- If it runs like it looks, this is gonna be one bad azz engine. It's amazing how awesome this thing is looking. Lets keep it going and see if we can get the engine one step closer to having fire in the hole.
This thing really is a budget build though, almost everything is used! It truly is a ebay rocket!

Tom Nelson has a glue for copper gaskets. He calls it helicopter glue. You want to use that instead of silicone.
Thanks for update John keep plugging away
That Brodix block looks pretty JT!
Looks even prettier with matching heads on it! Good luck on getting the missing pcs in fast and getting it back in timely.
Want to see you there racing with great friends the SRC Hoskinson family gang again this weekend.
And just as I stated earlier on Bill's vid about maybe Billy needs a bolted converter with a stator collection, you hold 1 up tonight, I forgot yours already bolts together and you already have tunable converter choices.
John you don't mess around. You build your stuff super fast and on a everyday guy budget. You know your stuff and it's cool to have someone to look up to, that do things just like us.
Yes sir! Thanks
Really need to change that piston it will make a difference in comp
Come on John dont rush it!!! Can always race another day!!!
Agree!
@@bigboreracing356 - Are you really comparing a mega bucks TF crew to a one man racer on a tight budget? Wow.
@@bigboreracing356 thats just for one run and a million dollar budget!!!! Did you hit your head before???
Doesn’t he have sponsors tho? I know certain sponsors require you race a certain amount of events.
Man that block is high dollar dang!! I found one on ebay for 9k shhhhooo. But lucky you brother.
Can't wait to hear that monster
I had no idea of Clark Copper Gaskets, this is a life saver, thank you!!!
They are awesome!!!!
You got it man
Gonna be awesome
Never seen anyone run 40 psi boost on a true almost 106 LSA with success, so this will be very interesting.
And a 400 is still going to make more power than the destroked version 🤯
Looking great 👍thanks for update and God bless all
Just means you might need more turbo
I hope you can get this back together for the weekend and be able to run at the beach. Good luck.
It is what it is😎
Can’t wait to see how it runs!
Removing good amount weight off front really helps weight transfer 💪🏁
Do what you do John.
You never fail to impress me on how fast you go on a budget.
Thanks
John you should definitely check your hot side for cracks to make sure that's not part of your spool up issue.
Always eager To see turbo John videos
I love how you just do it that's I was raised just get it done great video brother
Thanks
In other words picking the prize winner
Hey man, your videos are very informative and you have a fantastic build going.
Don't be cheep john bild it and they will come
Are you giving any think away
108 degrees is definitely tight by my old school theory of 114 degrees for a turbo, even out to 116 in some cases to build pressure. The proof will be in the pudding, go get em this weekend
I like the cam you have plenty of of overlap and some good flowing heads . Would make more power and torque. With over 40 lbs. You'll be doing great. Next time round off all the sharp edges on the piston tops
Awesome congratulations
Lookin real good. Im excited for you i really hope it is more powerful way lighter and makes the new car work better
Right on man , good info ! Hope you get to race !
Looking good ! Can't wait to see it running!
It'll be snappy. Might be hard to control. Gonna be a learning curve.
New motor looks awesome
7.400 LS pushrods tick should have them in stock
If you could order any Chevy Small Block, unlimited budget what would you order? What size mains, cam tunnel size, and any other special/trick modifications, Aluminum or steel? Basically the PERFECT BARE BLOCK for drag racing/ and some street strip use.
Take care, be safe, and have fun regardless.
dont forget valve lash needs to be done hot since you nromally do it cold as that block will grow more when hot.
Yes, I set it at .010 cold. Should grow to .020-.024
Can’t wait to see how it proforms on the track once your done
Man those head stud/ bolt holes are very close to the cylinder sleeves
Why would you not install new pistons while you have it apart. The ones you have don’t look to good. I think your asking for problems reusing them.
Man she looks good, I love the look of a built all aluminum sbc. If I had a blow up of that I'd hang it on my wall.
I have one that's I've had together for many many moons not a lot of runs on it but thought of you when I seen you blue yours up. If you're ever close to Iowa come get it
Thanks man. Could work in the old car.
Going to change the whole game for you guys and I couldn't be anymore happier for you and your wife!!! You will be in that winners circle before you know it
Getting excited now ! Hell yeah 💪
Its going to be tight i reckon will you have any time to test even. Thats how we do !!
No testing, we will be going off the trailer. 😂
👍
Moroso has Brodix block oil restrictors in stock, for sbc and bbc...
I have a feeling your right on that thread. Looks like a 3/8 NPS. How much longer do you think those rods will last. Do u have a point u plan to swap them. That cam should sound nasty. I'm for sure interested to see if it makes a difference.
Yes, gonna order rods in December, that will be 2 seasons around 300 passes.
While you were waiting on the Block and everything I hope you already cut that firewall out
We did not. I didn’t have time to do it unfortunately
Budget build? Lol. Everything is relative I guess. Rock on Turbo John.
