This almost makes me sad because you don't hear country music like this anymore. Happy birthday, Buck. You woulda been 87 today. I miss your sound, and really miss Don Rich's twangy Telecaster.
    You'll live forever!!!

this song was #1 in 1958, I was 13, they blew the radio up with this, year of the dual headlights, and tail fins. Buck introduced electrics for the first time in country! country music's finest.

It must have been great to be around people like Buck and Don. Im from UK and we knew about all the great TV shows you had over in the states, but we never got to see them. It is only since RUclips that we have seen all this great country music. It makes me even more envious of what you had all over your TV network in that era of proper country music.
Marty Stewart came to UK two years ago and he had a guy in the band that reminded me a lot of Don Rich, he was always smiling, I forget his name.

God, I would've killed to see him live before he died. Back in the day would have been even better. We'll never have another Buck, just like we'll never have another Waylon, or Hank or another Merle or Willie when their gone. I'm really truly envious of the people that got to be around when this was still considered music

pretty good for a first hit - one country singer/songwriter; cool clear voice with cool outfit during this performance. steel guitar player sounds great in both the electric guitar; unique with sitting in 3 chairs. kept playing the song over & over.

Never knew how great he was until recently. I watched Hee Haw as a kid. It was a fun show but I just didn't take Buck and Roy seriously as musicians. I was a kid, what did I know? Now in my lat 50s I've become a country fanatic, and Buck is the best. Love that Bakersfield sound. I like Dwight Yoakam a lot too. He has paid homage to Buck his whole career. Buck 'em ya'll. Just Buck 'em all.

@hotrod02100 When Don Rich died, it was like loosing a brother to Buck. I saw them interview Buck back in the 1990's and the subject of Don's death came up. After all those years, you could tell that it was almost like it had happened just yesterday to him, and his music was never the same after that fact. It was almost like the fun was gone and after 1974, Buck and the Buckaroos really didn't do much after that. Really sad.

  • @renger29
    @renger29 7 лет назад

This was recorded way after 1988, the year he restarted his carrier and may be also after his oral cancer periode (1990).
SO PITY. His typical uptempo "locomotion rhythm" was already dramatically slowing down. But Still: BUCK was THE BEST.

  • @pedalman

Buck is real country, Legendary but yes Don Rich was a massive part of the original sound.
Its good though that Terry Christopherson is not trying to copy Don .
Hey I need to say this Don Rich was and had to be the best harmony vocal, lead guitarist , fiddle player any one could have wanted I know Im not alone saying this either.

The reason country music is no good today is because it is designed for 16 year olds. The good stuff was written and sung for adults.

  • @angusmacleod3694

He was much better in his earlier years, and he much less flirted with that horrible kitsch, but nevertheless he was a great performer and I love him. But this performance is OK and I don't mind the tempo is somehow slower than it usually is. Such changes are a good thing.

Wonder who's that one asshole and what was he/she doing here in the first place ?
I had a co-worker a couple of years back who said he loved country music. So I lent him a mix cd of some old school stuff like this and he said he hated it. Turned out he likes that stuff they play on the radio that they call country music . But , when he was exposed to the real deal , it wasn't to his liking. Go figure.
