- This is a unique Matchbox experience on RUclips. I believe that this is the first time that a Scalextric model race set has been modified to a Matchbox race set and uploaded to RUclips. It took much longer than I thought it would. A whole week of free time taken up on a video for you to enjoy. I hope that it was worth the effort.

Absolute genius. A tremendous effort but the result is stunning. An original Marty unique piece.
And a genuine KEVIN...? Did he cheat again?
Anyway... I'm thrilled once again. Definitely a thumbs up for it.👍🏼 Thanks for sharing and best regards from Cuxhaven, You, Julie the team behind the scenes and of course the most koalafied rascal on the racetrack, KEVIN 🐨

Was there cheating? Scissors were involved, and Kevin was there. He's been known to pull pranks like that. Draw your own Koalusions.

Macau was a Portuguese territory until 1999 when it reverted to Chinese ownership. So when these cars were made there they were still a Portuguese territory.
For a Brazilian, oriental people speaking portuguese with Portugal accents is a really strange sight...
@Chris Travers I did a wardrobe for someone here in Melbourne who had a copy of Hong Kong Treaty in their front hall and the story was that they had a relative who had been present at the signing of Treaty. I bet at the time of signing, the hand over date seemed a very long way into the future.
@@eugeniomarins2936 Macau's Portuguese wasn't so different from the Portugal's (apart for the accent) ruclips.net/video/Vr2f4uQC_d8/видео.html .
But less and less people speak portuguese at Macau's territory today
It's 2:30am, and I'm looking at Marty's nuts.
He has some big nuts.
Paul Kevin Koehler ROFLMAO😂😂😂😂
Anyone who races against a koala is a little nuts to begin with. Those lil bastards cheat like you wouldn't believe.

Marty, we do appreciate all of your videos, very much so, and for all the time you put into them. I just moved 60 miles south of Los Angeles, where I was living, and during the pandemic and the riots your vids brought a much needed respite. I'm sure there's a lot of people right now having a terrible time and your videos provide a very soothing and comforting escapism for the young and old. I'm 50. So thank you very much on behalf of all of us. Please keep up the good work.
It is fantastic posts like this one that inspire me to continue. To know that I am making a difference to other peoples lives and giving them something that provides entertainment and a distraction to take them to a safe and cosy place, even for a short time, makes it all worthwhile. Thank you, thank you, thank you! - Marty.
The badge on the back is Fiat, Abarth is a tuning company
Exactly. And to be more precise the model is a "131 mirafiori" turned into a racing car
@@frigster2008 esattamente!
upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/54/Fiat_131_Abarth_010.jpg
You can JUST make out the small round badge on the C Pillar, it is indeed the Abarth "Scorpion" badge
Think of Abarth as the Fiat equivalent of AMG for Mercedes products.
@@weedwacker1716 Or the #4 car with driver Markku Alén and navigator Ilkka Kivimäki.
Where I grew up, in the suburbs of Chicago, we call them slot cars. Genius of you to combine them with matchbox cars. I wanted to do this as a child, almost as cool to see it done by you. Awesome project sir
Saw your comment. I was Brookfield off the Aurora line.
The Group C cars had a little seat to class as a sports car.
I *wondered* if it might be something along those lines, kinda like legal cheating.😁 If they *all* did it, it seems kinda pointless, just a waste of little seats.😂 There should come a point when the organisers/rule-makers just give up on the "two seats" rule. There's *no way* that car is a real two-seater so, either scrap the rule or disqualify cars that can't seat two "fully grown adults".
@@2H80vids it was a bit stupid, but the presence of the dummy seat precluded various modifications to the internal structure; they could (and I think eventually did) dispense with the rule at the cost of a more elaborate set of proscriptions - so it was a place-holder for a seat for an occupant.
I'm a 49 year old man yet whenever I see Kevin I feel like a 5 year old kid at Disney world. Thanks for the laughs you two!
Fiat 131 supermirafiori
A legend of the Italian rally tradition
The plate should be Italian as well... from the province of Cagliari (Sardinia)
Abarth is a tuner for the fiat brand
The two seat of different dimensions should come from the endurance (Le Mans) rulebook: cars of some divisions shall be two seaters, even if there will be only one driver (in memory of the original racing cars... therefore often the engineers put a normal seat for the pilot and a “fake” one to save space but still be compliant with the rules... additionally they tend to slap on that second seat a lot of wiring and electronic boxes... ☺️
At least for what I remember on the topic...
Think your have it right. In the Netherlands the model was called 131 Mirafiori tc. Abarth, as a house tuner, had played a lot with the top model with a two liter engine and the appearance.
I always get the 131 mixed up with the 124...
Back in 1981 - 83, my boss had a 131 Mirafiori. It had a persistent problem. The fuel cap always leaked fuel even though it had been properly capped.
Fiat has been historically one of the less reliable cars in Europe 😁
@rustybuttpate eeeeeh, "for a lady" ... the things we do for them 😁😈
The registration on the Fiat is Italian
Province of Caligari (CA)
yes it is a Fiat 131 Rally car from 1976 to 1981 and usually driven by the Finn Markku Alen. Pity it was turned yellow, but it was in bad condition.
Looks great 👍 btw: The group c racer is a Sauber C6. Sauber worked later on the Sauber-Mercedes C9 and they brought back the “Silberpfeil” to Le Mans (with a speed of over 240mp/h) before they went to the Formula 1.
I think the base Fiat for the rally cars was known as the 131. It succeeded the long running 124, which also became a Lada. The name Mirafiori sticks in my head as also associated with that car, but that may be the factory it was made in.
The group C car looks a bit like a Porsche 956/962 except for the wing at the back. Look up the car sponsored by BASF and I'm sure you can find out what it actually was. Enjoyed this but shan't be bidding for the race track and cars on eBay.
Sell the original bodies on eBay too, some child has inevitably broken their car's body to bits.
Haven’t even watched yet, but I literally just got back into slot cars and have been craving more content to fuel my excitement!! I just did a custom on a 1:32 1975 Datsun 260Z scalextric! Can’t wait to see what you do this episode!
The race steward looked at the incident and concluded that as Kevin was still racing at the time of the loss of power it would have been impossible for him to have caused it. Kevin 2 - Marty 0. Great conversion and very impressive how you solved al the problems and put the hours to create something unique. Loved it!
Where was Kevin's pit crew?