It really is, crank was 600 bucks used, go bullet pistons, 200 buck used cam, 200 buck used lifters, 1200 buck used block that had to have sleeves.
Motor looks awesome with the aluminum block! Been thinking about quench on my engine and thinking about a .050 gasket would do it for nitrous or boost. Pistons are around .020 to .025 in the hole.... one question though do you have to have the o-rings in the block for the copper gaskets?
Yes, need the oring in the block or head to hold the gasket. There are some company’s making separate fire rings that bite into the head and block, but I have never used them
@@TurboJohnRacing thanks John! I thought they were required. I'll have to look into the separate fire rings deal. I haven't seen them before.
Budget build ? With a aluminum block 👌🏼
Mostly all used parts including the Block.
I payed 1200 bucks for it, needed 3 sleeves.
Doing great don’t get in a hurry that’s when we make mistakes !
What cam Journal size are you running?
Double triple check all bolts on the car. Be safe
With short stroke and high thrust you have to make sure the rod doesn't pop out and swap holes.
Sometimes the stroke just picks up , amazingly.
Why go through all that and use an Ebay cam? Just curious.
💰
is that small radiator system still on the car?
Yes
Why would you destroke a 400 .. wouldn't you make more power with the 400 asking because I don't know
Better rod angle, higher revving with minimal issues.
That's exactly right, we destroke the 6.0 vortec/ls based motors for turbos and people just are dumbfounded that the replacement for displacement is boost and then rod angle becomes an issue
If stuff is different on deck height and other small differences is the turbo kit and exhaust side gonna fit?
I hope not!
John why is it that it looks like your center pistons seem incorrect shouldnt the exhaust valves be together?
Valve releifs
The piston valves reliefs are the same
@@TurboJohnRacing hard to tell on the video thanks man
👍👍😎💪💯
What happened to the piston dome in #6 hole?
Wow, that’s an awfully narrow lobe separation for a turbo engine.
You are right!
Im no expert just a dumb country boy but i side with Holdener, boost just multiplys na so if a tite lsa makes more, then why not? Turbo's have more back pressure to so I don't think your just pushing it on thru. And maybe it's beneficial if you do.
There are plenty enough head studs though to hold the boost pressure.
Ford Man of War Block would be cooler
3x the money!!!🤷♂️🤷♂️
how much compression is that motor what cc is the head and how big is the Dome on the piston? John
It should be about 10.5 now, I think. -5.10cc done. 64ish chamber
@@TurboJohnRacing thank you buddy what size turbo is it your car rolls that's why I'm trying to build a car that's somewhat in that range
@@TurboJohnRacing I'm building a 436 small block Ford Dart Block callies's crank je Pistons 11:00 to 1 with 117 mm Turbo and it will be on methanol thank you for the infoI just didn't pick my piston compression yet trying to figure out the sweet spot for a turbo methanol motor either a flat top piston or a dome piston trying to figure that out thank you again your channel is awesome and I watch every time you're the man let's get it. turbo John.
What degree is your heads? Just curious i like to kinda compare to others. I think degree makes it on sbc but? I run 18 on mine.
23 deg
@@TurboJohnRacing ty for replying. I hope new engine is a beast!
23 degree profiler 210's
What's the max those sleeves can be bored?
You don't bore sleeves, you replace them. At least my engine machine shop won't. I believe they're too thin to over bore.
4.155 is max Brodix says. We are at 4.165. Danny and Richard have ran them at 4.165 no issues.
All that time and 1 fucked up piston! Unbelievable!
😂
It is not melting it, so flame travel is still working ok.
JJ won 100 grand with a motor built on his shop floor, stock heads and cast pistons with 1 peppered all to hell, I’m sure the dent in your piston will be ok.
Do you really think that was the motor that he built on the show? I have a hard time believing that or if was a bait and switch if it’s true it makes me want to return all my shit and build my next motor in the dirt, cool if he did though, can’t wait to see this thing with oil pressure, good luck with it.
That was not the same Engine, that was a High dollar big inch small block he likes to make people think he doesn't have money and doesn't use High dollar part's.
They do a lot of baiting and switching! They hustle hard!!
It is a high drama TV show, Justin left the high drama Discovery/Disney Channel land of make believe, and returned back to the reality of mean streets and dirty tracks.
Don't believe everything you see on TV and the internet, especially if there is a street racer saying it and not showing anything but the cute dimples. If they are not showing the warts, and farts, and freckles, but only the high dollar cash winnings, someone is lying to you.
The racers dream life, is still a struggle often.
But, who does not want to live the dream after tasting the successes?
It is the whole mission that makes the dream come true, even the costs.
Making a fine purse out of the sows ear, or others used parts, and making it work and win, makes it even better.
Beating the high dollar, only new parts crew, makes those wins taste better.
She's bling blinging that shine!
Nothing ever looks better than an unpainted all aluminum long block. Unless it is an Ed Pink Nitro Hemi of course. Which looks much the same, but runs much different...lol.
