Dusty is still afraid of heights

  • Just when I thought I fixed all possible issues, Dusty the Flite Test Duster still has an attitude and gives me squirrelly flights.
    I do have to say, it's one tough plane, it's been through several crashes and it's still in one piece.
    Any suggestions in what to change and improve, let me know, I really want to fly this with my son.

    Fun plane mate 😂 looks like this one has been a bit of high maintenance. Hey you’re getting fun out of it so it will probably be one of your favorites. my favorites are the ones I’ve had to work on the most 🙏🏽😎☮️✝️

    Yes Alex about 5 Years ago I had a Spectrum AR636a Receiver only AS3X available which came from a Previous BNF Parkzone Sport Cub I had owned and I had this aforementioned Receiver installed in a Parkzone Sport Cub I had set up from a new bare fuselage and I velcroed the Receiver in the Fuselage and it took me a few flights to figure out why I was getting a bit of a wobbly flight with this Parkzone Sport Cub and after a little glue to secure the Receiver that eliminated the wobbly flight of this Cub. Sorry for your unsuccessful flight attempts with your Flitetest "Dusty" and hopefully you can remedy the problem you are having with that nice looking little Scratchbuilt RC Cropduster Airplane and have a successful flight with it soon😊💯🛩👍

      @A.M.-RC  4 месяца назад

      Thank you! There are several things I will look into, maybe more power, maybe shifting CG around. It's a speed build kit so I basically just glued pre cut parts toghether, apart from the squareish leading edge it's pretty much as it was designed.
      It flies with a bit of struggle, but I won't give up on it yet.

    The old Dusty. I would ‘buddy box’ an easier aircraft with your son Alex. Get an AeroScout. Perfect trainer.

    • @A.M.-RC
      @A.M.-RC  4 месяца назад +1

      Yes, we put a lot of time into it but it's harder to get flying than I thought. We do have a couple trainers we buddy boxed successfully (with him only controlling the right stick so far), the latest being the T-28.
      Maybe I'll try my luck with scratch building a more forgiving one, we can always give it a Dusty Crophopper look 😄 And the Aeroscout is a great suggestion, I actually want one for myself. If he shows interest I will probably get him one, he is still a bit young and easily distracted by new things.

      I set it up as I usually do twitchy planes, hi mid and low rates but that's a good suggestion. It might also be a tad heavy for its size, I might need to give it more power.

      Thanks! You just reminded me that indeed there is a 3d printable version, saw it a while ago, I might need to try it. But it will be a while. I have 4 planes printed waiting for assembly for ages and a couple more planned. So many things to do and so little time 😄

      @@A.M.-RC 🤣🤣🤣I had a spitfire 3d printed given to me and it looked amazing but again it was so heavy and one crash and it will be a mess. The good thing is if you have the printer you just make another wing or nose etc things have come a long way since mine were done and it probably a lot better now. Looking forward to seeing yours 👍🏼

    I love the look dusty gives you, way cool cartoon airplane's are my favorite. I wished my first airplane was a E-flite Night Vapor once you fly one you could see how easy it is when the airplane does most of the work I recommend a Vapor to my neighbor who is older than me and I am 60 and just learned to fly 2 years ago my neighbor has picked it up fast and he really enjoys the Vapor everyone who ask me what's a great beginner airplane only one comes to mind the Vapor because of its super slow speed it gives you time to think about what you are doing while learning like I said I wished I would have started with the Vapor could have saved hundreds hahaha. As far as dusty goes I think it needs a receiver with a gyro and stability-Pilot and co Pilot. Have a wonderful weekend Alex. PEACE ✌️ ☮️

    • @A.M.-RC
      @A.M.-RC  4 месяца назад +1

      The Night Vapor is definitely on my list, it's the only UMX that's also a night plane, so kind of right up my alley 😅
      I never thought of it as a trainer, it looks fragile, but I've never seen one in person. Now that you mentioned it, it kinda makes sense, my first flights were me panicking trying to turn the plane around before I lost sight of it. A slow 3 channel plane would be great to learn. And I actually want to try flying it and walking behind it, kind of like a trail truck 😂
      Thanks for the advice and I hope you have a great weekend as well!

    • @smclain64sm
      @smclain64sm 4 месяца назад

      @A.M.-RC Alex I am going on my 2nd Night Vapor and still love flying it. It is like a kite material and is fragile but if you fly it over some nice grass away from trees I truly believe anyone can fly the Vapor it is the first airplane I learned to take off and land successfully and the first airplane I did a loop with I will never get tired of flying the Vapor especially at night the darker the better it has a comfort level for night flying for sure. The Vapor is very tough if you stay away from trees and fly it over grass the fun meter is off the charts. PEACE ✌️ ☮️

    Such a cutie. Looks like the motor is pointed down a little? Maybe the wing incidence is off a tad? My UMX Timber X flew like junk out of the box and is now one of my favorites. I'd say buddy box your UMX Air Tractor with your son.

    • @A.M.-RC
      @A.M.-RC  4 месяца назад +1

      Could be, added some washers to get a thrust angle, maybe I should remove them. I think it might be too heavy. But I did think of painting the Air Tractor like this. I'll wait until I crash it, or maybe buy another if they go in sale. 😄

      Yeah, the surfaces are quite big. And it is surprisingly tough for being just foamboard and hot glue 🙃 I'll have to figure it out somehow, maybe some more power, that never hurts. Famous last words 😆

      Could be, also the pushrods feel a bit bendy or maybe the elevator is too stiff, might need to cut it off and add some hinges.