Many famous NASCAR drivers have driven under #88 - www.nascar.com/gallery/through-the-years-drivers-of-the-no-88/#photo-19
Hi Marty, I'm surprised no one mentioned Dale Earnhardt Jr as the driver of the number 88 car in NASCAR. Other well known NASCAR drivers who've used the number 88 are Buddy Baker, Benny Parsons, Donnie Allison, Darrell Waltrip, Bobby Allison, Rusty Wallace and Dale Jarrett. Also Michael McDowell drives the No. 34 Ford for Front Row Motorsports in the NASCAR Cup Series. A very interesting modification of the Matchbox cars to fit the Scalextric car frames, well done. Cheers, Rich S.
When I was about 20 (A looong time ago) I had a very good friend - and one evening I went round to his house to smoke completely normal cigarettes, drink fruit squash, and listen to music with absolutely no psychedelic content. He opened one of the bedroom doors upstairs and showed me a huge , huge, multitrack Scalextric layout. "My mum and dad would never buy me a decent Scalextric set, and I always said that once I was working I would do it for myself, and now I have." Epic. Happy days, smoking extremely normal cigarettes, listening to Gong and Pink Floyd and racing Scalextric at 3.00 in the morning! Skin up Marty & Kevin - Great vid.
Great story.
Haven't listened to Gong in donkeys years
Sounds like a plan. 👍
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Yes indeed!
Digital Hippo That’ll be me, soooooon. Got 300 Scalex track parts and almost 100 cars awaiting to be raced. Once I get my garage ready I’ll build a track that I dreamt of as a kid. 😍
The number 88 is currently driven by NASCAR driver Alex Bowman, who drives for Charlotte, North Carolina-based Hendrick Motorsports. Before he drove it, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. drove that number for the same team. Dale, Jr. is the famous NASCAR driver you're talking about. The car still carries that number in that style. Keep up the good work!
Please can we see more of the little rascal Kevin the koala!
My favorite is #TeamMarty sorry #TeamKevin
In the beginning I thought, oh no, these models look so nice in original shape. But watching the video, I became more and more excited about this conversion. Great work once again.
Absolutely brilliant. Put life into matchbox car's. Only you could've thought of this.
Thanks John, I like to try out new ideas where possible to keep the channel interesting.
Bellísimo trabajo 👏👏😍 saludos desde Argentina Bs As
Hey Marty! Love the way you problem solve !! Awesome! Incredible patience, keep on making these great vids.
Very nice Marty - and I hate the word 'Scalextric' too. No wonder most pronounce it 'Scalectrix'...
You out did yourself on that makeover vid Marty!😀 Watch out for sneaky Kevin, he's really got some tricks up his sleeve 😝. Have a shot, you deserve it. I'm happy with that!!
Kevin the koala master of cheating! Well Marty nice work on the cars they looked like real race track cars that you would find at your local hobby shop, sorry that Kevin cheated you but you did created something new and interesting for the Diecast Community to see.
Marty, I have a Matchbox racetrack set. Not sure when it was made. It has a snap together track that makes an over- under course, and the cars run by a long spring that runs in the track. To run the cars, there's a plastic pin that tapes to the underside of the car and is captured by the spring in the track. Its a lot of fun to run. Don't know ow if you've seen this set where you are, but you might check it out.
As kids, in the 80s, we had a matchbox slot car set, which had a abarth 131, audi quattro, porsche 911 and a tr7. What a fantastic Christmas that was
Good afternoon Marty. I hope you are all well. Every episode is a special edition with lots of magic. Keep up the great work.
An outstanding job, Marty! And Kevin, that rascal..... 😎
Great Idea,i like the way you finished the windows on the Fiat,,,👍
#88 in NASCAR was driven by Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
I prefer the Fiat. I've always had a thing for those square, boxy, rally cars. I had planned on getting my hands on a 2-door Volvo 300 series, I think that was the boxy one, and doing it up as a crazy rally runner.
First time I have watched your videos. Awesome job. Really enjoyed it.
Very innovative, Marty! I'm a Group C fan, so...there's my choice. Great job on both! Great video!
Nice conversion marty just love the yellow fiat.👍
great idea marty
Mr. Marty! ABARTH ( according to my Friend who drove one for a while ) simply means replace the engine often! ;o) Thank you for the video, Sir.
This is one of your best in many ways....it's innovative, well-done, and fun....very fine job...I (too) am happy with that! Best wishes old mole (Shakespeare) and stay healthy.
I did this sort of thing years ago with Hot Wheels cars and AFX slot cars. I also made a 1/25th Hess Truck into a slot car for the guy who ran a Commercial Slot Car Business. This sort of stuff is fun to do.
What a great idea and execution! Connor is lucky to have you as a grandad! Also, thanks for the important info on Macau.
Brilliant, a great project. My mind goes wild, and I had flashbacks from my childhood. Marty you really make me happy, I enjoy looking that, and keep those scissors away from Kevin ☺
The group C racer is a Sauber SHS C6 Ford. You're welcome :) . Love the conversions and they worked!
I have a great recipe for koala stew, if you're interested!
*John Seal* - It would taste of eucalyptus (gum trees), as that's all that koalas eat in the wild.
I love the results. I like the yellow one. Kevin strikes again. He’s a pesky Koala.

