need and amp for the senheiser headphones?
Don’t laugh!
Thank you.
JCO
The Marantz SR 5013 is a nice AV receiver but a poor match for the 800S, which ideally should be paired with a good tube amp and after market cable.
What would you say is the Minimum dac/amp combo to get the full potential out of the Arya?
2 watts minimum I'd say, but as much power as you reasonably afford. Disregard the online power calculators, it's made for dynamic cans. Planars need good CURRENT vs voltage. I say this as an Arya owner. They also benefit from an amp with character...thx amps and chip amps don't do it justice, IMO.
I paired my hd800 with an akm4499 and all i can say is drool with sdr mod it gets even more fun ^^
What's a good amp to pair with the HD 800S? I'm thinking of using a SMSL SP200 since I heard its similar to the THX 789
Smsl sp200 is epic ... I paired it with my Arya ... A match made in heaven ... So much juice in it it's crazy , and very very detailed ... Insanely black background
@@mikylenaidoo1779 hah sounds good man, I figured it would be a good match up for multiple high end headphones, looking forward to getting one then!
Which one is better though? I already have the 789. I'm gonna be pissed if I could have gotten the SMSL SP 200 for $120 cheaper and its the superior amp lol
@@davidmadison6071 I ended getting the SP200 for my HD 800s. From what I understand performance wise it's about equivalent to a 789, but the SP200 does have its issues like static at higher volumes. But for my unit this only occurred at higher volumes that are unsafe to listen at anyways so doesn't matter to me. SP200 also lacks a middle gain option and low gain on it is already pretty high
Advantages of the SP200 is that it has a much much smaller footprint, saving a lot of desk space and that mattered a lot to me. Also it doesn't use a power brick, has its power supply built within, saving space cable management wise which was also appreciated
It’s very critical to match the 800S with the right components. With the right components, you get details, nuance, AND an emotionally engaging experience. With the wrong components, it can sound lifeless and clinical. I wouldn’t even think about plugging the 800S into a solid-state amp or using their stock cable.
MY SYSTEM:
Cary 300SEI integrated amplifier with Synergistic Research Orange Fuse, Grayhill selector switch, two Bybee IQSEs, 1 Ken Rad Black Glass 6sn7 (preamp tube), 2 NOS BRIMAR Made In England 6sn7 (driver tubes), 2 Genalex Golden Lion 300B (power tubes). I got the Arya and it is amazing. Totally recommend it.
what amp are you using and what kind of music do you listen to? Finding it soooo hard to make a decision and I can't try before I buy which sucks
@@jamesboxall9211 My amp is the Topping A90. It has a balanced and natural sound. In combination wit the RME ADI-2 DAC FS it is the endgame. You can also only use the RME, because of its preamp/dac solution. It has clarity, power and endless tools to drive the Arya or any other headphone. ;)
@@jamesboxall9211 I listen to Rock, Classic, Jazz, Electro, House and Hip Hop. The Arya represents all of them perfectly.
How do u like them after the honeymoon period? Is your brain adapted to them so they don’t excite as much anymore?
@@Cooliewhistles They still sound phenomenal. In addition, you need another 120 hours of break-in time, which I have not yet reached. You don't like the Arya?
Great review. I had the Arya and bought the 800S after your earlier review...used! How do you keep the 800S pads looking clean? Also, any DAC recommendations? Thanks
I think Josh has said before he doesn't really review DACs (though sometimes he mentions which one he's using for testing).
Another youtuber reviewed the Topping D90 (single AK4499) yesterday and said it's on another level compared to anything else Topping or SMSL makes. So the D90 is probably the best out of the Chinese products. I'm probably picking one up.
If you want more features and a better build/support the RME adi-2 dac is great and just got updated (now is using dual AK4493).
If you want top of the line performance money no object the Matrix Audio X-Sabre Pro.
@@snowrang3r657 I have the SMSL M500...do you think D90 is an upgrade worth selling the M500 cheap and buying the D90 by putting in $400++?
Shoaib Ahmed that’s a tough call. M500 is nothing to sneeze at. however soundnews (the RUclipsr I mentioned earlier) liked the D90 > DX7pro > SMSL M500. You should go check out the video if you haven’t.
Yes his opinions are subjective but I think that has a role to play as well not just measurements of test tones.
For me since I don’t have anything crazy it’s easier to say I’ll just save up a bit longer and get the D90.
I love my 800S. With the right amp and headphone cable, it can sound very musically and emotionally engaging. If your still using the stock cable, order the ToneKraft version 3 by Audio Envy when it becomes available in a couple months. It will take your 800S to a whole new level!
