In 1979 at age 15. My first car was a 1974 Dodge Charger SE, 318ci. engine with a 3 speed auto column shifter. It was black exterior, black vinyl top and all black vinyl interior. My father bought it new in 1974 from my grandfather who was GM of the local Dodge, C, P dealership. I think it cost about $3200 brand new, with grandpa's discount.
This Charger for me has the best exhaust sound on RUclips.. wear some quality headphones and turn it up, proper beastly and nasty.Who knows what the engine/exhaust set up is but its awesome.
Cool! Everyone wants the 426 Hemi but I really like the 383 and 440 engines more. They're more streetable and have decent power without the crazy price tag and are more reliable.
@@garrisonnichols7372 They require less maintenance for sure and are a better choice for most people, but I'll take a 426 Hemi over the 361 thru 440 b/rb's any day. You could grenade a perfectly good hemi if you didn't know how to operate it, oil changes every 1500 miles, lifer adjustment every 3000 miles, recommended new rod and main bears every 10,000 mile, more frequently if race at the drag strip and no like most engines the carbs were not a problem the people who had no idea what they were doing screwing with them were and still are the problem.
Nice sounding small block, I had a 74 Charger big block, but from the day I bought it home my daughter told me it was her car, so I finally gave it to her, but that alright because I have a 66 Satellite which I prefer anyway.
I have a Charger just like this one. I have 15" rally wheels on it. Mine has a stock 360 with bucket seats and center console. I had one just like it way back in 1977 and was lucky to find this one four years ago. It"s a very nice car and I drive it every day. Car gets lots of attention and looks awesome going down the road. I stole it for $4000. The guy needed money for back child support or he was headed back to jail. My advice...don't get married and have kids, buy yourself a damn cool car instead!!!.
These classic muscle cars always look good in black. It gives them a sinister evil look which I kinda like. 1974 was probably the last real year for American performance. After 74 it was all downhill with catalytic converters and lower compression ratios to run off unleaded gasoline. 😥
@@everestsdriveway366 Wade, Just so you know... The 74 CHARGER had a slant 6 and a 318. I believe you could option them out with 340, 360, 400 2 bbl, 400 4bbl and a 440. By 74 the horsepower was down from a high ( 4406 bbl) of 390 HP ALL THE WAY TO 275 HP. It was fast for its time and there were many 440s around from earlier years that you could slip in there. The 340 ( earlier one's) were nice in them as was the underrated 400 4bbl. That was a fun engine. Not FAST BUT FUN. I HAD A 73 400 WITH A TORQUFLITE THAT WAS MILDY BUILT , CAM, CARB, 391 GEAR AND THEY WEIGHED LESS THEN TODAYS BY ABOUT 800 LBS. SO IT WOULD RUN 14.4 EVEN THEN WHEN THEY WERE NO LONGER, AT THAT TIME CONSIDERED MUSCLE CARS. TODAY.... IT DEPENDS WHO YOU TALK TO.

What a lucky guy
Funny my first car was a 74 se 318 with 3 speed automatic. And I was 14 when I got it.
But that was in 2004 and I still have it. Was $600 😂
Now that is a damn nice sound.
I was never a big fan of the mid 70’s chargers but this one is nice as hell!
Mid? Try early 70's

Visioracer sent me..... love that car I'm hoping to build a 73 or 74 someday. Prefer the quarter window on them over the 71-2.

What mufflers do you have for that sound? How big is the engine? Looks amazing!

What size are those wheels and tires? They are perfect!

Some reason the 1972 to 1974 dodge chargers were never a big hit until a few years ago when anything classic turned into a hit !

Bryan Perez probably a 351 to a 440 big block. With some after market exhaust.
