"The gunman walks into Robb Elementary School unimpeded, moments after spraying bullets from his semi-automatic rifle outside the building and after desperate calls to 911 from inside and outside the Uvalde school.
He slows down to peek around a corner in the hallway and flips back his hair before proceeding toward classrooms 111 and 112.
Seconds later, a boy with neatly combed hair and glasses exits the bathroom to head back to his class. As he begins to turn the corner, he notices the gunman standing by the classroom door and then firing his first barrage.
The boy turns and runs back into the bathroom.
The gunman enters one of the classrooms. Children scream. The gunfire continues, stops, then starts again. Stops, then starts again. And again. And again."

in my opinion the uvalde police should all be put on trial for aiding and abetting the shooter because they basically cordoned off the school and kept the shooter safe while he murdered the children for over an hour. to make matters worse the police even kept the parents out and threatened them with jail time for nothing other than trying to save their children from the gunmen that the armed police officers were protecting.

In Uvalde's case, it compels even more towards "disband the police." You can even use one of the right-wing's favorite talking points:

While those cops are standing around, listening to him shooting those children and then standing around for another hour, letting any still alive bleed out, is the most shocking thing I have seen in a long time. I went through entire system of education in my country. Through kindergarten to university. Not even once did I have to worry about something like this happening while I was at school. I grew up free from fear of shit like this. What are you doing to your children?! You're a sick country.

My childhood friend was one of the thirteen killed in the 2009 shooting at Fort Hood. I remember the brave petite female officer who ran in without hesitation and she took down the gunman while she herself sustained injury from the gunman shooting at her. She makes these Uvalde cops look like giant cowards.
I was just thinking that if those were women on that line they would've gone in. You see the civilian lady that tried to go in but got cuffed and stuffed.
Maybe put in a women as Chief of Police, they would understand. Those ‘brave’ men are beyond contemptuous.

If the cops are more worried about their own lives than the public that they've sworn to protect and serve, then they're in the wrong job.
There were parents willing to risk their lives to save these children but they were prevented from doing so. These parents must now live with that as well.

Considerations aren't something criminals consider is the problem. Rarely, a law abiding gun owner pulls a gun and faceblasts a cop during a routine traffic stop. Typically its Gang Bangers and other criminals such as cartel members who pull out an illegal firearm and shoot someone.

It's important to note, while the cowardly Texas cops waited 77 minutes during this episode, 911 received multiple pleas from children in the classrooms begging to be saved. Cops ignored calls from kids for help.

The cops had bullet proof vests, bullet proof shields, military helmets, Smith & Wesson range glasses, and assault rifles that I bet are full auto. You know damn well these cops have extensive training and practice with these guns. The shooter was probably shooting his gun for the first time. The level of cowardice it takes to stand in that hallway listening to children be shot one after another while wearing full tactical/military gear is at a level never seen before in the US. I wasn't for defunding the police before because I was for reforming the police but now it is time to at least cancel the funding for the military/tactical gear and expensive assault rifles. Based on the full bodycam footage, one cop eventually says aloud, "I don't think there's anybody in there, I don't hear screaming" (announcing to the entire world that he had zero clue of how school lockdowns or lockdown drills work -- the kids are instructed to hide and remain 100% silent)
The "only a good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy with a gun" argument is clearly out of the window.

Been in the Army, and at 22 years old, I was willing to stop my convoy in Iraq when I saw a roadside bomb strapped to a light pole, stand right beside the bomb while using hand signals to back up all 17 vehicles (hummvees, big military trucks, and 18-wheeler contractor trailer trucks) to a safe location 300 meters away. Yet, these police officers can't make a moral choice and go in to protect these unarmed children. There's a saying that heroes don't wear capes, and I have another one: sometimes those wearing heroic uniforms aren't heroes. I hope these police officers are decommissioned and replaced by out of precinct officers who actually care about doing their job.

Teachers, Firefighters, and Police officers (ones that do their job to protect and serve) should get more thanks than me. Was quite a ride though going to Germany, to Kosovo, to Iraq.