@@LorenzoNW Great! What amp would you recommend then? I am using the THX 789 and using the stock cable balanced. Do cables make that much of a difference I wonder...how much $$$ for the cable you recommended? Thanks
What amps would you recommend? I’ve heard some say tubes on the Arya are the way to go
T A Just my 2 cents... I have Arya with THX 789 and a Bottlehead SEX tube amp. I prefer 789 when I want absolute accuracy and detail, but the SEX is ever so slightly “warmer” which is a more enjoyable combo 90% of the time.
italiansurprise I appreciate it, I was thinking about a tube amp myself because it’s supposedly to widen the soundstage some. I don’t know a lot about tube amps tho so I’ll probably go with the 789
What would be a good upgrade from hd58x? like $500 range and will i even hear the difference with fiio e10k?
Try dt1990
Maybe the HD700
Late comment but I just want to point out that I've completely disassembled my Arya V2 and it's not a 'primarily plastic build'; the headband, yokes, grills are all metal. The only plastic you touch are the outside rings of the cups.
Is SMSL SP200 a good amp for HD800S also for DAC Hugo 2 an option or alone Hugo 2 is good enough. Thanks
no, but it is still good. SMSL SP200, thx789 those kind of amps can get HD800s detailed enough , but also make hd800s dry. HD800s is much easier to drive than the hd800. but you still want a more full sounding amp than the sp200. Hugo 2 with hd660s is a good match. even 650 or 6xx will get benefit from a desktop amp like the THX789.
I'm not familiar with the SMSL SP200 but I own the 800S and I can't imagine listening to in on a SS amp or with the stock cable.
Just auditioned the HD800s and Arya today with the M15, struggle was real HAHAHA
What did you choose?
Anymore thoughts on the dekoni pads for the hd800s? Some people think they ruin the hd800s sound sig
he talked about it in the original review for the HD800s : ruclips.net/video/QOdN2vTKD7A/видео.html
around the 6:14 mark if you're on mobile.
Gonna look for the Aryas as my future upgrade from my LCD-2C. They seem interesting..
why not the lcdx ?
@@davidmason8212/videos Just want to try a new brand, never tried the Hifimans. But yes, LCD-X is the other option to go to. Looking for used anyway, so whichever I can find, really.
@@davidmason8212 the X is as detailed as the Arya, but the X doesn’t have any of the soundstage and scale of the Arya

And it weights 785 gram
This weight is extremely bad for the neck
I now have both of these in my possession, and I agree with everything here. The HD800S is very interesting, but they murder my ears, even after some EQ. The Arya is much sweeter and has smoother bass. I think planars are for me.
If you find the 800S to be murder on your ears, it's because you don't have the right amp and headphone cable. With the right ones, the 800S is emotionally and musically engaging - pure magic! With the wrong amp and headphone cable, it can sound clinical, lifeless, and fatiguing. No EQ needed.
@@LorenzoNW what amp do you drive yours with?
@@ilokiwi Cary 300SEI integrated amplifier with Synergistic Research Orange Fuse, Grayhill selector switch, one Bybee IQSE, 1 NOS HYTRON Made in USA 6sn7 with Mapleshade Halo (preamp tube), 2 NOS Sylvania Bad Boy (driver tubes), 2 Genalex Golden Lion 300B (power tubes). All contacts cleaned with 99% isopropyl alcohol and treated with Mad Scientist Audio's Graphene Contact Enhancer. Upgrades by Stuart Jones (President of Chapman Audio Systems) include DH Labs RCA sockets, Cardas binding posts, Furutech IEC Inlet, Clarity capacitors, Duelund Silver Bypass capacitors. The amp sits on a Star Sound Technologies Sistrum Platform coupled to APCD-5 coupling discs.
The amp actually exceeds the capabilities of the the 800S but it still sounds absolutely gorgeous. The ToneKraft headphone cable by Audio Envy helps too. And to get great sound, power conditioning is essential. I have an Audience Adept Response aR2p-T4 plugged into a Furutech NCF duplex wall outlet with carbon fiber frame. Eventually, I'd like to buy the ZMF Vérité open back but I have other priorities at the moment.
@@LorenzoNW Cables don't affect sound quality, bozo.
@@jayninja2747 I have the stock cable and a ToneKraft cable by Audio Envy. Sounds like two completely different headphones. With the stock cable, my 800S is unlistenable after hearing how good it can sound with the ToneKraft. No doubt it's just snake oil and the placebo effect. But I'm one happy bozo.
why I trust Joshua's opinion? because I have Sundara and the things he says about Sundara are 100% match what I hear and think about them. So we both look in the same direction but Joshua obviously has heard way more options out there. So I think I'll go with Arya in the future, been thinking them over for some time now
i have a violectric hpa v281fe with my arya and it sound incredible. my dac is audio gd r7.
