Years ago my sister in law made a Friendship Cake. The icing was similar to German Chocolate Cake. She poked holes in the top of the cake so the icing would soak down into it. She also doubled the icing recipe. It was a fabulous cake. She gave me the starter for it. I kept the starter going for a long time. I no longer know where the recipe is. I would love to get it again. It was one of the best cake I've ever eaten. My dear sister in law died several years ago.

You mentioned it smelled yeasty and a little like beer. The whole process of fermentation is fascinating. How many things (besides beer!) are made with fermentation? A LOT! (Cheese, pickles, olives, sauerkraut, etc). And, the history of fermentation is so interesting. Before refrigeration this was one way that food was preserved. So, learning about this is a great study.

My mom's family lived close to the Basque community in Nampa, Idaho. My grandmother took care of many of them when they were ill. Lots of recipes, but don't have them anymore.

hello from the rainy vibrant ozarks !! i been experimenting during all these storms and waiting for the lakes to fill back up even though the crappie are biting my pretend crawfish on fine tuning my tapicol or pearls from hoosier hill farms in indiana. using the instapot, saute 2 cups of water till begins to boil, add c of cane sugar and pinch of salt add two thirts cup of pear beads or tapioca and stir till it comes to a boil again, then close lid and set on hi psi for 5min. and let it release psi naturally. while pearls are cooking get a box of jello vanilla instant pudding & filing 5.1oz. for 1?2 servings ready to mix pearls after draining water off using the jello directions you add pearls into pudding mix while stirring until well blended together. its ready to eat or chill if you like it cold. it takes me 15min from start to finish for yummy sweet dessert. no standing over hot pot stirring for 30min. tight lines and grace be with you both!!!!
My niece's teacher sent some home with her last month and my sister says she has me a starter in her freezer. Hopefully I can get it over the weekend. I'm excited to try this!!

Love your video. I made my sour dough starter out of buttermilk and flour and it was ready in 3 days. Also it is a no feed no discard. So yummy.
Good morning Browns. My wife told me a story about her daddy and the incident on her mother babysitting the neighbor's friendship cake. I am not really sure on the name of it. But you add a different fruit juice to the mixture everyday and it will ferment for a month. Anyhow, one summer her mother's friend who was also lived next door to her parents house. They were on their way for a short vacation. Mrs. McDaniels asked my mom to babysit her cake mix, that was in a large glass. Mom agreed to it and was given all the ingredients and instructions on feeding it. Well that was Monday. So far so good. On Saturday her father did a bit too much celebrating on a fishing trip. Come to say he was quite drunk when he come home that evening. Mom had alot of choice words for him and there was a argument and her mother was really upset with him. Well he passed out on the sofa. On Sunday morning real early. My wife who was 13 years old at the time. Heard him in the kitchen. He had a bad hangover. All of a sudden she heard her father make the grosses sound that made her check on him. There he was standing at the sink holding the empty glass that held the fermented concoction of that cake. The other hand holding his stomach as he leaned over the sink. She said realizing what he did her father's face was so green and she couldn't help herself she busted out in laughter! She said he said in a whisper. "I been poison"! Her mom come in at that time because she heard Laurie's laughter. She saw the empty glass still in her husband's hand. She really yelled at him for drinking Mrs. McDaniels fermented juice. " What am I going to tell her!"She barked at him." Then she saw his face by that time it was white as a sheet; and laughed so hard she cried. Then daddy said still in a whisper " It smelled so good that I thought it help my hangover!" My wife will still laugh out loud when she talks about it and of course cry. He stopped drinking after that. Was sober for 35yrs till the day he passed over. 😁😂