Nicely done!
it’s FIAT on the back of that nice little car. 👍🏻
I like this creative idea, it worked out perfectly. Iike the Fiat most.
👏👏👏👏👏 Loving the effort, innovation and improvisation - even more the results! Top work (despite Kevin's nefarious ways...) 🏆
Great video again, Marty! And just to help you out with your unpronounceable 'Scalextrix' - it's actually pronounced Scale-ex-trick!!
Thanks for that!
A lot of work, but well worth the effort for a result this lovely. I started to drift to sleep watching this very late last night, so I paused to finish watching this morning. Anyway don't feel too bad about spending more than a week on this build, it took me two days just to watch it!
Really enjoyed this restoration/custom, Marty. To be honest those cars look almost factory as if Matchbox actually made a racing set. Wonder why they never did something like this? I also noticed that Kevin's car with the white paint and graphics looks similar to the MMM truck I built last year. If you had a trailer to hook on behind it could be a designated hauler for Kevin's car to and from the racetrack.
Glad to see you took your time and enjoying yourself discovering new stuff. So not worry about keeping your viewers waiting, if you are producing such high quality content!
I do really like fastback cars, so I like the white one... and Kevin cheated...
Nice. Something different!
Love ya
Wow well done
Go Marty go
What a cool conversion :) Respect to all the effort put into them. Btw the license plates on the fiat resemble period italian ones 😀 Greetings from Germany
What a fantastic idea!! I would have absolutely loved to do this as a kid!! Both car look great! Sorry can’t pick a favorite. Thoroughly enjoyed that video!
A wonderful way to spend 32 minutes. The final result was brilliant and worked amazingly well.
Amazing idea very well executed. Fantastic job!
Thank you very much!
What you really need is a Matchbox Motorway system for Matchbox and Matchbox sized cars. Or the Minic Motorway slotcar system at 1/76 scale.
My brother had a Matchbox Motorway when we were kids. You could quickly adapt any suitably sized toy car by just sticking a little tag on its underneath. Great fun.
My grandson broke one of my very expensive model cars. Well he was so upset. I told him Buddy I let you play with it I take the responablity.Than I told him It makes me happy to see someone enjoy the cars.He broke the bottom of the car. I use a blow touch and melted the bottom seam. It worked like a charm. The car is no longer worth anythin...But it is pricless to me. I was able to show my Grandson how to fix something. No amount of money can buy that kind of love.
Baby seat : the prototype cars had to have 2 seats according to the rules, but never used. The vents on the front are to expel air coming from under (air creating by the rotating tyres) so not to lift the bonnet, also used to cool the front discs brakes.
Damn nice work. Subbed.👍👍
Take care - I believe Kevin is one of those dropbears
Along with tree snakes?
Shhh! Don't give away Kevin's secret sordid past, he still gets gig work scaring tourists. Work is a bit quiet for the moment, got anything going for a Kevin?
Utterly fantastic, very creative and original idea.
Brilliant makeover 100% genius😁
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome vid as always, loved it, and you should have known Kevin would have a trick up his sleeve! 🤪👍
Hi marty, they look very awesome. And i’m not only saying that because it took so much effort, but also because : i’m happy with that