Got both, Arya is overall better, tuning and presentation is so grand yet balanced. However HD800 has more resolution, you will notice this specially in singer voices, they have more nuaces and depth.
is the arya still functioning?
No idea, sold both, too bright.
have you found a better headphone in this pricerange?
Which one should I get for competetive gaming?
HD800s, the imaging/Soundstage is insane for FPS.
Jotunheim balanced out good enough quality for Arya?
most likely
Hi just subscribed. I have a pair of Sennheiser hd820 headphones.
And was considering buying fiio m11pro player, as I want something portable to play on my commute to work.
Will m11pro be able to power my headphones.
The M11 Pro is definitely not enough, not even with the balanced output.
Have you checked out the Woo Audio WA8 Eclipse Headphone Amplifier / DAC? Also, order the ToneKraft headphone cable Version 3 by Audio Envy when it comes out in a couple months.
When Joshua says "Fucking Huge" in those words... it must be true :D
At 1600 it's SQ must be pretty impressive given it's bleh build. At that much it's too much for me to invest in plastic with no replaceable parts or decent warranty.
I know this video is 2 years old but you are the link between me actually getting the HD800s. i have been trying to save up for 800s's but man i cant get ahead sometimes. When i actually can Offord the headphones the 800s's wont be relevant anymore hahahaha. Some day they will be mine.
What if money wasn't an issue and you were given the option to pick Arya or Empyrean as a gift?
Throw in the lcd X and you have the most interesting combination of all the Headphones im interested in.
I'd pick the empyrean because it looks nicer
Had 800s for about half a year now, today got Arya, not very impressed, vocals on HD 800s seems more close to you with much wider stage for instruments and scaling well with volume of instruments and on Arya vocals do sound more full, but quieter for some reason than instruments around it... Don't get it why, maybe because its new and not burned in? Using Monoprice Monolith DAC AMP and chord mojo to THX 789 both not balanced.
Minimum of 150hrs burn in for arya, i dont believe in burn in until i got this. Theres difference in sound after burn in, and i dont know why
@@ViaRosalesVlogs Thnx a lot! I don't believe in burn in either but will give it a try! =)
@@andrewlymar796 Most of my components have taken 200 - 500 hours to burn in. It doesn't matter whether you believe it or not. I recommend getting an IsoTek Full System Enhancer CD to speed up burn-in and for weekly maintenance to remove static from your system. And if you have a stock cable on your 800S, buy the ToneKraft version 3 by Audio Envy when it becomes available in a couple months. It will take the 800S to a whole new level! The ToneKraft takes around 200 hours to break in.
Update? Still have both cans/favour the HD800S? Trying to decide between the two myself.
Please do the Tin HiFi comparision
My Tin P1 was the my greatest waste of money as now in my daily audio gear. I bought it as an early bird for on the road, but found out it couldn't be driven by my LG Quad-DAC. Last it's so uncomfortable that I just don't want to use it. Even @ home or hotel.
Congratulations! Very nice review!!! LIKE 1533
Love your comaparisons for sure but somehow I was expecting the ultimate shoot-out including Focal Clear too....I bit disappoited. Still a nice upload for sure.
Be aware of the vertical height guys 🤦♂️
Which is best for gaming?
800S
Can anyone tell me which brainwavz earpads should i get for the Phillips shp9500?
Joshua's SHP9500 replacement earpads video has you covered, note that some brainwaz earpads may change the sound signature and well as comfort. 👍
@@ecstasy5317 Thnx, i might consider a velour pad from Shure or the pleather one from brainwavz.
you can escape it ! with eq :D
I'm not sure if you've already talked about it, but what about the Empyreans? Do you like the Arya's more than them too?
Yes, Josh reviewed the Empyrean already, since he hadn't mentioned it even once, in both video's. You got his answer already. The question left is how does it compare between headphones? Is it worth to add an Arya, if you already have several high tier headphones in your collection.
i just want to hear that crazy 800 soundstage i always hear about. i have the aeolus, 650, 599 and elex; all of which arent known for their soundstage... i want to hear how the 800 lays out the stage because everyone talks about how awesome it is at that.
It's awesome...
HD800/S soundstage can fool your brain thinking the singer and band is in front of you...
For videogame and movie OST it's spectacular...
Just ensure to use powerful amp...