Hi marty, the badge sais : fiat. And i believe you said you weren’t formiliar with abarth. Well, it’s a brand that builds preformance fiats. And in the earlier days it used to build autobianchi and possibly other brandz
Thanks Bo for the info. The badge on the back was quite illegible and looked like nothing really because of the scale.

No worries Chris, great to have you back!
Dale Earnhardt Jr. is #88. A very good driver.
I do like a well-sorted Mirafiori, and sadly, on the real ones, the electrics used to let them down too! :-O
Good video Marty! :-)
#88 belongs to Dale Earnhardt Jr.
I think you should shave Kevin 😂 great vid Marty really enjoyed it very ingenious and tedious at the same time .
But all worth it with such a fantastic outcome they worked really well 👍
Glad you enjoyed it Jeremy.
You really weren't convinced about that set-up in the spray-booth at the end were you? For some strange reason, a mirror always seems to make things more confusing.😂
Certainly something a wee bit different Marty; never seen it done before. The cars put up a bit of a fight but the end result was worth the effort. 👌
Did you ever try the Matchbox Motorway? I had a set as a kid. Good enough system and it lasted pretty well too. My only real problem was the system that connected the cars to the track. It consisted of a kinda sticky label with a hole in it, through which you pushed a tiny plastic pin. The pins fitted into spiral, spring-like things in a groove in the road. The stickers didn't last long and the only shop which sold them was always out of stock. grrr !!
You should have given the bear an un-modified Matchbox; he could have *pushed it* round.😁
Cheers for now,
Dougie.
Dougie that is one interesting post, I appreciate you for taking the time to comment. All the best, Marty.

hi marty. the air intake on the top of the group C racer is a NACA duct. loving the conversions. keep it up!
Thanks for the info!
That was neat! I can see this was not an easy conversion to do but it worked and the cars look great. I like the yellow one too and the windshield turned out beautifully. The blue really adds to the model. Thanks for sharing this.

@@MartysMatchboxMakeovers Wow! Haven't seen that since I was a kid, global warming now brings rain instead. I'll send you a bottle of wet weather and maybe you could restore it back to snow for me 😁 stay safe Marty 😁
That blue-over-silver that you used on the windscreen turned out great. You'll have to use that technique on another custom in the future.
Great idea Greg, I might just try it out one day.
now that was a lot of work! :D and they even run, too! though it seems the fiat is a bit heavier than the other one (I suspect it's a Porsche 962C). nice paintjob, too. the fiat's windscreens look like metal-plated, funky effect. :)
the fiat should have a little "131 Supermirafiori" emblem in the right of the back. as others have stated, the licenses are italian, and should be black with white numbers, and the initial letter/s being red. the emblems on the c column are possibly "Quadrifoglio Oro" (golden clover) emblems, depicting the top line of interior luxury.
The Group C racer is a Sauber SHS C6 Ford

Well done on that conversion Marty. I noticed why you're struggling with the word 'Scalextric'...look at the box again, you ain't reading it, you are adding 'ks' on the end, it isn't 'Scalextricks' man. Practice it, you'll soon get it right.
